To be heartbroken at yet ANOTHER fave product being discontinued?

InMemoryOfSleep · 05/03/2017 09:14

I have just discovered Thorntons have discontinued their strawberry fondant chocolate pigs, and I am quite frankly devastated. These have been my fave little treat since I was about 12, and now they are no more!

It's the latest in a long line of favourite products being discontinued - does anyone else get unreasonably irritated by this?! I'll start a list, feel free to add to it...

  • Thorntons strawberry fondant pigs (sob)
  • Benefit 'So Hooked on Carmella' perfume
  • Lush Aqua Mirabilis (my thighs will never be the same again)

Lord Toffingham ice cream lollies.

PageStillNotFound404 · 06/03/2017 18:21

YY to Texans, Pacer mints, Secrets, ready salted Chipsticks, Mignon Morceaux and cheesy NikNaks.

Asda used to do a frozen veggie balti for one with a little round naan bread. When I lived on my own I used to HSBC about two a week, they were gorgeous and packed full of big chunks of red and green pepper.

My particular L'Oreal oil-free foundation. They discontinued it in the U.K. years ago, then a few years ago I stumbled across a market stall in France selling it and bought every bottle they had in my shade. I'm onto the last one now and being on the verge of running out is one of the reasons I stopped wearing makeup for work and keep it for special occasions only.

Jo Malone Vintage Gardenia. I have about 5ml left

You used to be able to get fizzy Liptonice in cans, much nicer than the flat bottled stuff. And lemon & lime Tango, back in the days when the can design was just a photo of the fruit slices. Most refreshing drink ever.

And cheese & onion Ringos used to be different and much nicer - the texture was denser and they were covered in the flavour powder.

So many lovely lost things...sigh.

I used to have about two a week. I don't even bank with HSBC so who knows where that came from!

Leanin15yearsmaybe · 06/03/2017 18:25

Virgin vie foundation that was a cream to matte thing that looked like normal round pressed powder. Their ivory was my perfect shade and coverage. Not found anything else that matches. Also a weird pot of dried cheesy mash potato that Asda sold like pot noodles. They sound disgusting but were lush!

Fat frogs

Suewoo · 06/03/2017 18:31

Also - as we're on to sweets now - those wonderful Toffee Crunch. Triangle/pyramid shaped suckable crunchy yet creamy toffee sold loose from those big jars in every corner shop. I ask in every proper sweet shop (the nostalgia ones at extortionate prices) and they say that so many people ask for them, they could be the No1 bestseller. Well bring them back someone!! Can't remember who made them Callard & Bowser? Sharps? Someone will know!

buddles · 06/03/2017 18:34

glitterglitters you can still get funny feet ice cream, at least you could last summer, in my local shop

glitterglitters · 06/03/2017 18:36

They aren't the same though buddles. They're not chocolate toes and they taste all natural. Not the yummy E numbers of our yoof Grin

LightastheBreeze · 06/03/2017 18:41

Cherry Carte d'Or ice cream, Double cream King Cone ice creams at the cinema, Buchee buchete single chocolate.

Wickedstepmum67 · 06/03/2017 18:42

Oh yes, OP! I feel the pain of a much-loved and discontinued product (Lush, I mean YOU, stop doing it immediately). Other than the aforementioned bath bomb merchants, there is the original Fendi perfume which is no more, a blummin' brilliant Darphin eye mask that was a hangover cure in a tube, and the increasingly hard to get Corn Silk face powder. Most of my loved and lost tend to be make up or perfume-related, it's true!

MrJones1977 · 06/03/2017 18:43

As an daytime SAHD I live on borderline junk. Iceland did a nice range of American style meals, particularly Chilli Philly Cheese bake. And then one day it was gone, no warning no nothing. Quite upsetting

Hugepeppapigfan · 06/03/2017 18:48

I loved the little orange jelly fish Thornton used to have in the kids section. :-(

deedeegee · 06/03/2017 18:50

Cadbury's tiffin bars- best thing ever

LizzyELane · 06/03/2017 18:52

Spangles sweets, shaped like Tunes throat sweets but in lots of different lovely flavours. Blobs sweets, round strawberry boiled sweets with a sugary vanilla centre. And an Angel Delight type pudding but in tangy yogurt flavours. NOBODY remembers these and I can't remember the name but my mum bought them a lot as we loved it. Vesta dried curries. Sorry all very 80s!!

Loopyaboutmy2boys · 06/03/2017 18:53

My latest annoyance is that I can no longer get Tesco apple and strawberry squash. They still make it but for no known reason the store that delivers to me is no longer supplied with it. Gutted. Just don't understand why not.

In the past, daily defended shampoo, took ages to find another type i liked.

Barbara Daly all in one powder foundation, just vanished from a tescos a few years back and the replacement is not available in stores and I've heard it's not the same quality or shades but never tried it as was always out of stock online when I looked.

Fuse bars, I miss those!

Bags of crisps that aren't full of air, miss those too!

Teacupinastorm · 06/03/2017 18:54

@proseccoandpizza Not sure if this has already been mentioned but Benefit still sell Coralista! I love it, in fact I was in a Benefit store the other day buying something else and accidentally went on a rant to the lovely sales girl about how they better not ever discontinue it because I will never find anything the same!

LizzyELane · 06/03/2017 18:56

Oh and 'sweet peanut' sweets with REAL peanuts in. Kola kubes that were bigger with more 'jam' inside. Football Crazy bacon corn puff crisps that cost about 3p. Saturday mornings with my Dad at the sweet shop - bliss! Showing my age now!

kalinkafoxtrot45 · 06/03/2017 18:57

Vesta chicken curry. Weekend chocolates. Cherish toothpaste. Aqua Manda. Pink Panther candy. Outer Spacers. :(

Oliversmumsarmy · 06/03/2017 18:57

Schwarzkopf used to do a 6 week hair dye that I always used. It was the only hair dye I wasn't allergic to. I spent many years trying to find a hair dye I am not allergic to and now have given up. My hair is a complete mess of grey blonde and brown.. I think these companies think you will buy the more expensive product but in the end you just give up and don't bother any more

elfies · 06/03/2017 18:59

Thorntons toffee cake

spankhurst · 06/03/2017 19:03

20 years ago Boots No 7 did a product called Instant Radiance. I bought some and got compliments galore. Bought 2nd bottle. Formula totally changed. Did nothing. I'm still sad about it.

glitterglitters · 06/03/2017 19:04

Wickedsteomum67 I know that fendi perfume. Very 80s bottle and was as classic (but better) than Chanel no 5. My mums signature scent and I've got her last bottle stashed away in the dark, praying it never ever goes off 😣

greeneyedlulu · 06/03/2017 19:05

Not a food related one but jeggings, every time I find a comfy pair, I stock up but now I need new one and I can't find them again!! Grrrr

SittingWithMyFeetUP12 · 06/03/2017 19:05

Greggs big square whoopers (huge sandwiches in large brown bread buns, filled with a filling of choice and masses of salad.....it was big enough to feed you for the whole day ) :-D

SittingWithMyFeetUP12 · 06/03/2017 19:06

Sorry white/or brown large bread buns...and square shaped not the triangular smaller replacements..!
