To be heartbroken at yet ANOTHER fave product being discontinued?

I have just discovered Thorntons have discontinued their strawberry fondant chocolate pigs, and I am quite frankly devastated. These have been my fave little treat since I was about 12, and now they are no more!

It's the latest in a long line of favourite products being discontinued - does anyone else get unreasonably irritated by this?! I'll start a list, feel free to add to it...

  • Thorntons strawberry fondant pigs (sob)
  • Benefit 'So Hooked on Carmella' perfume
  • Lush Aqua Mirabilis (my thighs will never be the same again)

Ghost cherish, my fav perfume of all time, gutted

InMemoryOfSleep · 05/03/2017 20:41

@BellMcEnd yes! I was just reading that thread in Classics the other day - he couldn't find Mignon Morceaux so had to go with Pom Bears instead Grin

Things that I miss are:
Revlon colorburst lipsticks, when I'd found out they were discontinued I went around eBay buying them up, lovely formula, they feel so light!
Revlon mauve it over matte lipstick, one of the few nude shades I've ever really liked.
Various Impulse, Charlie and So...? body sprays over the years, and the two by Tesco they did in the mid noughties, there was a pink one (I think cherry kiss?) and a blue one, the blue one I loved! I have very found memories of 15 year old me sitting on my bedroom floor, listening to Evanescence, writing, eating some weird nut, raisin and chocolate mix and I can just about remember the scent of this body spray. I've tried to find similar for years, but no luck, and I can't even remember what it was called! Sad
Sainsbury's prawn flavour noodles and sweet and sour Supernoodles, how dare they? I miss them so much!
Wall's did two different versions of this five flavour ice cream, one was fruit and one was chocolate, they were so good and I miss them!
I'm glad someone else posted about banana bubbles, I remember those! I think we had them once. I also miss Lucky Charms as they used to be, the American ones just aren't the same.
Also Nestle used to do this lovely chocolate, that was milk chocolate with cocoa beans in it, that was divine! In that vein Hotel Chocolat supermilk with orange and 50% cocoa milk chocolate with orange, G&B's milk chocolate orange is lovely, but not as lovely as the Hotel Chocolat ones were.

For me it's mignons morceaux, bitza pizza, m&s delta's, gino ginelli fudge ice cream, Gucci rush 2 perfume and secret bars.
I actually worked for nestle for a while and asked about secret bars (and may have pointed them in the direction of a Facebook group). I was told that they weren't financially viable. The moulds and everything were still in the store rooms but it cost too much as they were so faffy to make. Sad

twoastars · 05/03/2017 20:50

PG with a hint of Earl Grey. ''Twas perfect Brew

InNeedOfABrew · 05/03/2017 20:52

Sapphire, the nestle chocolate you're on about is probably Double Cream. Amazing stuff. Marketing campaign completely failed as everyone remembered the advert but not the product. (Advert was a couple of bank robbers who couldn't spend their marked notes but she gave in and went to the shop to buy a double cream and they got arrested, all looked a bit Mexican)

kelper · 05/03/2017 20:53

Oh, I just remembered, Envy by Gucci. Not Envy Me, just Envy. It reminds me so much of being on our boat, just chilling, I used to buy it from the department store in the town we kept our boat in, and now they don't make it any more, and Envy Me just doesnt smell the same :(

Laska5772 · 05/03/2017 20:54

M&S salmon and cucumber cottage cheese .. ( i twas sooo good ...I ate that for lunch in the office at least twice a week in the 1980s).

But the best product they discontinued was Wasp-eeze..
I have never found another product so good for insect bites and stings ..
( esp mossie bites and nettle stings) .

Oinkypig · 05/03/2017 20:56

Wait what?! The pigs are gone? Nooooo.

I passed a thorntons the other day and thought about popping in to get one a few but didn't have time. Are shops selling the last of their stock or have they literally all gone now? sobs

Destinysdaughter · 05/03/2017 21:01

Boots No7 nude lipstick called Divine.Wore it for years and bastards discontinnued it a few years ago.Never found one as nice since!

Everytimeref · 05/03/2017 21:01

Milky way bars changed their centre when my boys were young (approx 25 yrs ago) never been the same since!

SapphireSeptember · 05/03/2017 21:02

InNeedOfABrew, close, it was launched at the same time! I can't remember what it was called. I wish I could have some right now, best chocolate ever! It came in big slabs that you could just break random bits off. The double cream was lovely, but this edged it.

InNeedOfABrew · 05/03/2017 21:05

Sapphire, was it the heaven range? That was pretty good too. I did go to a tasting panel for a cocktail truffle selection they were going to do and it was amazing but they never did it because they discontinued the range.

GetOrfMyBin · 05/03/2017 21:06

I miss Wispa Mints. They were lush. I also mourn for creme eggs...I know they're still about but they're just fake imposters now. Also Cadburys Twisted. Anything to do with Cadburys to be honest, it all tastes like sick nowadays Envy

workshyfop · 05/03/2017 21:06

Guerlain Aqua Allegoria Bouquet numero 2. My most perfect scent.

Applebite · 05/03/2017 21:06

Does anyone remember some puddings by birds that they made in the 80's where you added boiling water and then put on the crunchy topping?? the advert said "just whistle", i.e. like a kettle.

The lemon crunch one looked bloody amazing and I never did get to try it. Think there was a chocolate one too. Can anyone tell me what I missed out on?!

MaximaDeWit · 05/03/2017 21:07

Jo Malone's Vanilla & Anise 😭😭😭

Applebite · 05/03/2017 21:09

Ah just seen robster's post. There was a banana one too? Were they any good?

My mother flatly refused to buy them, however much I begged!

MrsCharlieD · 05/03/2017 21:11

Knorr sizzle and stir tikka masala sauce. It was simply amazing. I was devastated when they discontinued it.
Secret bars too were awesome. Sara Lee lemon meringue pie and tgi Fridays used to do this meal that was chicken in a spicy sauce and it came with spicy rice and chips. Wish I could remember the name of it!

I also miss sunsilk shampoo and conditioners.

user1472308229 · 05/03/2017 21:18

Oh my gosh pyramints I miss them so bad.I used to have a perfume called lulu blue but can't find it anywhere anymore 😢

desperatelyseekingcaffeine · 05/03/2017 21:19

Yes to Sara lee chocolate gateau, romantica ice cream cake, spiras, ready salted chipsticks.

Also marks did a gorgeous tuna pasta ready meal with half tomato sauce and half bechamel. Had such a craving for it last pregnancy (and still do now)

Anyone remember the short-lived orange dairy milk and orange wispas? And ben and Jerry's Bohemian Raspberry - raspberry ripple ice cream with choc brownie chunks - best ice cream ever.
