Woman threw water at me

I was cycling and came to some trafficlights. A woman was looking at her phone so I banged on her window and shouted get off your phone. She tried to throw water at me and drove off, would police be interested?

For some reason, I can only imagine the OP, dressed from head to toe in lycra.

No idea why that bothers me more than anything Confused

Sparklingbrook · 04/03/2017 23:13

Always do Sweets.

In the absence of any fresh evidence/clarification from the OP I think I'm done with this particular 'drama' now.

Sweets101 · 04/03/2017 23:14

As my phone has been so anti-squirt I feel the need to put it out there, normalise it if you will.
I have no problem with moist, moist is a poor maligned word.
Moist and squirt are deserving words user embrace it. A moist squirt sounds refreshing. Spread the word.

MadMags · 04/03/2017 23:15

Don't believe this for a second but if it was my car, I'd be throwing punches not water! Grin

Megatherium · 04/03/2017 23:15

Just looking at the phone isn't an offence - it's only an offence if she's holding and interacting with it. If, for instance, she was looking at map directions she was committing no offence at all.

How sure are you that it was a phone? I once had a policeman try to tell me off for using my phone in the car and I couldn't understand what he was talking about as my phone wasn't even within reach. Then I realised that what he had seen was me reaching out to my satnav when stationary at a traffic light and turning it off.

Sweets101 · 04/03/2017 23:17

Head to toe lycra is too much info 80% of the time worra
Sad but true.

Userone1 · 04/03/2017 23:23

Sole I thought that video was found to have been orchestrated?

Sweet spread, moist, squirt, ooer missus its turning into a carry on sketch!

Sweets101 · 04/03/2017 23:25

Everyone loves a carry on sketch let's be honest.
Or Nigella

ArriettyClock1 · 04/03/2017 23:30

Really not your business to dictate the law - it's just antagonistic, as demonstrated.

Roll your eyes, tut, whatever - you don't have the remit to do anything more.

Ellapaella · 04/03/2017 23:37

Dear god woman get a grip! You are in a huff because she made you look stupid by spraying some water on your face... you bashed on her window and shouted at her what did you think would happen? Yes she is a knob for getting her phone out at traffic lights but seriously it's not your place to tell her off. Would you have done the same if it was a 6ft man? People do stupid things every minute of every day, if you go on a personal crusade to tell them all off and report to the police you'll be a very busy person.
If I started an argument and shouted at every cyclist who ever cut me up at traffic lights or nearly knocked me over by cycling on the pavement instead of the road then I'd be a millionaire.

flumpsnlumpsnstuff · 04/03/2017 23:42

6 months ago I was driving to work and approached a roundabout a cyclist drew level with my drivers door before realising he was in the wrong lane for the narrow first exit , I was already pulling away. I saw him try to get in front of me as I was already moving, and carried on off the 1exit ( I didn't know he was intending to enter my lane) I stopped in a line of traffic and there was a knock on my window, I lowered it and started to say" sorry but there was no way I could know what you were doing" I managed two words before he punched me in the face and rode off . He split my lip and bruised my face. So no you do not have the right to bang on drivers windows and yes they can act in a defensive manner as some cyclists are arseholes !

melj1213 · 04/03/2017 23:43

YABU - if you went hammering on my window at traffic lights I'd probably jump out of my skin and be really shaken up as I wouldn't be expecting it, and I'd be really angry at you for giving me such a fright which would make me a far more dangerous driver than I am purely by looking at my phone while stationary.

The OP says she was looking at her phone, not using it or calling, just looking at it. It could have been that the phone had been ringing/multiple texts had come in while she was driving and she didn't want to answer as it would have been not only illegal but dangerous ... so when she got to the lights and was totally stationary she picked up the phone, which is still illegal but not actually dangerous, to see who was calling to decide whether it was something that could wait until she got to her destination or something that would need her to find somewhere to park up and respond ASAP.

elektrawoman · 05/03/2017 00:00

I use the satnav on the phone in my car. Now I am paranoid someone will think I am looking at a text or something.
I would feel quite stressed if someone banged on my car window. Near me there is one particular set of lights where people knock on your window and ask for money, it always makes me feel anxious.

CrossCountryRunner · 05/03/2017 00:15

OP

I do hope you bang on the window louder next time.

I love shouting at motorists who are on their phone whilst driving or stationary in traffic.

I always swear. Particularly so if they have kids in the back.

C8H10N4O2 · 05/03/2017 00:23

Out of interest how do you it was the phone services she was using and not the GPS? You say 'looking at her phone' but my GPS is on my phone and stopped at a red light with the handbrake on I might well look ahead at the next mile or so on the route in a strange area or reset the direction in response to a traffic warning.

For someone outside the car it would look the same although for investigative purposes its very easy to prove.

JonesyAndTheSalad · 05/03/2017 00:33

It seems a tad agressive to bang on someone's window OP. But saying that, people who use their phones in their cars whilst driving PISS ME OFF. So I might have gently tapped rather than banged.

But yes, if you got her reg, then report her. Silly cow she is.

Iwannabelikecommonpeople · 05/03/2017 00:41

Well done you for having the guts ! Twats on the roads on phones. Reckon if you'd got their number the police wouldn't ignore it ! Maybe if more people are willing to point out twattish behaviour on our roads we might stand a chance ! Grrrr

TabithaBethia · 05/03/2017 00:49

YABU OP you are ridiculous.

She may easily have been checking her map on her phone? Who put you in charge?

CherryChasingDotMuncher · 05/03/2017 01:29

It always been the case that engine has to be off and car stationery when using your phone!

However YABVU to stick your beak in and bang on her window. That's just being smug and superior. I have checked my phone at lights when there's been an emergency involving my kids before and I'd do exactly the same to you! You can't provoke people like that and get upset when they don't like it

CherryChasingDotMuncher · 05/03/2017 01:38

flumps Shock that's awful I'm so sorry that happened to you! Did they catch who it was?

CherryChasingDotMuncher · 05/03/2017 01:40

CrossCountry assuming you're not joking, you enjoy intimidating people and swearing in front of children? Can't think why people dislike cyclists 🙄

Zafodbeeblbrox10 · 05/03/2017 01:46

So you report a misdemeanour to the police, which you can't prove other than witness statement! Your banging on the window could be seen as causing stress, alarm, and harassment in today's terms.

CrossCountryRunner · 05/03/2017 01:58

CrossCountry assuming you're not joking, you enjoy intimidating people and swearing in front of children? Can't think why people dislike cyclists 🙄

Yes. No problems swearing in front of children. Fuck the little cunts. Mummy went through a red light Mummy gets abuse. Not intimidating anyone. The cunt neatly ploughed me down as she went through a red light. Fuck the cunt and her kids.

@CherryChasingDotMuncher

Can't think why people dislike cyclists

They are a single person and not 'cyclists'. A black woman banged me with her trolley in a supermarket and rolled her eyes. Is that reason to dislike all black people?

@CrossCountryRunner

Not intimidation but, in your own words "abuse". I'm a cyclist and don't have a problem with the OP banging on the window. If you were looking to abuse me I'd get out of my car and you may well get mor than you bargained for.

mortificado

You would have run someone over for banging on your window? I wonder if you're as brave in real life or when not in your car. It's amazing how being in a car or being anonymous gives people a real inflated sense of bravado. They usually seem to be the ones who are lack this when face to face .
