Reverse threads

NancyCarolinesTorch · 03/03/2017 00:13

I keep seeing threads with cries of 'reverse!' All over the shop (including one of mine under a NC!).

However, I have never actually SEEN a reverse thread. Many a spoof, yes, but never a reverse. Ever. In approximately 7 years of dipping in ans out of MN.

Is it a myth or are they a thing?

I've seen one or two but very obviously written that way. I don't see the point. Is it just for ego?

Even if I think something is dodgy I try to give benefit of the doubt

ItShouldHaveBeenJingleJess · 03/03/2017 00:18

I saw one allegedly by a married man who was friendly with a younger woman and his wife wasn't happy about it. Halfway through the thread, she/he admitted to being the wife. Except that as it went on, people started wondering whether it was some sort of double reverse! It was all a bit suspect, and unsurprisingly, got pulled. Quite entertaining, though...

NancyCarolinesTorch · 03/03/2017 00:19

See, I never think anything is dodgy till other people point it out. I'm very naive and gullible trusting.

What is a 'reverse' thread? And why do people make them? (Sorry, only been here a few weeks.)

WorraLiberty · 03/03/2017 00:23

There seemed to be a pretty big spate of reverse threads last year.

Really fucking annoying and got to the point where I personally thought HQ should have suspended/banned those who insisted on misleading genuinely helpful posters.

Thankfully it seemed to be a 'trend' that died down and they're fairly rare now.

ArmySal · 03/03/2017 00:24

Haven't seen one for ages now, thankfully. They never go well.

littlefrog3 · 03/03/2017 00:26

What is it though?

ItShouldHaveBeenJingleJess · 03/03/2017 00:29

Like if I had a problem with someone, I'd write it from their perspective (pretending to be them) rather than mine. Which makes no sense! At least I think that's what it is.

Good explanation here littlefrog

ArmySal · 03/03/2017 00:32

Say you have an argument with a neighbour who has done something 'wrong'.
You post as the neighbour, hoping everyone will say "You're an arsehole!"
Then you say "Ta-da, I'm really the wronged one! I knew I was right!"

A little like that Grin

KickAssAngel · 03/03/2017 00:35

I'm so tempted to do a reverse troll parking thread right now.

littlefrog3 · 03/03/2017 00:46

Oh I see now. Thanks everyone. Smile That is a weird thing to do!

ijustwannadance · 03/03/2017 00:46

There was a really odd one last year where the girl was in love with shagging her friends brother who's girlfriend had just had a baby. Everyone told her she was a dick and he wasn't going to leave the gf etc.

She then did a thread as though she was the boyfriend in love with both women and another as though she was the new mum suspecting partner of cheating.

Very weird but same exact posting style.

NancyCarolinesTorch · 03/03/2017 00:48

How have I missed all of these! They sound hugely entertaining interesting.

MiddleClassProblem · 03/03/2017 01:04

I love that that thread goes on about being a dead thread in the end 😂

Good, clear examples though

justilou · 03/03/2017 01:44

Irritating as hell

pollypeanuts · 03/03/2017 01:53

I remember that ijustwannadance, I found it quite entertaining Blush

Tootsiepops · 03/03/2017 02:17

Been on mn a few years now and for all the claims of a reverse, I've only ever actually seen one.

Fighterofthenightman · 03/03/2017 04:59

I've seen loads. They're against talk guidelines so get deleted which maybe explains why some people haven't seen them.

Trifleorbust · 03/03/2017 05:07

I've seen some! I love them. Usually the poster is VVU.

littlefrog3 · 03/03/2017 11:15

What is VVU trifle???

MiddleClassProblem · 03/03/2017 12:00

Very, very unreasonable

RhiWrites · 03/03/2017 12:21

I've seen a fair few.

One from last year was the sister who complained about only receiving a hamper when she bought thoughtful gifts for her sister, that was a reverse and it was the hamper giver who had posted.

Don't revive the zombie.

AllDaBoats · 03/03/2017 23:45

I love reverse threads :-)

any more like to share?

I remember one about a sahm expecting her husband who works 60+ hours and commutes 2+ hours a day etc to do a fuck load of house work and cook when he got in.

It was him posting? Or it turned out to be a double reverse or something!

littlefrog3 · 04/03/2017 00:02

But rhiwrites, how did you KNOW the hamper thread was a reverse???

How can people tell?
