Essentially, "Ambassadors are gossipy. I don't recall what he said"

AcrossthePond55 · 02/03/2017 21:17

Blanket recusal from this and any other investigations that may be conducted related to the Trump campaign.

Not a resignation. But it's another brick in the wall. Flynn resigned. Sessions recused. Hopefully the next step will be the appointment of an impartial special prosecutor outside of the jurisdiction of the DoJ.

cozietoesie · 02/03/2017 21:18

I expect a 45 tweet almost immediately, talking, tearfully, about a 'good man' who was 'forced to go' and went 'thinking only of the American people'. I suppose he might call him a 'saintly man' but that would surely be OTT?

CussingQuim · 02/03/2017 21:18

Financial Times

The FT investigated Donald Trump's ties to Russia and found a mix of bling, business and bluster spanning 30 years

Hmmm, I don't know Cozie, I really think someone has grabbed Trump's phone. If there is a tweet it'll be a quote from today's speech.

...

Did Sessions just say "most people don't know the ethics rules"?

I'll stand corrected then, Cussing. Smile

My god, that rambling incoherent man that cannot answer a direct question is head of the Dept of Justice? I despair.

AcrossthePond55 · 02/03/2017 21:24

I think there will be a tweet cosie and quim, but I think it'll be a vague reference to 'fake news' and 'bad hombres' not wanting to MAGA or similar bullshit.

Not sure why you're surprised. He fits well within this administration.

Recusing himself only from campaign-related matters means he's not recusing from any (potential) investigation into Flynn lying to FBI, yes?

AcrossthePond55 · 02/03/2017 21:27

Ginger, I think he sounded like he was trying very hard to 'dance around' the truth whilst not telling porkies that will come back to bite him in the ass. That combination can often sound rambling and incoherent as they veer towards the truth then realizing it would be a bad thing and zooming away. It's all about 'plausible deniability', and right now Trump and his entire administration is focussed on hiding their dealings with Russia and, failing that, to maintain that plausible deniability that just may keep them out of prison.

GingerIvy · 02/03/2017 21:27

He's still probably busy berating Angry Spice for his fucked up tweet earlier. Then there's be a session of physical wrestling while he tries to get his phone back from a staffer. And THEN he'll tweet. Grin

So, the former acting attorney general, Dana Boente, now will be responsible for decisions regarding campaign-related investigations.

Note: Boente was not in the line of succession in DOJ until Trump put him there, first as acting AG on 1/30, then in a 2/9 executive order.

Not Russia, but Yemen:

"Eric Pelofsky, a senior official under President Barack Obama, questioned Mr. Trump and his aides’ approving the raid over dinner, rather than through the more deliberative process used in previous Democratic and Republican administrations.

“In the Obama administration, the N.S.C. process considering this operation would likely have discussed contingencies and circumstances that could damage our broader counterterrorism cooperation with the Yemeni government,” Mr. Pelofsky, who was the National Security Council’s senior director for North Africa and Yemen until mid-January, said Wednesday."

<a class="break-all" href="https://mobile.nytimes.com/2017/03/01/world/middleeast/yemen-intelligence-raid.html?smid=tw-share&_r=0&referer=t.co/o6Z9lMOAtV" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">mobile.nytimes.com/2017/03/01/world/middleeast/yemen-intelligence-raid.html?smid=tw-share&_r=0&referer=t.co/o6Z9lMOAtV

And, should the intelligence gathered be secret or not? After all, Al Qaeda will know what they got and will change plans accordingly anyway.
So, they can easily show people what plots they have stopped, surely, and who they identified for the first time as terrorists.
Whatever info they got will be useless now.
