Or Melania's tied him up, put him in a cupboard & turned the wi-fi off Smile

Ben Sasse statement on wiretapping, via FoxNews twitter. It explains next measures fairly simply.

TheClaws · 05/03/2017 06:00

Across Helsinki Or, his brain has simply scrambled with the sheer injustice and lunacy of 1. the accusations that are being levelled at him, 2. the accusations that he is levelling at other people. Which accusation is which? What is today's accusation? Yesterday's? Was it real or fake? Did I actually do that? Or did he do that?

Really, it must be so hard to be Donald Trump's brain. Even it must be doubting its existence. Am I Donald? Is he Donald? Is that why he keeps talking about himself in the third person? OMG I've cracked it

HelsinkiLights · 05/03/2017 06:02

Claws you're spot on Grin

Dumdedumdedum · 05/03/2017 06:49

Oh, dear, I have been reading the replies to the Ben Sasse thing on Twitter Bigly Sad And then realised it was on Fox News so no wonder. Hastily scampers back to withdraw my retweet, if I can..

TheClaws · 05/03/2017 06:56

Yep don't read replies there Dumdedumdedum. Although, I have noticed them swinging somewhat of late. I do think doubt is starting to seep in. Fox News, also, has altered its tone gently. Murdoch is waiting for the right moment to strike - I have no doubt on this whatsoever.

Dumdedumdedum · 05/03/2017 06:56

*Ooops, should have been a full stop after "Twitter" above.

Just throwing this old thing in here again. Lest we forget.

So, I tried asking someone WHY Obama should be in jail.

She retweeted then posted on her own wall (so in Twitter-etiquette I'm guessing no need to respond) with "OBAMA SUPPLIED ENEMY OF COUNTRY WITH WEAPONS AND MONEY. HE KNEW ABOUT HILLARYS E MAILS LYER. He lied about his fake birth certificat.lyes"

Someone else has just replied so I probably should respond: "sent Iran ransom money. Killed 4 in Benghazi. Created Isis!"

The thing is, what do you say to that sort of thing? "Created ISIS". There's no way you're ever going to crack through that sheer devotion is there? Any facts you use in response will just be "fake news".

Is it best to keep chatting or is that in itself just helping everyone dig themselves into their own respective sides deeper?

This is the BBC story on the whole debacle. Is it me or do they seem to be trying to get a few digs in e.g.low levels of attendence to his rallies. Seems to have a mocking tone but maybe that's just the way I read it!

amispartacus · 05/03/2017 07:56

I don't think you can debate with people who are so devoted using Twitter. I think the best think is to nudge them and give them doubt.

Such as 'Are you ok with him not releasing his tax returns?"
'Should he be wasting tax dollars going to Florida every weekend?"
"Is military spending more important than affordable healthcare for all Americans"
"Trump wants to give rich people tax cuts to stimulate the economy. You ok with that?"

Nudge, nudge, nudge

Just gentle nudging

I think the BBC are pissed off with Trump.

"Trump supporters have held scores of rallies in locations across the country, ranging from several dozen people to the low hundreds, under the banner of the Spirit of America"

I trust the BBC to report what happened. In times of national emergency, the BBC brand is seen as reliable and a go to news source. People need a mainstream media brand to go to to rely on.

I hope that statement is true about the crowds.

OP posts:
amispartacus · 05/03/2017 08:10

No mention on Fox news of the rallies for Trump

www.foxnews.com/politics/2017/03/05/trump-reportedly-unhappy-about-sessions-recusal-from-russia-investigations.html

And no mention by Trump.

If people gather for a rally but not many attend and Fox and Trump don't mention it, did the low attended rally happen? Grin

I've screenshotted your list as a reminder to myself in future Ami. Smile

Breitbart have done a story or two on the "massive" rallies I think? Unfortunately Trump fans aren't BBC fans, so they'll buy that nonsense instead.

Sorry if this has been mentioned but just want to register my WTF at this ABCnews article:

Oklahoma lawmaker asks Muslims: 'Do you beat your wife?'

... An Oklahoma lawmaker who once likened Islam to cancer required Muslims to answer several written questions — including, "Do you beat your wife?" — before agreeing to meet with them.

... "(The prophet) Mohammed was a killer of pagans, Christians and Jews that did not agree with him," read one of 18 questions on the form. "Do you agree with his example?"

amispartacus · 05/03/2017 08:26

I wonder what questions he should ask to people of other faiths before he decides to meet them?

OP posts:
Dumdedumdedum · 05/03/2017 08:29

Ami, I bigly like those questions. I am such a scaredy-cat that I don't have any Trumpsters to engage with on social media, I'm afraid I'm sticking to my echo-chamber for both him and Brexit. Bigly Sad
(Would be grateful for a similar list of questions for the odd Brexiteer I sometimes meet! I have a few but not sure if they are intelligent enough!
Are you happy that Farage has said the £350 Million to fund the NHS was a "mistake" - after the referendum?
Do you understand the word: "advisory"? (Sorry, sarcasm.)
Why should we follow the agenda of an unelected PM who is clearly out for herself?
What does "Hard Brexit" mean? Shouldn't you know what it means before it is implemented?
Did you understand we would have to pay the European Union £millions in order to be able to leave the it?
Do you understand that May cannot dictate her terms to the EU, but needs to negotiate and come to terms with them, terms which might well be detrimental for the UK?
Do you not think it might be better for the country to continue to work from within the EU to challenge what you dislike about it, rather than turn ourselves into a solitary small nation with no standing with the rest of the world?
Hmm, now I've started thinking about it, there must be loads more!)

TheClaws · 05/03/2017 08:35

I did see a tweet on Foxnews of a Trump rally. It had an accompanying image that was laughable as the stands were empty and there were only two or three supporters pictured. I don't think this was an accident BTW. I'll try and find it.

CussingQuim · 05/03/2017 08:37

Go for it Dum!

I'm only dipping my toe in the water on twitter really, and am by no means prolific, but it's less scary than you'd think, especially after you get a few unpleasant replies which you just end up eyeing in bemusement rather than fear. It's also surprising how many people who insult you just vanish if you respond to them by name.

I follow lots of accounts including all the ones Trump follows just to see what's happening outside my own echo-chamber. It's not yet helping me really understand them (as I just tend to read and say WTF), but it's opening my eyes to how many people really inhabit a different universe from me.

As in, god, there is a huge huge far right movement out there. and quite a few bots

TheClaws · 05/03/2017 08:38

Here it is:

amispartacus · 05/03/2017 08:38

Hmm, now I've started thinking about it, there must be loads more

Nudge questions. They're in charge now. So they have to live with the consequences.

'I presume you're ok with having to pay more roaming charges in Europe compared to Europeans?"

"You are fine with the loss of carrier airlines and the EU open sky policy which makes cheap flights abroad possible"

etc etc.

OP posts:
CussingQuim · 05/03/2017 08:48

Definitely a good tactic, but given the amount of support from poorer places, I don't know if most pro-Brexit supporters are the type to fly abroad and use roaming charges anyway?

Claws, I've noticed a tiny shift from Fox too. They must realise they're in deep trouble. Trump fans are being weaned off them to Breitbart. Those against Trump are dug in deeper than ever against them. They risk losing their audience and power, which is probably why Murdoch's started talking about "fake news" issues.

Dumdedumdedum · 05/03/2017 08:51

Did you used to like being able to afford holidays in mainland Europe?

Is that a nudge question?

amispartacus · 05/03/2017 09:00

Did you used to like being able to afford holidays in mainland Europe

It does work both ways of course - but once the decision has been taken, people need to be aware of the real consequences of choices.

The people who can affect Trump are his core supporters and his wavering supporters. Get to them and you get to his power base.

Should we spend 10% more on aircraft carriers, given that most modern warfare uses drones and IT technology or ensure that all American have access to health care?

I know we have debated the route of Cambridge Analytica in the US. This article is a bit about their role in brexit.

Did Cambridge Analytica influence the Brexit vote and the US election?

Interesting to see what the hardcore Trumpets are saying.
From Kurt Eichenwald‏Verified account @kurteichenwald 2h2 hours ago

"I'm reading some trump supporters tweets. They are actually dancing around in belief Obama will be going to jail 4 illegal taps. Insanity."

Another feed shows how they still construct Trump as swamp drainer rather than swamp monster. Only now he is up against the corruption/greed of the GOP. The responses to this particular call to rally to the leader are a revelation:
David A. Clarke, Jr.‏Verified account
@SheriffClarke

"Folks, @realDonaldTrump is fighting by himself in the swamp of D.C. GOP estab is NOT throwing political punches for him. He needs us NOW!"

And Roger Stone's vitriol is quite astounding. Above is just one of the tweets he posted and deleted.
