I'm actually finding that just the word itself is fast becoming tantamount to a nickname Smile

amispartacus · 04/03/2017 23:13

He's not tweeted for a few hours. Will he have tweeted by tomorrow morning?

It's one gobsmacking thing after another.

illegitimateMortificadospawn · 04/03/2017 23:23

Indeed, seeing the last week cataloged like that was sobering.

illegitimateMortificadospawn · 04/03/2017 23:23

Catalogued, even...

peaceout · 04/03/2017 23:27

I futilely try and argue against Trump has someone saying there hasn't been any nicknames against Trump yet
how can anyone seriously suggest that there are no derisive nicknames for Trump....what planet are they on?

I wouldnt waste energy with trump acolytes
'Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you'

one day he'll be a wizened broken old failure and there will still be followers hanging on his every mumbling utterance

Natsku · 04/03/2017 23:31

I can't stop myself from arguing with them. Its frustrating yet so entertaining.

peaceout · 04/03/2017 23:42

well as long as you're getting some entertainment:o
(but you are probably helping to deepen their love for their orange savior)

Natsku · 04/03/2017 23:44

Thankfully there's a fair few that are against him, and even some of his loyal supporters are starting to turn now that he's gone to Maralago again.

AGnu · 04/03/2017 23:53

He was known as Duck Fart for a while on some threads. The way my 5yo says "Donald Trump" sounds like an insult... Grin

peaceout · 05/03/2017 00:02

some of his loyal supporters are starting to turn now
this group may have the greatest power to turn those who continue to support him?

no one wants to be the last person to admit that the emperor is naked

AcrossthePond55 · 05/03/2017 00:05

You're pretty right cozie. A president doesn't have to be convicted of a crime, just that Congress feels there's enough evidence to convict. But it has to be equal to a 'high crime or misdemeanor', and adultery or sexual shenanigans isn't either of those.

During the Lewinsky situation the GOP tried to say that Bill should be impeached solely based on his affair with Lewinsky as it 'endangered the presidency' as an extramarital affair could put the president at risk of blackmail, but it was made pretty clear by Democrats in Congress (and legal experts) that marital infidelity was a 'personal matter', it did not affect the president's ability to carry out his duties, did not endanger the presidency, and was not an impeachable offense. In the end the GOP had to accept defeat on that particular grounds for impeachment. The GOP would have a field day if the Dems tried to impeach Trump for sexual misconduct alone.

Naturally I'm talking about consensual relations with both parties being over age.

On the other subject Lweji, are people on that forum seriously saying that since there are no 'nicknames' for Trump it must mean that he's doing a good job? I'd laugh if it weren't so pathetic.

Destinysdaughter · 05/03/2017 00:10

This seems appropriate at this point...

Lweji · 05/03/2017 00:10

I think you mean Natsku, Across. :)

Natsku · 05/03/2017 00:45

Yup, that's what people are saying. Nutso people.

cozietoesie · 05/03/2017 00:59

On the matter of nicknames - and related issues Grin - it might be unwise for me to use my own extended family as an example. (We now use the word 'Trumpist' as a modern epithet although its significance, it's fair to say, hasn't entirely settled other than that it's uncomplimentary.)

I have, however, heard the term 'fake news' used a number of times in the general population. I fear though - and I must apologise in advance to any Bannon or Conway fans reading this - that it's not understood quite as they may have hoped it would be. Judging from the contexts, accompanying facial movements, rolling eyes and giggles, it seems to be understood - at large - as 'OK. You got me dead to rights on that one but I can't think of any immediate rejoinder.'

I love watching language evolve. Smile

illegitimateMortificadospawn · 05/03/2017 01:02

Our kids (11 and 9) have readily adopted 'bigly' and use it appropriately with appropriate levels of irony/sarcasm and sniggering.

AcrossthePond55 · 05/03/2017 01:19

Oops! You're right *Lweji. That's what happens when you scroll too fast!

Natsku, that's just nuts! We have a (former) friend who's often on a right wing forum, but even they aren't that bad!

But what do we know? After all we all have MN 'nicknames' so we must all be 'bad', right? Pfffft!!!

As to new words and phrases, whenever anything goes haywire DH says "It must have the Trump virus" meaning that it's just all fucked up.

AcrossthePond55 · 05/03/2017 01:21

cozie Bannon or Conway fans, here? If there were any reading this thread I daresay their heads have already exploded from the righteous indignation!

cozietoesie · 05/03/2017 01:28

Achh, Across, you just haven't 'seen the light' yet. After all, didn't Conway criticise 45 in the past before joining his campaign? Wink

AcrossthePond55 · 05/03/2017 01:34

You're right cozie but that's because I've been sitting in the dark with my fingers in my ears rocking back and forth intoning 'no no no" since the election. Grin

HelsinkiLights · 05/03/2017 03:11

I think Putin should drop the big one, the information that will get Trump removed. He'll be loved by all & he will like that.

So come on Vova spill the beans on Trump & you'll be up there with greatest & the USA will become your new bestie.

I can dream can't I?

TheClaws · 05/03/2017 03:50

There's been radio silence for a while ... I reckon he's somewhere strapped to a bed with his phone just out of reach. "Mr President, you promised, remember? You have to suffer the consequences if you break your promises ... just two more hours and you're done."

TheClaws · 05/03/2017 03:51

Either that, or arrested.
