To ask if 35 really is middle aged

Blameitonthenight67 · 26/02/2017 16:37

Colleague described a new worker who is around 35 as middle aged the other day. I was rather shocked I'm 45 and consider myself middle aged and 35 young.

OP posts:
christinarossetti · 26/02/2017 16:39

Bloody hell, I hope not!

Bantanddec · 26/02/2017 16:39

I'd say middle aged was 50!

Wishiwasmoiradingle2017 · 26/02/2017 16:39

I am 45 and my dc won't hear that I am middle aged yet!!

khajiit13 · 26/02/2017 16:39

Yeah I'd jump to 45 as middle aged

Mrsknackered · 26/02/2017 16:40

I suppose 40's is middle aged as life expectancy (i believe) is early 80's for women.
As corny as it is, age is just a number.
I definitely wouldn't class 35 as middle aged, maybe not 'young' but in no means old!

TheElephantofSurprise · 26/02/2017 16:40

Laughable.
My dd is 34, and she's a child.

55-70 is middle-aged. You can be young for another 10 years, OP. I say so.

BestIsWest · 26/02/2017 16:41

No. 35 is very young. 54 is middle aged. I'm 53

SaucyJack · 26/02/2017 16:41

Funny you should post this. I'm 35, and I bought my first Regatta fleece jacket last week.

I'm certainly creeping into middle aged.

SaorAlbaGuBrath · 26/02/2017 16:41

Holy shit I hope not! I'm 35!

Gingernaut · 26/02/2017 16:42

My family 35 is middle-aged.

It depends on what you're used to.

Crumbs1 · 26/02/2017 16:43

I think it depends how old you are. For me it's barely out of childhood.

Oysterbabe · 26/02/2017 16:43

I think middle aged is literally the middle of your life expectancy, so early 40s.

stevie69 · 26/02/2017 16:47

I'm 50. And I'm young. I'm not sure when middle age starts but certainly not yet.

Costacoffeeplease · 26/02/2017 16:51

45 starts middle age, unless we're all going to routinely live to 110/120

I'm 51

Iamastonished · 26/02/2017 16:58

Is the colleague a teenager?

I'm 58, so I suppose I am middle aged Sad

Oysterbabe · 26/02/2017 17:00

What about old age? I guess pension age because of the term OAP?

BumWad · 26/02/2017 17:03

Eh? Middle aged is 50-60 ish

MrsTerryPratchett · 26/02/2017 17:07

Middle aged is 5 years older than I am. Not helpful for the rest of you, but it works for me.

PetalMettle · 26/02/2017 17:08

Yeah I'd reckon so. I will be 36 this week Sad

thesockgap · 26/02/2017 17:08

35?! Bloody hell. That's just a young pup! I would consider late 40s to 50s as middle aged.

TroysMammy · 26/02/2017 17:08

At 49 I consider myself middle aged. Next year I'll be halfway to death Grin

BoomBoomsCousin · 26/02/2017 17:09

Yy MrsTerryPratchett Grin

highinthesky · 26/02/2017 17:10

43 and middle aged but what the hell, I'm not unhappy about having lived a good life thus far.

Purplebluebird · 26/02/2017 17:11

Goodness, I'd think 45 is middle aged. I'm 28, and definitely do not feel I will be middle aged in 6-7 years!

AngelaLondon1234 · 26/02/2017 17:11

I'm in my twenties and consider 35 to be rather young.

50ish is middle aged
