The borough I work in (mental health nurse) has a significant number of people from Sri Lanka and some of the trauma my patients have experienced is appalling. I knew there were problems years ago but these are women who have experienced atrocities in the last 2-3 years at the hands of the army - kidnap, torture and rape. To do that to someone who has endured what she has and is 3 months away from graduating is just fucking spiteful. If that woman was allowed to stay, she would contribute to society and pay taxes as well as being a role model to girls - what percentage of engineers are women? It's just TM throwing her weight around.

I think that's what gets me so angry about it hoolies. What purpose does it serve removing someone from the country who we have clearly invested so much in, just before they reach a point where they can start to repay that investment. Once she gets her degree she will be working in a career that has a skills shortage and she will be paying taxes. Surely we should be making her stay if anything

That article about Spicer's phone checking is hilarious. Clearly it didn't quite have the desired effect. Does he not realise that any leaker worth their salt will use a throw away phone and is not going to be carrying it around with them? You don't send leaks from the white house on your own device FFS.

On the other hand, being that obvious about handing phones over suggests they don't have very good ways of spying on their own staff, or very good security.

I would have assumed in this day and age that there couldn't be any encrypted communications in and out of the White House - cell phone blockers except for certain ones, wifi monitoring etc etc. Bit rubbish that they have to resort to "show me your damn messages".
