To want to wear a burkini

Lighthearted rant coming. Huge respect for the fact that some people want the choice to wear a burkini and thought it was ludicrous when a place in France, a democracy, was requiring women to bear more on beaches last Summer. (How dare men require women to do that etc etc ...)
My issue is that I have just spent an hour of my Sunday which could have been spent with my family attempting to remove the hair that every woman in the planet has so I can go for a swim with my family this afternoon. Normal swimwear requires that I either a) expose my pubes or b) go through a painful, time consuming process which will leave me feeling prickly still in a week's time. I don't like seeing my leg or underarm hair either, so that's had to go too, but even if I was cool with it, the general public would judge. How did we arrive at this nonsense and what's to be done? And where can I get a burkini?

Get a costume like this no pube removal required.

You can get swimwear with boyshort legs that would cover all but the most rampant pubes.

Shaving underarms and stray pubes only takes a minute in the shower though?

Just to add, I am pearshaped and could not look worse in board shorts or the other kind of swimwear shorts. They are not an option. Cycling type shorts I could get away with.

You can get longer legged swim suits that are like shorts so no need to bikini wax/shave.

Although I must say I don't go around judging other swimmers hair or lack of. I think maybe you need a little more confidence to just go out there as you are. A confident person could dress like a traffic cone and still look good surely?

I go swimming every week and I don't usually bother shaving my legs.

If you're scared of the general public's reaction to exposed body hair (and actually, it's you who doesn't like to see your leg/underarm hair), you may be in for a real treat when they see you in a burkini.

YABU. Wearing a burkini is just masking the real issue here - your fear about people judging you.

I wear swim shorts over the top of a swimsuit , they are just above knee length (so cover my thighs too )

I sometimes wear something similar to a burkini. I like to spend a long time in the water and it saves all the time spent putting on sun cream. It doesn't look great, but it is comfy. I do it for me, not because of what the public might think or to cover my body, hair, etc.

Wearing a burkinI is not racist (or cultural appropriation or offensive to muslims) it's a garment designed to be practical for women looking for such garment.

I am aware that people dislike them and it's a controversial piece of clothing but saying wearing one is potentiallyour racist is like saying wearing crocs is racist.

I have to wear one as I've lived in the tropics and have pre skin cancerous moles. It's the only way I can go into the water or swim anywhere hot. I don't give a stuff what anyone thinks and yeah no leg shaving.
Obviously I never go to France.

I'd get that costume from sports direct, it looks ideal for pube coverage. The legs should be relatively unnoticeable unless you have v light skin and v dark hair. Personally I'd shave the armpits as it's a small area and quick job.

It's really comfortable.

I am also pear shaped and have a tankini with short rather than high leg pant style bottoms. It solves the pubes issue and is also way more practical for toddler wrangling and slides etc. It's from a sports shop so much more functional than the usual women's fancy print holiday stuff.

I also have a very short pair of ladies board shorts that I wear on top when on hols round the beach/water park. With my arse and thighs it's never a look wear normally but it's a big inprovement from walking around in pants!

I've long since given up caring about a tiny bit of underarm or leg hair for a family swim (ok I'm not very hairy). Who's going to notice? I do still make more of an effort if with anyone outside my immediate family or lounging about on hol.
