Desperate- which pads won't cause a fanjo fire?

Pitchforktotheface · 25/02/2017 21:35

After 14months of breastfeeding my periods have returned. Pre baby I used a moon cup or tampons, but post baby my vagina is a no go zone.

I picked up some always ultra but they smell like zoflora and my fany feels like its on fire (I get thrush really easily).

So what pads can I use, and buy tomorrow?

I don't want reuseables.

And why the fuck are they perfumed? Who wants their fanjo smelling of an old peoples home?

Definitely Bodyform. What a revelation!

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 25/02/2017 22:53

Why a no go zone (sorry !) as if you can use a mooncup you
Might need to do some physio ? Sad

Cakescakescakes · 25/02/2017 23:15

Naty brand new are the same as Natracare in terms of no bleach or plastic etc but have MUCH better adhesive and absorbency. I order online from Amazon. Only ones I can tolerate post DC.

Cakescakescakes · 25/02/2017 23:15

Ignore the random 'new' that snuck in there

QuestionableMouse · 25/02/2017 23:20

Have a look in the pound shop. My local one sells lillets and unscented always.

PickAChew · 25/02/2017 23:23

Various pound/discount shops sell the lilets.

Thattwatoverthere · 26/02/2017 00:45

I've bought always as on offer and wtf is that smell?! Going to have to get some tomorrow that aren't 'cotton fresh' and make me smell like I'm covering up a bad problem.

Cerazette has messed me up too. Back on it for 2 months after a year off and have bled for the last 4 weeks...

QueenOfTheCatBastards · 26/02/2017 01:31

Always have even made their incontinence products stinky. I've got a horrendous chest infection that is causing coughing fits so violent I'm leaking. I grabbed a pack of the always wee towels to give me a bit of protection because apparently sitting on the loo miserably coughing and pissing myself for the next fortnight isn't allowed and bybthe time I'd got home my entire shopping bag was a nasal nightmare.

DJBaggySmalls · 26/02/2017 01:34

Bodyform, Happy Shopper, Sainsburys or Tesco own brand are all unscented.

SealSong · 26/02/2017 01:42

Natracare pads I found useless....uncomfortable and bunched up into crumpled ridges in no time.
Lil-lets cotton-like pads are lovely, not scented, stick well and feel smooth and comfy. My favourites, but sadly not widely available. Ocado stock them, and boots.
Otherwise, supermarket own brand are usually non scented.

echt · 26/02/2017 04:12

Does Bodyform still do ads like this?

I'm way past all this, and on to the Tenapause.

jellyflood79 · 26/02/2017 05:26

I find this thread fascinating as (scared to admit now) I really like the scented Always.

Totally get why some might not, especially if allergic, but I do not understand the moral outrage about scented products. Are you also this angry about deodorant? Bodily fluids smell. I'd rather smell the fake scent than stale sweat or blood thanks.

ChaoticKate · 26/02/2017 07:09

Boots Cottons. They were a revelation to me as I'd run out of pads I could actually wear without becoming very uncomfortable.

AlmostAJillSandwich · 26/02/2017 07:20

I get mine from poundworld, 2 packs for £1 of ultra night towels. You get 8 in a pack (WHY the higher the absorbency do you get less in a pack?!) Brand is Ultrex, they are in a purple packet, no scent, no weird patterns, wings, decent adhesive, and no weird shaping, the core is very long and wide. I am paranoid about developing incontinence and wear them daily despite the implant meaning i don't gt more than occasional spotting so light it doesnt even end up on the pad, and i haven't ever gotten irritated by them and my skin is sensitive.

BreatheDeep · 26/02/2017 07:34

I use Naty or Natracare and would recommend. I get them from Ocado with my weekly shop.

I'm very cynical as to why Always changed their cheaper pads to scented and have a higher costing pad with no scent. Just smacks of forcing people who don't want a scent to pay more. Why don't the more expensive ones have a scent if it's a superior feature of a pad as they claim?? Hmm

crapitus · 26/02/2017 07:44

Superdrug own brand are excellent. Very slim and absorbent but completely unscented. 75p a pack. Bargain.

voxnihili · 26/02/2017 08:05

I am another to admit I use the Lillets teen range. I'm quite slim and they fit my underwear much better. I have a light flow so the smaller pads are fine for me.

I'm also another one that took Cerazette with no periods, came off it for a while and then got all messed up when I went back on it - my periods could last for 3 weeks, disappear for a week and then come back.

trinity0097 · 26/02/2017 08:10

Always sensitive (the pink packet ones) they are unfragranced, and much like always used to be back in the day!

eurochick · 26/02/2017 08:39

Another vote for Boots Cottons.

To the poster who asked why people don't like them: there are lots of reasons but for me I hate the nasty cheap air freshener smell, and whilst I have never noticed a woman menstruating by smell, I can smell the packet of scented towels from across the room when they are in a closed drawer so they are like a great big advert that you are on your period (nothing to be ashamed of, but not something most people want to advertise).

youarenotkiddingme · 26/02/2017 10:15

Omg I'm sooooo glad I found this thread!

I usually use co op or Aldi own nighttime pads. I use a tampon when out but prefer to use pads at home.

I had a horrific period this month. Really really heavy and flooding through tampax pearl super plus with pad in 1.5/2 hours.

In a necessary emergency I picked up some always at the garage when getting petrol.

My period smelt terrible and I wondered what the bloody hell was wrong with me Blush

Seems the bleeding was excessive but the smell was likely the pad.

It's also left me with a spot between my legs that won't go AngryBlush

TheHodgeoftheHedge · 26/02/2017 10:30

Talking of disposables I heard of these the other day and am desperate to hear from someone who has tried them

Yes! The only time I have ever known a stranger had her period is because I could smell that air freshener scent. I mean I guess it could have been her perfume but I somehow doubt it!

So, if you think it helps to discreetly get rid of the smell of your period, you are sadly mistaken.

ScrambledSmegs · 26/02/2017 11:21

Yeah, I can smell Always pads a mile off and I'm pretty sure others can too. The problem is that they don't actually mask the smell of periods, they enhance it. Underneath that fake fragrance there's a sort of warm iron tang. I've never been able to detect the smell of menstrual blood on any woman before these scented pads came on the scene, but now it's like a big flashing neon sign above your your head.

Even DH has noticed it and he's got quite an insensitive sense of smell, I think.

WomanWithAltitude · 26/02/2017 12:13

Totally agree. The scent doesn't mask the odour, if anything it amplifies it when the smells combine.

misiabella · 26/02/2017 13:28

another vote for bodyform. I used to get that fire sensation from always, so changed to bodyform and never looked back.
