Not an AIBU, just posting for traffic Smile

I just realised that my hairdryer is 15 years old. It's a Remington, and it still works perfectly, so no need to replace it.

I also have a spice rack (spinny round one) which is 10 years old. The spices in it have changed, obviously Wink

Anyone beat those?

Well the whole house is over 100 years old and I've got several books that are 200+ years old.

Electical - the washing machine is about 10 years old and the hairdryer was a 40th birthday present and I'm 52. I think the Billy blending stick is older than that though. I still have a VCR which I think works

I also have a nutcracker that was my grandad's from the 1930s still in its box

9GreenBottles · 26/02/2017 00:49

I have a toaster which was bought in 1985 and still going strong.

Isitjustmeorisiteveryoneelse · 26/02/2017 00:50

Yep, DH is the oldest working item in the house, bless him, at 65 but the Aga is only two years younger a 1954 vintage and still going strong!

JigglyTuff · 26/02/2017 00:51

Oh yes - the sewing machine that I use all the time was bought in 1971 but I have another older one from the mid 50s that I don't use

dingdongthewitchisdead1 · 26/02/2017 00:54

My fridge is 10 years old.
My mums tumble dryer is easily 25! And I'm pretty sure she still has her gas powered braun curling tongs from 1983

OldGuard · 26/02/2017 00:57

I still use blankets and linen that my grandmother got for her wedding in 1920

liz70 · 26/02/2017 00:57

Oh, good grief. Just checking the aforesaid tome. Our not so studious Victorian reader got all the way to part way through the Parson's Tale, then thought, fuck this pile of over long, dreary shite. And so the remaining pages stay, to this day, 164 years later, virginal, uncut, and unread. Tis a tragedy.

Ele13 · 26/02/2017 01:07

Happy to see such a huge number of kenwood chefs on here! My parents still use their late 60s one, but the oldest electrical item they own is a Victorian era electric fan - still works but mainly retired now.

The oldest thing I use is a silver thimble that was my great-great-great (I think) grandmother's although I think I only own 4 pieces of new when I got them furniture the entirety of the rest of my house is furnished second hand.

AgadorSpartacus · 26/02/2017 01:19

My radio alarm clock.

It's a Sony Dream Machine 😁 and was an 18th birthday present. (oh yeah it was exciting times)
This means it's 24 years old and still wakes us up every morning reliably.

SchnitzelVonKrumm · 26/02/2017 01:20

Magimix. Bought when DH and I moved into our first flat together in 1995. Used loads, apparently indestructible.

Pigeonpost · 26/02/2017 01:21

I've got a few pieces of 50's furniture which came from my grandparents' house. Other than that I have a patchwork quilt my mum made when I was born so that's almost 40. Not sure either of those count as something that works though. I have a 17 year old stick blender if that counts!

GreyStars · 26/02/2017 01:34

I have my first toy that my grandfather made me, that has a bell he also made in it - which still works, although it more donks than rings Grin which is nearly 40 years old.

One of my most treasured belongings

StUmbrageinSkelt · 26/02/2017 02:00

My radio alarm clock is 42 years old and still going strong.

I have a 1950's Kenwood and a 1970's Kenwood which both still work. An Ultimate toaster which would be 1950's as well.

Two Coolgardie safes we use as storage which I would guesstimate as 1920's

ladybird69 · 26/02/2017 02:09

Not read full thread. Mine is my hairdryer from Christmas 1986 and my Sony stacker system from 1992, it has a record deck so I can play all of my old fogey records and dance around singing into my hair brush 😁😁😁

AllFurCoatNoKnickera · 26/02/2017 02:23

Le creuset pans. Moving in gift from PIL that was one of their wedding gifts. 35 years and still going strong!

sparkli · 26/02/2017 02:34

We got rid of our beko fridge freezer last year after 16 years. It was still working perfectly, but we had a new kitchen fitted with new appliances.

In almost 20 years of marriage I have gone through 18 irons and 10 hoovers Confused

lizzieoak · 26/02/2017 02:44

1947 cooker. Much old furniture, but that's fairly normal I think. Cooker works pretty well, we just bake everything at 200 degrees Fahrenheit!

walkinganhouraday · 26/02/2017 03:04

I have a plastic colander which I paid 39p for in 1990 when I rented my first flat. So 27 years ago.

enterthedragon · 26/02/2017 03:27

Food processor that is 21 years old, tumble dryer also 21 years old.

Non electric items, a barometer that is at least 60 years old, a penny from the 1880's (can't make out the last digit)

blubberball · 26/02/2017 03:51

I don't know what you'd call it, but my mum has a heavy iron thing that's round and flat, with a handle to hang it in the fire. She still uses it to make Welsh cakes on, only she uses it on the gas hob. It was my nan's, and it was passed down from at least her mother. It is over 100 years old, and my mum still uses it every week.

GeezAJammyPeece · 26/02/2017 03:54

Kudos to the fellow Whovian...

*Echt

A 2WW gas mask : Are you my mummy?*

Oldest household items? It's an old joke, but.. him

But ACTUAL things??? Umm.... it's a toss up between....

Victorian writing box that I got for Christmas, early 1800s crockery/glassware, or if u mean technical things.... 1930s calculating machine or original microwave from when we moved in here around 1999. We also have towels and bedding from mid-90s.

GeezAJammyPeece · 26/02/2017 03:56

@blubberball it's a griddle.
I am in awe, as my mum chucked ours out in the 90s. It made THE best scotch pancakes.

BoomBoomsCousin · 26/02/2017 04:54

I have a ZX81 from 1981. I think it still works, it did last time I had a TV old enough to plug it into!

pyjamaarama1 · 26/02/2017 05:37

Carmen heated rollers my Gran gave to me. They are 40 years old and still work perfectly!
