Not an AIBU, just posting for traffic Smile

I just realised that my hairdryer is 15 years old. It's a Remington, and it still works perfectly, so no need to replace it.

I also have a spice rack (spinny round one) which is 10 years old. The spices in it have changed, obviously Wink

Anyone beat those?

We have an original victorian Sheila Maid (1870) - it's a bit wonky now and has a few million coats of paint on it but still gets daily use & is so useful.

I also have a 1930's singer sewing machine that works but I rarely use it. My main machine I got for my 21st birthday so is 17yrs old and still going strong with regular use.

My food processor is just about hanging on at 15yrs old but as soon as I find one that does exactly what I want I will be replacing it.

Does my 12yo car count? I've had that since new and it's still working really well (& not costing me a fortune - you've got to love a Toyota!)

We have tea towels that were inherited from my great-grandmother and don't seem to have changed at all in the last forty years, so who knows how old they actually are.... :-)

(I've also got a geological collection which would be orders of magnitude older than anything else if it counted - I'll concede that the fossils are no longer in 'working' condition but I think it is a bit of a philosophical question as to what a bit of mineral or rock needs to do in order to be 'still working' :-) )

BigGrannyPants · 27/02/2017 21:56

I have a 39 year old radio that still works perfectly :)

Lostin3dspace · 27/02/2017 22:00

I have a prehistoric shark tooth, up to 420 million years old.
Not sure what use it is though.

skincarejunkie · 27/02/2017 22:04

My ironing board was my gran's. It's older than my mum. And my GHD's are 13 years old. Investment purchase!

Elphame · 27/02/2017 22:05

Oldest electrical appliance still in use here is the mid 1970s music centre. Oldest non electrical object is a c1550 pottery vase. I'm ignoring the various rocks and fossils about the place but I do have a couple of Roman rings from around 300CE

Givemestrengthorwine · 27/02/2017 22:11

The front door and doorbell that you wind by hand on the back, a lloyd loom nursing chair and a set of sharp knives that all came with the house 24 yrs ago, also some plants and trees in the garden. My nans mincer that you clamp to the work top and a radio alarm clock that still works after 22 yrs. 😊

tanfield90 · 27/02/2017 22:14

My Casio digital alarm clock, a present at Christmas 1981. In 1994, after nearly thirteen years' service, it suddenly stopped working. I thought that was that and bought a replacement. Then I had a brainwave; I dismantled the clock, cleaned it inside and thoroughly cleaned the battery terminals and fitted a new set of batteries. It came back to life straight away and worked unfailingly until last week when it had another wobble. I treated it to another deep clean and so far, so good.

All in all, 35 not quite unbroken years of service. In all that time, wherever and whenever I have been away from home, my faithful old Casio chum has come with me Smile.

I have a Bernina sewing machine which was made in the early 1970's. It's built like a tank, runs so smoothly and the stitch quality is second to none. It has all the feet and attachments - I love it!!!

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 27/02/2017 22:16

Clock radiomon my bedside table
Bought for me for my twelfth birthday
I will be 43 this year

clickclickclick · 27/02/2017 22:18

My mum has and still uses a microwave she bought the year before I was born. I am 34 this year. Shock

She also has a large lamp bought the same year, that still works. And a bunch of other non electrical stuff that's old as balls too.

sylwright · 27/02/2017 22:33

Bought my tall larder fridge in January 1978 just after we moved into our 2nd home. Had to order it as a special order as most fridges available then were under the counter ones. Moved house twice since then and it was in storage for 4 weeks along with all my furniture before the last move and its still working fine. I think I've had about 4 or 5 different freezers in the same time.

WhoKn0wsWhereTheTimeG0es · 27/02/2017 22:38

My mum's microwave dates back about 35 years too, it still works but is very slow compared to my 22 year old one.

stevie69 · 27/02/2017 22:40

Hmmm .... me I expect Blush

helpimitchy · 27/02/2017 22:42

A palaeolithic hand axe. It would still work if I wanted to use it, but I prefer to buy ready prepared meat from tesco rather than doing my own butchering caveman style Grin

blueamberuk · 27/02/2017 22:43

ME!!!!

Herhighness · 27/02/2017 22:45

Kenwood stand mixer 'chef ' model, purchased in 1983 , still going strong.
The only thing that's changed is the cover, I had to buy a new cover last year.

FoxyRoxy · 27/02/2017 22:46

As per the op my hairdryer is also the oldest working electrical thing in my house. I've had it since I was 16 and I'm 37 this year so it's 21 and still going strong. I've also got a comb that I still use that I got free with just seventeen magazine in about 1994 Blush

I have a Bel yogurt maker which is at least 42 years old. It is blue and white and I use it when we are getting short of yogurt instead of going shopping for one item.

Also have a Russell Hobbs stainless steel kettle from about 1980.Works and kept as a spare.

Pifco slow cooker from 1980's, a blender by Moulinex about the same age and my food processer which still works but leaks.

If something still works I don't replace it with a newer model as I have discovered that the new ones are usually crap.

engineersthumb · 27/02/2017 23:14

The wife!

pollyglot · 27/02/2017 23:21

Granny:s fridge, bought in 1937, and still going strong. That and my Roman coin collection, neolithic stone tools and 17th cent oak coffer,

WellIGuessThisIsGrowingUp · 27/02/2017 23:42

I have a hand mixer which I used to use in the 80's when I was little. I have no idea how old it is would guess it's from the late 1970s due to it's white and beige colours... And it's brill!!

Unipottimus · 28/02/2017 00:42

When my parents split up and dad bought his new house I found a hairdryer in a cupboard . That was in 1998 (it was dated then!). My sister informs me modern hairdryers can smooth n all sorts! [Wink]

Athrawes · 28/02/2017 06:08
