AIBU?

Up, dressed, ready & out in 15 mins?

DH can do just this. Out of bed, quick shave, brush teeth, quick shower, towel dry head hair. Put clothes on ( jeans, shirt, jumper) Put shoes on, pick up wallet & keys.. Done.

AIBU to be jealous?

I hate having to wash my hair, dry it, straighten it, put makeup on every day. If I wash it the night before it feels dirty in the morning. On the rare occasions I don't bother with makeup (I don't wear much) people ask me if I'm ill because I look so rough.

How long does it take you just to get up and leave the house?

I could easily do 30 minutes with shower, dry hair, full make up and a slice of toast/tea. I have to wash my hair as i have weird straight, fine hair that makes me look like a wild woman after it has been slept on. Wetting it and straightening it take far longer than just washing it and doing it.

Do people tell men they look ill when they don't wear make up? Of course not, it's just an expectation that women wear make up and they look 'rough' without it. It's entirely up to you , OP, but nothing bad will happen if you don't wear it.

20-30 mins. Rarely wear make up, sort out clothes the evening before, just comb my hair.
You have to learn to be comfortable with your face and hair in their natural state, just like most men are and see make up and faffing on with hair as a special occasion thing.

I can do it in 20 mins if I don't have to get DD ready as well. We take an hour on workdays to get us both ready, fed and out the door.

Creme
In my case that's because I dont do any of that. Baths are in the evrning so wet towels are sorted then. DH works from home so he does our room when he gets up, DC do their rooms. I don't eat breakfast/have hot drinks before I leave and everyone rinses off their own breakfast stuff.

If I'm by myself it takes 35 minutes but breakfast is already on the table. So shower, teeth, clean but messy-style hair and a touch of makeup. Clothes chosen the night before.
But that's the minimum.

If I'm taking DD (10) to school it's 55 but then I have time to clear away, put on a load of washing etc. We have tag-team bathroom use in the morning!

It takes me about 90 minutes but I wake early naturally and prefer to get up and sorted leisurely without rushing.

I get up, jump in shower, wash hair, get out and dress dry/straighten hair, make up then get kids up, do their breakfast, have mine while the eat theirs, wash and dress kids then depending on the day, out to childcare/breakfast club or school run on my days off. Bags and lunches are packed the night before.

I used to feel like that about my hair. Now I just Batiste it and brush it. I'm totally used to it now.

Creme, living with DH doesn't make any difference to me hanging up my towel, making the bed, opening the blinds, I did that in the same short routine before I met him. Probably takes me 2 minutes out of my 15.

Casual, no shower is 5-6 and cleaning my teeth is 2 of those Smile although I can multitask and give the sink a wipe at the same time.

Alarm at 5.45am, out of house at 6.20am (just as sport comes on Today programme). DD's alarm goes off at 6.25, so if I hear that, I know I'm late...

How can your hair feel dirty the morning after washing it? You might need to change your shampoo.

If you like straightening your hair then do it the night before. You can get hair wraps that keep your hair in position overnight so it doesn't get out of shape. You should be able to wake up in the morning, brush it and it be ready.

Wear a shower cap in the shower.

Choose your clothes the night before and put them out so you just have to put them on after a quick shower.

It would take the same amount of time for your DH to shave as it would for you to put on a bit of make up. It doesn't take long if you practice and do away with unnecessary steps.

I'd be stressed all day, knowing I'd be coming home to a messy house.

I have never aired or made my bed even pre-kids. I leave my towel on my bedroom floor (sometimes I hang it back up).

With 2 small children I leave the house in 30mins each morning. We don't have breakfast - they have it a breakfast club and me at work. Dh take a child each to supervise/nag into dressing.

And the reason? I like sleep a lot. I'd never get up earlier just to faff and tidy.

If it's just me at home I can be up and out in 10mins for work.

If the 2 dc are at home we get up 45mins-an hour before we need to leave. We could be faster if I made lunch/got uniforms out the night before.

I guess you need to address the two things:

  1. Washing, drying and straightening hair every day. If your hair NEEDS that before you can be seen, you sound like you could do with a different hairstyle that suits its type and your needs.

  1. I put foundation, a bit of eyes, tinted lip balm on each day and save the full works for when I have more time/special occasions. Are you doing a full face each day? OK, maybe ask why. Maybe see which areas you could do a little less on. Maybe you need products that do more things - the 3-in-1 (primer, concealer, foundation) Max Factor foundation is really good. Maybe just cut down a bit?

Each to their own, Huckleberry. I couldn't cope with unmade or unaired beds or towels or clothes on the floor, myself.

Haha 10-15 minutes including a shower (no hair wash) if no kids. 2.5 hours with kids.

I can do it, but not with a shower or make up (I don't wear makeup). I eat breakfast after I arrive at my desk. I run or swim around midday, with shower, so I don't shower right after I get out of bed.

I'm another who would struggle to be out in 15 minutes if the house was on fire. Toothbrushing is two minutes and shower is five so that's halfway to 15 before I'm even dressed!

Since having DS I'm loads quicker though, I've stopped washing my hair every day (and the sky hasn't fallen in) and I've cut my make-up routine in half. I still wear some though, I'm truly not a pretty sight without it. Luckily DH is a champion faffer (seriously, it takes the guy 20 actual minutes to feed two cats most mornings) and we work together, so there's very little point in me being ready before half an hour.

I applaud anyone who tidied their house in the morning though, I wish I was so disciplined.

I can't do it that quick. Low blood pressure means I take a while to get moving and IBS keeps me in the loo. DC's are currently going through a stupid phase in the mornings too.

Usually wake at 6:30 to leave at 8:20. I could do it a bit quicker on my own though.

Depends what I'm working. On a day I get up at 5.50am and leave the house at 7.10am but I wear a lot of makeup and like to wake up gradually!
On a night it's more like 2hrs because I need to eat my tea and again wake up slowly

15mins is pushing it - I like to have breakfast, including a hot drink before leaving - but you don't have to wash, dry and starighten your hair, you choose to. You certainly don't have to put any make up on, you choose to.
If you want to be out of the house quicker, then make different choices. If it is important to you to do all that unnecessary faffing, then you aren't going to be able to cut down to 15mins.

er, an hour and a half, even on the days I don't have the DCs - do I win? I'm up at 5.45 and leave at 7.15: bath, wash, dry and straighten my hair, make my lunch, do proper make-up (eg instagram eyebrows, flicky eyeliner). I think that's what takes so long - maybe 15 mins. I used to do it in the car driving one-handed (sorry, police officers). I found that fast straight roads were actually no good for applying mascara as they were bumpier, slow and bendy is fine though. I used to eat breakfast while driving too, until one day I had to call autoglass out to my work for a chip in the windscreen, that turned out to be marmalade :(

I can do it, if I know what I'll be wearing and don't have to rummage for good tights.

I don't wash my hair in the morning though.

Report
Eolian · 25/02/2017 15:23

I have to wash my hair every morning because it's very fine and straight and looks greasy and limp (and therefore dirty, although I know it actually isn't) if I don't. However, it takes no time to wash it in the shower and I rarely even blow dry it - it dries very quickly.
I can be ready and out of the house in 20 mins if I need to, including shower and make-up (BB cream, concealer, lip balm, that's it).

Desperina · 25/02/2017 17:17

I can do 15-20 min no bother. Get up, shit look at the time. Put kettle on and water to boil. Go to bathroom brush teeth, wash face (night showerer 😎), return to kitchen, make tea, drop egg and toast on. Moisturise, Get as dressed as I can before egg is done, eat, put shoes on+ eyebrows > leave.

I'm v low maintenance it is true. My hair does itself/doesn't get done, depending on your perspective.
