So, a friend of mine sent me a message saying her ds swore at a teacher today.

I already knew, as my ds had told me about it after he got home from school. As friend's ds was boasting at lunchtime. Ds thinks he's an idiot, as since joining secondary he thinks he is "hard".

Anyway, her message said what had happened, followed by a load of laughing emojis.

Wtf? What am I missing?

I just sent back "that's not very funny" but not had a reply.

If I'd dared to swear at a teacher my mum would have battered me! If any of ours did I wouldn't hit them, but they'd know fine how unacceptable their behaviour was and there would be strong consequences for their disgusting behaviour and an apology to the teacher!

So he called a teacher a "fucking bitch" to her face?

And what, do you know-carried on with the rest of the day?

tigerdriverII · 25/02/2017 09:53

I'd assume she was laughing.

I'd reply without commenting on the emojis asking her how she proposes to address this. Her response will tell you all you need to know.

I think the fact that she messaged you about it shows that it has bothered her. I'm wondering whether the emojis are to mask her embarrassment.

I second that, she might be out of her depth and unsure what to do now. I'd be livid if my kids swore at a teacher.

She's probably embarrassed. People often do laugh when they are embarrassed. I doubt she's actually laughing about it.

TheNaze73 · 25/02/2017 10:31

If she was genuinely laughing, the poor child doesn't stand a chance.

Bodicea · 25/02/2017 11:26

She is probably putting a brace face on it and is trying to get your support/ advice.
You don't sound like much of a friend to send such a judgey, catty reply back. Am sure your children are always angels! Hope she has better friends than you.

Children who speak to their teachers like this eventually speak to their mothers like this. Then their wives. Then their daughters.
