Speaking of Clinton, I wonder if Chelsea has political ambitions. She has been much more vocal on Twitter than her mum.

Ah good. Trump supporters on twitter gearing up. Confused

Can I encourage you all to sign up too, and just retweet the things you agree with (on either side)? It's not as terrifying as it sounds. You're welcome to follow me too no matter what your beliefs (username CussingQuim again!)

Boehner said that? I think for him to say it won't be repealed and replaced is HYUGE!!! He was always the one who, when approached by Obama or Dems about working together on healthcare, stuck his fingers in his ears, screwed up his face, and said "Won't, won't, WON'T!!" and threatened to overturn it at every chance. He was always for whole-sale repeal, no matter who it hurt.

Scrotus' address to Congress will be interesting. But it's here where I wish we had the 'mindset' of Parliament. 'Tradition' is that Congress sit silently no matter what the President says. I've seen PMQT and speeches by a PM on CSPAN where there was loud muttering and 'tutting' during the speech signifying disapproval as loud as a shout would be. That wouldn't happen here. There was a HYUGE outcry when Joe Wilson (Rep, SC) shouted 'You lie!' during one of Obama's speeches. Even his own party was aghast and he was forced to apologize.

Given the choice between a lie which validated their bigotry and truth which challenged it, they opted for the former. And this is the real challenge facing opponents of the far-right, from liberals through to anti-fascists: how do you change minds which have no desire to change?

History would suggest that, instead of courting the far-right, we need to repair the bridges between the majority which don’t follow their ideology. The liberals, the left, the progressives, the anti-fascists. Because the narrow confines of the liberal establishment cannot win this battle on its own. It must wake up to the fact that the progressives to its left are allies, instead of treating them as the left fork of an extremist pincer movement. That way, the far-right will be outnumbered and outgunned where it counts – in the battle of ideas.

I think the aftermath of the address will be interesting, Ginger. I can't see Trump giving a professional and respectful address to Congress, as is expected of a President. In the past, even when a President was 'stern', he was still respectful. And no President would stand before Congress and indulge in personal glorification!

It's more than likely to be a bragging and complaining session with a great deal of telling Congress how it's going to be and implying that they must go along with it, as a CEO would do. I don't think it's going to go well with either side of the aisle. What remains to be seen is if the Republicans have the balls (or ovaries) to criticize it.

Something like 'warning - likely to give Mavis a stroke/the rage/fit of the vapours'?

I absolutely agree with you Ami. I despair everytime I hear people who should stand together arguing about how we change the minds of core Trump followers who will never change their minds in response to anything they see as a liberal arguement. The left has an infuriating tendency to self flagellation, excessive compromise to the right and bickering about the detail who is the bestest leftest. We need to get over the fact that people may disagree on the details and instead focus on the big deals of equality, freedom of pressure, and human rights that we all believe in.

As people start to realise what they're about to lose...

"The 2010 health care law is becoming more popular, even as it heads toward the chopping block — further complicating efforts by President Donald Trump and congressional Republicans to repeal and replace it."

The same percentage now approve as disapprove.

And majorities want to keep some aspects of the ACA.

"Nearly two-thirds of voters, 65 percent, want to keep prohibiting insurance companies from denying coverage to patients with pre-existing conditions, including 59 percent of Republicans. Sixty-three percent want to keep allowing those younger than 26 years of age to stay on their parents’ plan, including 56 percent of Republicans."

www.politico.com/story/2017/02/obamacare-repeal-replace-poll-235245

I wonder what will happen, but for now Obama is probably head butting his desk and having a quiet laugh at the same time.
