Is the US a dictatorship now?
Nah, but it looks like we may be headed that way!
Someone (ami?) asked earlier about how long before some of us seriously think about leaving the country. Some of us have already thought about this as an abstract concept. The problem is that most of the countries we would think of heading to (UK, Canada, Aus, NZ) have extremely rigorous immigration policies and many of us wouldn't qualify for permanent residency as it now stands. DH and I are retired, have a very good guaranteed retirement income, health insurance, and a 'generous' savings pot. We wouldn't be taking anyone's job, we wouldn't be receiving govt benefits. But we don't qualify for permanent residence as these countries say you must have a 'tie' (i.e. family) to the country to be granted permanent status. Hopefully the day will never come when we'd be eligible for refugee status.
