His Achilles' Heel is Congress - including the VP administration. 45 may .......have an interesting mindset but they do not, generally.

During the election there was a photo around of Ivanka with Putin's supposed girlfriend in Croatia.

pic shows lack of 6 block long queue

Ok have to be a little Devil's Advocatey here and question at what time that picture was taken, because I had the fun of taking a picture of the crowd turning up for my President when it was still early and hardly anyone was there yet (and did the whole "yuge turnout" thing) but it wasn't really honest because the crowd picked up later, so how accurate is that picture? I certainly don't believe what Trump said but also that picture seems a little 'too' empty.

cozietoesie · 24/02/2017 21:32

Being a Devil's Advocate is great, Natsku. Smile

HateSummer · 24/02/2017 21:33

Is the US a dictatorship now?

AcrossthePond55 · 24/02/2017 21:37

This is so frightening. Excluding the free press. Wow. It serves two purposes, the first obviously is to stop free and open reporting. The second is again misdirecting attention. People are (rightly) talking about this but also it's also directing attention away from Trump's attempts at controlling the intelligence community for his own purposes.

CussingQuim · 24/02/2017 21:39

What's going on with the stock market? I'm seeing various reports - some saying hurrah, everything's up and will stay up forever, others saying stuff is up and that only/mainly happens before a massive crash which is imminent. Does anyone know how to interpret it all?

Natsku · 24/02/2017 21:39

Love being a Devil's Advocate cozie unfortunately I tend to be so good at it people really think I am for the Devil Grin

CussingQuim · 24/02/2017 21:42

Devils advocates would definitely be good here. God, even passionate Trump supporters would be good. Just as long as people talk and explain stuff and reason. We're all just looking, perhaps hopelessly, for answers. Smile

Lweji · 24/02/2017 21:43

I'm listening to the CNN report and it looks like some other media boycotted the gaggle in protest.
The Press Association is not happy.

GingerIvy · 24/02/2017 21:45

Can't link as it's miles down the twitter feed now, but numerous news media reported at the time that it was pretty much empty outside except for a few staffers floating about - that was at the same time he was stating there was a queue 6 blocks long outside. A number pointed out that most were there a good hour prior to Trump speaking, and very few showed up in that last hour before he spoke.

Lweji · 24/02/2017 21:45

Also, the CNN report also highlighted the stories the WH is not happy about at the moment.

I suspect their stance is "the WH is trying to prevent us from questioning and reporting on X, Y and Z stories"

AcrossthePond55 · 24/02/2017 21:48

Is the US a dictatorship now?

Nah, but it looks like we may be headed that way!

Someone (ami?) asked earlier about how long before some of us seriously think about leaving the country. Some of us have already thought about this as an abstract concept. The problem is that most of the countries we would think of heading to (UK, Canada, Aus, NZ) have extremely rigorous immigration policies and many of us wouldn't qualify for permanent residency as it now stands. DH and I are retired, have a very good guaranteed retirement income, health insurance, and a 'generous' savings pot. We wouldn't be taking anyone's job, we wouldn't be receiving govt benefits. But we don't qualify for permanent residence as these countries say you must have a 'tie' (i.e. family) to the country to be granted permanent status. Hopefully the day will never come when we'd be eligible for refugee status.

Lweji · 24/02/2017 21:51

Come to Portugal. The Algarve is almost a British colony anyway.

amispartacus · 24/02/2017 21:52

Hopefully the day will never come when we'd be eligible for refugee status

You can see how easily it happens. History tells us that. When you just don't feel your country of birth feels like your country anymore.

amispartacus · 24/02/2017 21:55

TBH - right now, I feel like I don't belong in the UK anymore. I hate living in a country so divided and with a PM who doesn't give a shit about the 48%. The nearly half the country who voted Remain.

But I have a job here and family here. Although DS would happily move to France tomorrow Grin

Deejoda · 24/02/2017 22:05

Senator Rick Santorum "Sometimes pregnancy is God's way of comforting rape victims"

Shock O.M.G!!! I feel sick reading these words. Bigly nauseated.Sad

I hope the backlash against press censorship is swift and yuge. This gaggle thing is beyond a joke. Mad

Destinysdaughter · 24/02/2017 22:06

Ami, I feel that the same. Am also bloody sick to death of hearing the phrase, " the will of the people". Not this bloody person!

Natsku · 24/02/2017 22:08

Cheers Ginger

I, speaking on behalf of Finland, (cos I declare myself official spokesperson) welcome American refugees to Finland, Brexit refugees too. I need English-speaking people here to talk to!

What stock markets and traders like is 'volatility'. Betting in such an atmosphere is how you make a quick buck. Smile

cozietoesie · 24/02/2017 22:12

Across

I think/hope that we're all remembering that these actions are not with the consent of the whole people. Only a minority in fact.

SenecaFalls · 24/02/2017 22:16

DH and I are in a similar situation to Across except that I am still working, but only a year from retirement. We would consider moving to Scotland in a heartbeat for the duration of this presidency, if it were feasible and if we didn't have children and young grandchildren that we don't want to be that far from.

On the other hand, I do feel a duty to stay here and fight the good fight.

cozietoesie · 24/02/2017 22:19

I think you'll be needed, Seneca. Sadly, we are likely to end up with two Americas, I reckon, but I see little way round that.

It was liberal activists who handed out those Russian flags:
