Crisp sandwich - normal, right?

itwillbegrandsure · 23/02/2017 14:26

I LOVE a crisp sandwich. Especially with salt n vinegar crisps. Was thinking I'd love one earlier (but no crisps in the house) and then remembered a friend thinking I was totally bonkers for having crisps in a sandwich.

Anyone else? Or is my friend right and I'm totally bonkers...?!

On that note, any other 'out of the norm' sandwich fillings you all in enjoy?

I did experiment the other day though, with an onion bagel, marmite and onion ring crisps. DH caught me creating my masterpiece and walked out again shaking his head the heathen

WildwestWind · 23/02/2017 22:52

Slices of banana and tomato topped with ready salted crisps in a barmcake - best butty ever!

FreedomMummy · 23/02/2017 22:52

Now I want a crisp sandwich...

BitOutOfPractice · 23/02/2017 22:53

Oh god yes yes yes to a crisp sandwich. Especially when you're poorly.

jamdonut · 23/02/2017 22:53

I want a bloody crisp sandwich right NOW!

I love them!

Why did I read this thread? Feel starving...

OhBeggerItsMorning · 23/02/2017 22:53

Love a good crisp sandwich, particularly if made with ready salted crisps, but the best ever is a Paprika Pringle sandwich. Have even converted the boys to crisp sandwiches, especially ASD ds who doesn't tend to eat sandwiches (doesn't normally mix textures), but he can't get enough of the Pringles option! We normally end up fighting over the last ones in the tube.

When younger we sometimes had sugar sandwiches, tomato ketchup sandwiches or buttery potato sandwiches (sometimes with garden peas), but chip butties were always a favourite, particularly with a little salt, vinegar and tomato ketchup.

Yum.

MrsHathaway it does have to be a really soft wholemeal roll from the fresh bakery bit if that's more forgivable?!

Sara107 · 23/02/2017 22:56

Absolutely normal.

MommaGee · 23/02/2017 22:59

A friend used to eat mashed potato sandwiches, I found that odd.
honestly, its amazing. it's like a chip butty without the deep fried bits. mmmmmmmm.

Gruyere and honey with black pepper is probably as mad as I get. i think there might be a class issue here haha

love a crisp butty BUT cutting the bread in half is wrong. Eah piece of bread buttered, crisps in and fold over. white bread only. addition of cheese acceptable.

if i have prepacked sandwiches i have to add crisps as i need the crunch

Oh. Oh, I see. I was thinking of something heartier.

Unnngh. Now I reaaaaaaaally want one. With Philadelphia and cheese Doritos.

MommaGee · 23/02/2017 23:01

i like pastry sandwich too, like if you have pie and chips from the chip shop

RufusTheSpartacusReindeer · 23/02/2017 23:03

Wouldnt have a cottage pie sandwich but i do use a slice of bread and butter to scrape my plate

And i love yesterdays curry and rice with bread and butter....love, love, love

stoopido · 23/02/2017 23:04

I love crisp sandwiches although not salt and vinegar ones I prefer cheese and onion or currently my fav is beef and onion flavour or marmite crisps flavoured crisps.
I also like beetroot and mayonnaise sandwiches or spring onion and mayonnaise.

HappyFlappy · 23/02/2017 23:08

Every sandwich, irrespective of filling, is improved with the addition of Crisps.

This. ^^^^

Except possibly pilchard.

LilQueenie · 23/02/2017 23:11

pickled onion crisp sandwich and irn bru is briliant.

WhiteTable · 23/02/2017 23:12

Not a sandwich as such, but I love cream cheese and lemon curd spread thickly on a slice of bread! It's amazing!!

blueistheonlycolourwefeel · 23/02/2017 23:13

Cheese, salad cream and cheese and onion crisps.

Wdigin2this · 23/02/2017 23:16

No, I don't like crisps in a sandwich either!

rattieofcarcassone · 23/02/2017 23:18

Not bonkers at all. My favourite thing is a thin layer of mature cheddar with either ready salted or cheese and onion crisps. Best thing ever. May have to go buy some crisps tomorrow now!

Enko · 23/02/2017 23:20

Never saw the appeal but yes its pretty normal IMO.

MotherofPearl · 23/02/2017 23:32

I love a crisp sandwich and haven't had one in ages. Must be: white bread, butter, mature cheddar, cheese & onion crisps, plus thin slices of strong pickled onion.

I'm home tomorrow with the DC and contemplating rustling up a plate of crisp sandwiches for our lunch to indulge my craving as a half-term treat.

UntilTheCowsComeHome · 23/02/2017 23:32

Best sandwich/crisp combo ever is a Village Bakery cheese topped roll filled with tuna mayo and Tyrells special edition butter and mint flavour crisps.

Davros · 24/02/2017 00:01

And that thing where you use just one slice of bread and gold it over (regardless if filling) is called a hand sandwich - boom tish

PickledCauliflower · 24/02/2017 00:03

I love cheese and onion crisps in a sandwich, with a bit of marmite.

A guilty pleasure is a pot noodle sandwich (chicken and mushroom flavour). I am sure that the bad carb and salt content is high, and little nutritional value etc. I don't have one every day, but it's a great hangover helper. Either that or curry rice and chips :)

Vandree · 24/02/2017 00:05

I'm Irish and I am pretty sure the national dish of Ireland is tayto crisps, brennans bread(or batch bread if you were feeling posh) and half a tub of dairygold butter. We were raised on it on summer holidays. I did mix it up when pregnancy cravings meant I needed salt and vinegar in sambo form so I am very partial to chipstix on cheap bread. My uncle introduced us to supernoodles on white plastic bread also which is amazing. Chips butties are literally must have food for after being on the beach all day.

We then went through the toasty phase as teens where everything was fair game. Butter toasties, jam toasties, mac and cheese(tinned) toasties, ravioli toasties, shepards pie toasties and egg toasties were a bugger to make but so good! Im pretty sure it was just carbs for growing teens and we could make it ourselves.
