Crisp sandwich - normal, right?

I LOVE a crisp sandwich. Especially with salt n vinegar crisps. Was thinking I'd love one earlier (but no crisps in the house) and then remembered a friend thinking I was totally bonkers for having crisps in a sandwich.

Anyone else? Or is my friend right and I'm totally bonkers...?!

On that note, any other 'out of the norm' sandwich fillings you all in enjoy?

I agree with just about all of the above (apart from anything that contains eggs!)

However, it has to be cheese and onion flavour crisps, salt and vinegar are just nasty.

neveradullmoment99 · 23/02/2017 22:17

As a student my regular lunch was a crispy white morning roll with a cheese slice and some salt and vinegar crisps on top!!! Yum!

MrsDoylesTeabags · 23/02/2017 22:19

Mmm, Cheese and Skips or Tomato Snaps. Food of the gods Grin

GoLightlyHollie · 23/02/2017 22:21

Has to be white bread with crushed cheese n onion crisps. Not had one in years. Might have to have one tomorrow.

PopcornBits · 23/02/2017 22:23

I just had a crisp sandwich. This thread made me go make one.

Davros · 23/02/2017 22:26

Anyone care to join me in a hot chocolate and cheese straw? Mmmm

Tomorrowillbeachicken · 23/02/2017 22:27

I had a crisp and ham one at lunch

Jux · 23/02/2017 22:27

I have heard of this thing, but never seen one.

I was about 17 when my bf made herself a fish finger sandwich once. At seeing my shock, she then talked of crisp sandwiches and of sugar sandwiches. She made one of the latter. I tried it.

I was never the same.

Tomorrowillbeachicken · 23/02/2017 22:29

Lol my son had a fishfinger sandwich yesterday.

Lynnm63 · 23/02/2017 22:30

Crisp sandwiches are the food of the gods. White bread, obviously, butter if I'm doing it properly, cheese spread and cheese and onion crisps preferably although I'd happily eat most flavours except prawn cocktail.
Chip butties are a very close second. Nigel Slater did a food porn show a few years ago, crusty white bread, real butter and proper home made chips. Dh and I looked at each other and ran to the kitchen to make one. It's a regular Saturday lunchtime treat in our house.

I'm not sure whether to feel sorry or envious of anyone whose never had one. Sorry you've missed out or envious you get to experience it for the first time.

dalmatianmad · 23/02/2017 22:31

Dairy lee cheese spread sandwich with ready salted crisps or a cheese sandwich with cheese and onion crisps Wink

RueDeWakening · 23/02/2017 22:31

Crisp sandwiches - food of the gods.

White bread, butter, ready salted crisps. And salad cream.

DH once had an argument with a Greek girl who thought that you couldn't have a "carbohydrate sandwich". She was objecting to two specific things without having ever tried them - a crisp sandwich, and a chip butty. DH was right, obvs... :o

OvariesBeforeBrovaries · 23/02/2017 22:32

Pom Bear sandwiches are pure perfection. A staple of my student diet Grin

Saltpot3 · 23/02/2017 22:33

I'm a purist me - thin white sliced, real butter, plain crisps. Nothing else. Mmmm. Anyone for ketchup sarnies? Or better still chip sandwiches? My husband is horrified by those but then he's from Surrey.

Benedikte2 · 23/02/2017 22:34

How nice to know I'm not strange always felt the need to hide my liking for crisp sandwiches cheese and onion with plenty of butter are my favourite. What sinfull pleasure!

MsJamieFraser · 23/02/2017 22:36

I love a crisp sandwich. It notnon its own, it has to me homemade chunky bread, with pickle chutney, proper ham and strong cheddar cheese with seabrooks salt and vinegar crisps or golden wonder picked onion.

FOOD OF THE GODS Blush

Lynnm63 · 23/02/2017 22:36

There's going to be a national crisp shortage tomorrow as all mumsnetters rush to have one!

Franticultra · 23/02/2017 22:39

Oh yes! With lashings of tomato ketchup too!!!

yeahyeahyeahmama · 23/02/2017 22:43

LittleWingSoul · 23/02/2017 22:45

You have to pick out the best biggest crisps out of the pack first to fill the sandwich though, and then the more crumbled bits can be consumed by tipping them back into your mouth.

I only ever eat a sandwich with crisps inside, not the best for clandestine sandwich eating though, in lectures, meetings etc. Everyone can hear you at it.

MrsHathaway · 23/02/2017 22:47

I'm reminded that DH will happily put mashed potato or - for preference - potato waffles in his fish finger sandwich.

RichardHead · 23/02/2017 22:48

Am I the only person who prefers a wholemeal roll?! Filling of choice being a fucktonne of marmite and bacon frazzles, heaven, sheer heaven

Missdread · 23/02/2017 22:49

Crisps meh but MINI CHEDDARS in a sandwich?! Now you're talking!

MrsHathaway · 23/02/2017 22:50

Richard that's the brownest thing ever.

And yes, wholemeal is completely wrong. The whole point is to have the softest possible bread (so crusty white would also be wrong) juxtaposed with the crunchiest possible crisps (so Squares are ideal and pp's suggestion of popcorn is just ridiculous). It's a mouth feel thing: a multisensory experience. Including the noise, as pp remarks.

Sounds, tastes, feels, and the glinting white look of the thing.

I gave up bread for my 2017 NY Resolution. I haven't regretted it until today.

Summerof85 · 23/02/2017 22:51

I've just had two salt and vinegar crisp sandwiches. Also prosecco Grin
