Crisp sandwich - normal, right?

itwillbegrandsure · 23/02/2017 14:26

I LOVE a crisp sandwich. Especially with salt n vinegar crisps. Was thinking I'd love one earlier (but no crisps in the house) and then remembered a friend thinking I was totally bonkers for having crisps in a sandwich.

Anyone else? Or is my friend right and I'm totally bonkers...?!

On that note, any other 'out of the norm' sandwich fillings you all in enjoy?

morrisons cheese and onion topped buns with plain crisps in the middle or beef. mmmm.

i do like plain crisps covered in vinegar as well though, love it when they go soft

monkeysox · 25/02/2017 18:40

Any crisps at all but have to be actual potato crisps not like quavers etc.

Record one when pg. White bread, lurpak, corned beef, raw onion. Branston pickle and a bag of Seabrook beef or walker's cheese and onion went down a treat!

Crisp (only butter with them) sandwich is acceptable as my lunch now.

No, thank you itwillbegrandsure. It's been three years. People always say that one day you'll look back and smile and you've just given me that opportunity. Smile

monkeysox · 25/02/2017 18:55

That's lovely limited. Me and my mum used to have crisp sandwiches for supper if dad went to the pub. It takes a long.time for memories to not always run down your face and to make you smile instead Flowers

With you there monkeysox.

The only acceptable thing to make a crisp from is a potato. Anything made from beetroot, parsnip or sweet potato - which everyone knows aren't actually potatoes - are like greasy scabs.

Actually, I've eaten a greasy scab. They taste better.

x post monkeysox. Lovely point about memories making you smile instead of running down your face. Flowers

On the back of this thread I went to make myself a white bread and s&v sarnie last night.

There was no bread, I cried a bit.

I feel that pain mortificado I've just started reading this thread and decided I must have a crisp sandwich by about 3 posts in. I don't have any bread either. I have bagels but that's not really good enough.

DP thinks I'm weird for having crisp sandwiches. He prefers to eat his sandwich then his crisps Shock he doesn't mix the two parts of a muller corner either so he's clearly a wrong'un and I should probably LTB Wink

HerRoyalNotness · 25/02/2017 20:38

I've just had ham, cheese, spinach and mayo and added chicken chips/crisps. So good!

Badcat666 · 25/02/2017 20:45

Pah! I see your crisp sandwich and raise you a sugar sarnie (white bread, butter and white granulated sugar) Grin oh those where the days of my youth....

Mature cheddar Cheese with ready salted crisps or even better, the ones from the salt and shake packets. (Again from my youth)

Also had a brannigans beef and mustard crisp sarnie with lettuce before Xmas, God that was lush!!

PeppaPigTastesLikeBacon · 25/02/2017 20:46

Wotsits with ham is DA BOMB

CEOD · 26/02/2017 14:27

Yuk, how disgusting! Where's the nutrition in that? Cardboard on cardboard, with a bit of fat thrown in for good measure. Where are the veg.? Would you give your kids this in their packed lunches?

Sounds like you need a crisp sammich.

You've obviously never had one. It truly is soul food.

GoofyIsACow · 26/02/2017 15:00

CEOD do you never just eat something because it's good? Instead of making sure everything is healthy and balanced?

Sometimes it's good to just go wild and shove crisps between two slices of bread... do it, you need it!

BarbaraofSeville · 26/02/2017 15:05

Food intake should be balanced overall, it is not necessary to eat vegetables at every meal, and if you do, it could be that your crisp intake is deficient Wink.

Crap like a crisp sarnie is good for the sole and not harmful as long as your diet is healthy overall.

itwillbegrandsure · 26/02/2017 15:33

@lateallthePies654 - Your response made me laugh out loud! My DP is looking at me like I've lost my marbles!

Half the reason why a crisp sandwich is so tasty is that it's totally lacking in nutrition. It's so bad it's good!

Every sandwich, irrespective of filling, is improved with the addition of Crisps

Yep from me too ^

zukiecat · 26/02/2017 15:49

Just No to a Crisp Sarnie

I know they're popular, but to me they're disgusting

I'm from NE Scotland and I'd never even heard of them until I met English XH

My DC agree with me that they're horrible!

venusinscorpio · 26/02/2017 15:53

I've no idea why someone would find crisps and bread and butter disgusting. Hardly the most out there combo is it?

StrawberrySquash · 26/02/2017 16:02

I'm sure Emma Freud had a crisp sandwich recipe in BBC Good Food magazine. It's a thing loads of people make.

zukiecat · 26/02/2017 17:23

venus

I don't do dairy either, so butter is disgusting to me as well

Not that keen on bread either, so that combination is definitely not for me

MotherofPearl · 26/02/2017 18:27

I'm afraid CEOD's post simply makes me want to rush downstairs and make myself a triple helping of crisp sandwich. Grin

CEOD · 26/02/2017 18:51

Zukiecat, I'm from NE Scotland too! We have the same reaction!

mygorgeousmilo · 26/02/2017 20:39

Oh CEOD you realllyyyy need a good samwidge. Let's start you off with a slab of white bread, proper butter, and some salt and vinegar McCoys....... you'll never look back.

Huldra · 26/02/2017 21:13

Extra mature cheddar and pickled onion Monster Munch.
