to think I'm not 'bonkers' for thinking I might be pregnant with twins?

This is my fourth pregnancy. With the first three I didn't truly believe I was pregnant until the scan as I didn't feel any symptoms at all. This time I tested early and a clearly visible line appeared within thirty seconds. I felt 'heavy' in my stomach within a week, totally went off food, feel completely sick and can't eat after 2pm, apologies for TMI but I have lots of discharge, a really dry mouth, I've gone up a dress size and look the same as I did at 4 months pregnant during my last pregnancy.

I've seen people looking but they've been too polite to ask. I've had lots of cramping and have been so tired I've had to pull over after driving for just ten minutes. All this and I'm only 9 weeks. I mentioned to my sister today that I'm worried it could be twins and she said I was bonkers and over dramatic and that it's just because I'm older than my last pregnancy and because all pregnancies are different. I agree the latter could well be the case but I was only last pregnant two years ago. I feel so very different and think twins could be the reason. AIBU to suspect it or am I being a drama queen?

Get checked for gestational diabetes. Its more common in later and older pregnancies and could cause some of these symptoms. I have regular diabetes and needed maternity clothes at seven weeks, was showing at eleven and at thirteen weeks the button flew off my maternity jeans...

The reason they generally don't do scans before 12 weeks is because of Vanishing Twin Syndrome. Apparently loads of pregnancies start off as twins, but one fetus gets re-absorbed back into the womb. So a scan showing twins at 6 weeks might not show twins at 12 weeks. And that's the reason first scans are usually at 12 weeks.

ChrisYoungFuckingRocks · 24/02/2017 20:25

Sorry OP, didn't mean that to scare you - I spent 6 weeks worrying about whether my twins were still going to be twins at 12 weeks, but I'd rather have the information than not. Hope all goes well Flowers.

LubiLooLoo · 24/02/2017 20:40

Please tell us when you find out for sure!!!

PacificDogwod · 24/02/2017 20:50

I was under the impression that dating scans are done around the 12 weeks mark because all foetuses measure roughly the same at that point and it makes for reliable dating of a pregnancy?

Hope all went well today x.

MiscellaneousAssortment · 24/02/2017 21:03

I hope you're ok OP

HollyJollyDillydolly · 24/02/2017 21:13

Bananasandchocolatecustard · 24/02/2017 22:06

Any news OP?

GladGran · 24/02/2017 22:37

You have discharge? That indicates an infection. Go to see your GP or Gynaecologist immediately. I had a discharge before having a stillborn baby at 35 weeks. Please do get it checked.

jessiefish · 24/02/2017 22:40

Sorry for being slow to update and thank you all so much for your well wishes.

They found one healthy baby and one empty sac. Feeling much more reassured now I've seen that little heart beating and so relieved all is well.

Don't be sorry - you've been busy and had a very exciting day. We are strangers on the internet and can wait.

I'm so glad you have a healthy little baby in there, good luck with the rest of your pregnancy and congratulations FlowersCake

PyongyangKipperbang · 24/02/2017 22:43

Oh bless you.

Be careful. Similar happened to me. I was pg with twins although I lost one rather than it being under developed and it was a very up and down time. Please do allow yourself time to be upset if you feel you want to be. I was constantly being told "Oh well at least you are still pg!" as if my lost baby hadnt mattered, but she did! It led to me being very poorly for quite a long time as I couldnt acknowledge her the way I wanted to.

Huge congratulations on your healthy baby Flowers

Applebite · 24/02/2017 22:44

Congratulations OP, really happy for you. Now you can relax and enjoy your weekend Grin

PacificDogwod · 24/02/2017 22:46

Aw, there you go - hope you are ok with that outcome.
You were right, and wrong...
Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy Thanks

LexieLulu · 24/02/2017 22:49

Good luck, I had really bad cramping second time and it worried me, but all was fine.

Let us know as soon as you have had your scan xx

GladGran · 24/02/2017 22:50

Delighted all seems well. Sorry if I seemed to be a bit over-anxious but losing a baby at any stage of pregnancy is never to be forgotten. All the very best for the rest of your pregnancy.

LexieLulu · 24/02/2017 22:51

Sorry I hadn't caught up to your comment about the scan, I thought I read it was Monday. Xx

Glad you had a good reassuring heart beat, sorry for the empty sac. Lots of love xx

MiscellaneousAssortment · 24/02/2017 23:15

How are you feeling about that OP? Mixed news and you could be taking it a thousand different ways, all right and all justifiable. Take your time to look after your feelings, as well as your body. Flowers Football
