To ask how much your hairdresser charges?

I'm in the market for a new hairdresser following a house move, I have a full head of highlights and a cut and blow dry, my old hairdresser used to charge £70 (Yorkshire), I've phoned a few in my new area and they're charging nearer £100. Is this normal?

Also if you live in Leeds, please recommend me your salon!

South Cheshire - £110 for full head highlights, cut and blow dry.

There's a great salon in Meanwood that will do the same for £78.

SurlyValentine · 22/02/2017 14:37

£58 for full head of foil highlights with two colours, cut and blow. South Manchester.

I lived in Leeds years ago and used to go to Vidal Sassoon on the student days - do they still do them? Used to cost half the usual price because a student was doing your hair, but they were so closely supervised that a fully trained hairdresser might as well have been doing it. They would try and talk you into having something wildly different from what you'd asked for, just so they could practice their skills I presume, so you needed to stand your ground a bit, but it was well worth it.

If you're in the Wharefedale/ Airdale area I can recommend Liz at Boutique Hair in Yeadon. £31 for a cut and blow dry.

Try your nearest beauty college. They should offer all the usual treatments you'd find in a salon for a fraction of the price. Also check on local Facebook selling pages, they often have trainee hairdressers ask for models to have a free cut/colour, but it's normally at a set time and a specific type of length/style so it can be assessed for their course.
All the work is supervised by experienced hairdressers who will finish your hair if needs be so it's not such a huge gamble!!

CorporalNobbyNobbs · 22/02/2017 15:25

Jaysus your hairs are all so cheap!!

Mine is £84.50 and I thought it was a good deal. Full Colour cut and blow dry. NI.

MissCalamity · 22/02/2017 15:27

South Manchester £40-£45 for half-full head two colour highlights plus cut & blow dry.
I don't think my hair would ever get done judging by some of these other prices!

EssentialHummus · 22/02/2017 15:28

London, £70 for a curly hair specialist to come to my house (!) and cut/blow my hair. I've previously paid between £50 and £200 for someone who knows what they are doing with curly hair. There is no correlation between price and quality.

Mulberry72 · 22/02/2017 15:30

I had my hair done last week, full head highlights, toner, cut and finish costing £113. I have the executive stylist who is the second highest qualified after the manager so that reflects price

I can't believe how the price varies so much, it's understandable that a mobile one would be cheaper as less overheads but I would expect all salons to be similar. A lot of the city centre ones here are all "award winning" or trained by Vidal Sassoon and such like which obviously bumps up the price.
