Cozie yes, boredom, that's an issue with every toddler. Problem with him though is he has bigger toys to throw around.

Hopefully, that's when those supposed 'checks and balances' appear to stop him first.

AcrossthePond55 · 23/02/2017 01:05

Hey Cozie. We're fine. The weather is 'missing' us today, although as I type this I can hear the wind coming up! And the sky is that weird colour that usually means thunder and funnel clouds.

I've been pretty 'out of the loop' today. Got a new cooker and have been busy setting up things in the kitchen. It's about time, though. My old cooker was built before 1920 AND actually had a section to burn wood!

TheClaws · 23/02/2017 01:19

Thinking of you Across. I've been cut off by floodwaters for a week or so before - power cut off too. It was a wonderful lesson on how great modern conveniences are, but how handy it is to have things like a barbecue, generator, water tank, cartons of long-life milk, torches, candles (yes, we didn't have any) and LOTS of standby toilet paper. CussingQuim · 23/02/2017 07:00

I don't think even Trump would casually nuke another nation. But there are 10 billion other ways of being destructive - like saying "x is a no go area".

Sweden can survive that because it's well known but other places might not.

CussingQuim · 23/02/2017 07:12

Has this been posted yet? Sorry if repeating - why if Trump is impeached it might be the end of America.

I think it's a bit "doom and gloom" (can't really see all farmers just randomly striking and presumably starving to death?) but thought it was interesting about insights into Trump fan's views of the media.

woman12345 · 23/02/2017 07:25

CussingQuim thanks, really interesting piece. Be careful what you wish for, Khmer Rouge tactics very recognisable in US and Britain.

saffronwblue · 23/02/2017 07:33

That was interesting Cussing. Not sure about farmers self sabotaging like that. I do agree that most Trump supporters are just not that bothered about Russian involvement and don't see it as that smoking of a gun. He can spin it that he made a great deal with US former enemy to MAGA and get rid of Hillary. That may be why he keeps banging on about Hillary and the election.

This is a make up company asking customers to sign an anti fascist pledge before they buy their products! Genuine, or marketing ploy?

Interesting links thank you.

God he is a manchild isn't he... [http://www.politico.com/story/2017/02/trump-twitter-staffer-235263 here]]

"President Donald Trump’s former campaign staffers claim they cracked the code for tamping down his most inflammatory tweets, and they say the current West Wing staff would do well to take note.

The key to keeping Trump’s Twitter habit under control, according to six former campaign officials, is to ensure that his personal media consumption includes a steady stream of praise. And when no such praise was to be found, staff would turn to friendly outlets to drum some up — and make sure it made its way to Trump’s desk

The in-person touch is also important to keeping Trump from running too hot. One Trump associate said it’s important to show Trump deference and offer him praise and respect, as that will lead him to more often listen. And if Trump becomes obsessed with a grudge, aides need to try and change the subject, friends say. Leaving him alone for several hours can prove damaging, because he consumes too much television and gripes to people outside the White House"

So his aides have to work at telling him and find proof of what a clever boy he is... it must be exhausting to work alongside him and surely all this ego stroking gets in the way of the job in hand? He's far more pathetic and thin skinned and ego driven than I could ever have imagined

amispartacus · 23/02/2017 07:44

Looks like Trump is battling his own views with Republican views - and is having to compromise on his beliefs.

www.nytimes.com/2017/02/22/us/politics/devos-sessions-transgender-students-rights.html

Seems to have been a battle with Devos vs Sessions on this.

"But Ms. DeVos initially resisted signing off and told Mr. Trump that she was uncomfortable because of the potential harm that rescinding the protections could cause transgender students, according to three Republicans with direct knowledge of the internal discussions.

Photo

Betsy DeVos, the education secretary, initially resisted signing off on the order and told President Trump that she was uncomfortable with it.

Mr. Sessions, who has opposed expanding gay, lesbian and transgender rights, pushed Ms. DeVos to relent. After getting nowhere, he took his objections to the White House because he could not go forward without her consent. Mr. Trump sided with his attorney general, the Republicans said, and told Ms. DeVos in a meeting in the Oval Office on Tuesday that he wanted her to drop her opposition. And Ms. DeVos, faced with the alternative of resigning or defying the president, agreed to go along"

Within the administration, it also threatened to become another distraction for Mr. Trump after a tumultuous first month in office. And it showed how Mr. Trump, who has taken a more permissive stance on gay rights and same-sex marriage than many of his fellow Republicans, is bowing to pressure from the religious right and contradicting his own personal views

A Faustian pact? They turn a blind eye to things he does that they don't like and he turns a blind eye to things they want that clash with his own personal views.

Can you imagine being married to him?

Roussette · 23/02/2017 08:05

ami god yes or should I mean no. I have no sympathy with Melania whatsoever I'm afraid. I wish the woman no ill, but she will have known exactly what he was like before she married him. A bilious, passive aggressive narcissist. I think she wanted the lifestyle and now it's come back and bitten her on the arse with him becoming POTUS.

Sweden can survive that because it's well known but other places might not.

Hmm. How much is the world economically dependent of the US and for how long?

China and India and Russia will be happy to take over. So will the EU, if it survives.

India is taking the space race seriously at a fraction of the cost.

And US companies will find indirect ways of investing in no go areas.

Trump can keep the US in the lead or make it a secondary power.

woman12345 · 23/02/2017 08:29

I agree Lweji While the west is hooked on trying to counter racial demographics, the east will re emerge. Russia is such a tiny economy that it can only gain power through aggression.

merrymouse · 23/02/2017 08:32

I think Trump will just erode the western alliances that have existed since the Second World War.

The U.K. And the EU are going to spend the next few years bickering and it's very doubtful that anybody in Europe trusts Trump (certainly not the UK government, whatever they say).

Dumdedumdedum · 23/02/2017 08:32

SanFranBear - when you say: "They used Obama's proposed changes to gun laws following Sandy Hook as the clear example - he was so passionate for change, Biden was perfectly placed to lead it and yet completely stonewalled and nothing changed." - my understanding was that it was the Republican dominated Congress which did the blocking, surely the situation is different now as there are not enough Democrats in opposition to block #45 unless the power hungry Republicans join them? If that makes sense?
I'm sorry about Sandy Hook and your personal interest in it. Flowers

Also good to see comedians starting to make honour about one or two things not related to US disgovernment.

Destinysdaughter · 23/02/2017 08:34

That article was so interesting, especially about the millions of pp who read these far right websites not the MSM. Explains a lot! What I found most worrying was this;

"We’re approaching a dangerous state where the truth is only what the most people believe."

Lweji · 23/02/2017 08:38

The U.K. And the EU are going to spend the next few years bickering

Which is why the EU is only too happy to sideline the UK asap.

Once the main round of elections is over the EU can emerge stronger or weaker. We'll see.
