I received a parcel this morning delivered by a delivery service not royal mail. Some of my items were missing so obviously I immediately contacted the place where I purchased from and they said that it looks as though they've left there depo so must have been lost during transit. Before they can refund they have to investigate the delivery driver, which means informing him that I have raised a dispute and interviewing him.
AIBU in thinking that this could potentially compromise my safety if the driver reacts badly to essentially being accused of tampering with my parcel at worst or losing my products at best?
I appreciate that he's probably a normal human being that won't wage a personal vendetta against me but still. I don't like the thought of him knowing.. he might deliver to me again and I'd feel very uncomfortable.

How else are they supposed to investigate it if they can't tell the driver the situation?

YABU, they are supposed to investigate, and they have to hear what the delivery person says.

If you're a delivery driver then you'll know that the company policy is to investigate in this way. They've probably done so many deliveries today they won't even remember you!

You're massively over thinking.

If you don't have the parcels you should have then tell them. The delivery driver won't think anything of it unless he has actually stolen anything, which is unlikely.

I think in this circumstance they should just trust the customer and refund the missing products?

You've not received all of your stuff and they're finding out why.

Your language in your OP sounds a little over reactive , why would be wage a vendetta against you or why would your personal safety be compromised?

Investigating makes it sound way more full on than what happens.

If you've got a busy run about twice a week you get a message asking if the parcel you delivered to x address on y date was definitely delivered and undamaged.

That's pretty much it tbh.

I have had an "investigation" once, we ordered a laptop to be delivered and it went missing. Someone from the delivery company came by one evening to ask us if we were sure we didn't receive the parcel (answer was yes), and that was it. Not threatening at all.

Maybe it gives a way to check that it is not the same customer or the same delivery person who are claiming lost items repeatedly.

I had a similar incident with Yodel. I ordered an item and the tracking never made it out of their depot. When I called the retailer, they raised the issue with yodel who then sent their driver to my house to find out what I had done with the missing parcel! I had to show them the tracking info, and the driver admitted that she'd not delivered a parcel to me in the questioned time frame. I was eventually refunded, but felt quite sick that yodel deemed it fine to send people to my house and question me about their screw up.

Cold that's awful!

I had an issue with Amazon (CD showing as delivered but not actually delivered). Apparently the driver swore blind that he had tried to deliver twice on a certain afternoon when we were home and nobody had turned up. Amazon were very apologetic, they never questioned our version of events and sent an extra CD that we received soon after. The day after that the original CD turned up - the envelope was covered in muddy boot prints and the CD was damaged.

Hopefully you will be refunded soon OP.

I actually did have this with Royal Mail. A parcel went missing and various postmen kept coming and discussing it with me. One said the accidental recipient was looking it out and i said "ok as long as he is' and he took offence to this and was grumpy. And glowered at me when he made a delivery to my office too. It was really unprofessional.

Hopefully this is NOT the norm but its not weird to think about it.

And pr5ople saying you are unhinged are just rude.

I'm not sure I'm comfortable with them sharing my details again and identifying me as the one raising the dispute.
I don't know him. I don't know how he would feel if he's accused of tampering with or stealing the products.

In an investigation, he won't be 'accused'. He'll be asked 'about' it. These things are usually done in a professional, objective way without emotion, drama, assumptions or jumping to conclusions.

They get loads of disputes through, fot things that just aren't there, things that are delivered to the wrong address, people that don't read the card and are looking in the wrong place and other household members who take delivery and stick it somewhere out of the way and forget to tell anyone.

It's no big deal.

99% is a really really good compliance rate, (95% still gets you bonuses) but at nearly 200 parcels a day, that's still 2 a day being disputed.

The delivery person won't care.
