Lorelai Gilmore is such a bitch! *SPOILERS*

On maternity leave. I may have binge watched 6 series of Gilmore Girls Blush (whilst also doing mindless prep for baby tasks, laundry, knitting, batch cooking etc, don't judge me!).

She is controlling and hypocritical as displays many of the characteristics of her parents who she claims to dislike so much, self centred, a show and treats men abominably! I find myself disliking her more and more with every episode (just hitting the bit where she cheats on Luke) Angry

I need to issue you with a very strong warning...

Watching GG while on maternity leave can have lasting affects on you and your baby!!

I may or may not have a daughter named Lorelei Blush

Msqueen33 · 21/02/2017 12:20

I love Lauren Graham and hate that women feel pressured to look a certain way. I brought Netflix in part for the next season but was quite disappointed. Loved Emily. Missed Sookie.

user1487175389 · 21/02/2017 12:26

I think overall Sookie rules. She's generally a sweetheart but gives as good as she gets when it comes to most people. She could have done with standing up to Jackson a bit more and Lorelai a lot more though.

dylsmimi · 21/02/2017 12:34

opal i am a bit jealous! I wanted that for ds2 and 3 after watching on first maternity leave - then had boys Sad Grin
What do you use as a nickname if any? I would have used lolly as Rory didn't seem to fit tk me

PaulAnkaTheDog · 21/02/2017 12:36

Love Gilmore Girls, hate the two lead characters.

OpalIridescence · 21/02/2017 12:43

dylsmimi
I do love it but it is a definite Marmite name

People either love it or do that scrunchy face 'oh thats unusual ' comment Grin

We obviously have similar tastes, Rory was never right to me either, she is indeed known as Lolly!

Kennington · 21/02/2017 12:53

They are all great flawed characters who make mistakes. Rory was spoiled hence her behaviour as an adult.
Lorelai also got pg young. The characters are better for being interesting and different.

Loopyloo80 · 21/02/2017 12:54

opal I love that you named your daughter Lorelai! Lolly is so sweet.

(Though I am a huge GG fan and love the show, one last gripe - I had to fast forward through the whole musical in the revival episodes. Hated that musical. Wish they'd used that time on the characters instead!!)

CorporalNobbyNobbs · 21/02/2017 12:55

Re Jess - I think he was awful when they were teenagers but he was nice once they were 21 and met up in Season 6 or whenever. And he was lovely in the reboot. He actually developed from being a stroppy moody teen to a nice enough 21 year old - setting up his publishing thing and trying to pay Luke back the money he owed him etc. Too good for Rory at this stage so I'm not sure I'm even TeamJess now!!

OpalIridescence · 21/02/2017 13:17

Thank you loopy!

My daughter does suit the name and she is saying it herself now (ok her version is lolali) I think it is always lovely when they start to say their own name.

The strangest reaction I ever had was one mom berating me as the name had too many vowels in it! I was like this Shock looking after her thinking.. but your son is called Louis!!!!!

Any way my love affair with GG was very intense during maternity leave but I have not watched it since. Think Rory had gone off to college when I stopped, perhaps I will pick it up again now!

BankWadger · 21/02/2017 15:45

Opal do you live in Central Scotland?

OpalIridescence · 21/02/2017 16:24

bankwadger nope in England, why do you ask?

OpalIridescence · 21/02/2017 16:54

Louie not Louis..

BankWadger · 21/02/2017 17:56

I know someone with a daughter called Lorelai after GGs Grin

OpalIridescence · 21/02/2017 18:23

Ha, I expect there are a few of us around!

I would quite like it if it became a little more popular, never mind having to spell it out repeatedly I often have to explain that, yes, it is really a name and no, I didn't make it up! ConfusedGrin

intheknickersoftime · 21/02/2017 19:13

I watched it several times when it was on E4 when my kids were younger and I loved it. I loved Lorelei. I loved the spiky relationship she had with her mother. I've not seen the recent episodes but I just can't fault it. Lorelei is immature but you can see she just wants attention off her mother. It's a pattern she was never able to break and when Rory went off to do her thing at the end it was so bittersweet. She was left with nothing emotionally. I really thought it was too class telly.

intheknickersoftime · 21/02/2017 19:13

Top class

user1487175389 · 22/02/2017 07:21

Why does everyone love Mrs Kim? She's the most controlling mother in the show. She squashes the life and individuality out of her bright, quirky daughter. She doesn't care who Lane really is, she just wants an obedient lapdog to fulfil her personal expectations. Lane rocks. Mrs Kim really doesn't.

Loopyloo80 · 22/02/2017 08:51

I agree, user. I was so disappointed when Lane pretty much turned unto her in the revival (minus the want to control her twins). I loved Lane! She was the coolest kid!

amusedbush · 22/02/2017 09:01

Why does everyone love Mrs Kim?

She softens later in the show. She explains that she worries about Lane and wants to keep her safe, so does that the only way she knows how.

Summerisdone · 22/02/2017 09:08

Lorelia is my favourite character, I love that she has flaws and she never claims to be perfect. Rory can sometimes be a bit irritating and often thinks she is better than others which pisses me off at times. I rewatched the whole series at summer to gear myself up for the new one and I found I still loved Lorelai as much now as I did the first time round.
I am always surprised that very few people like Logan, he seems to be most people's least favourite boyfriend of Rory's but he was always my fave and I so wish they ended up together.

amusedbush · 22/02/2017 09:10

Summerisdone

I love Logan, he's always been my favourite!

MoonriseKingdom · 22/02/2017 09:30

Wondering what people like about Logan? I still have the last 2 series to watch so maybe he comes good. I think I find that him and his rich mates remind me far too much of a rather obnoxious public school crowd I was at university with (certainly not implying all public school/ rich kids are like that). They are the American equivalent of The Bullingdon Club. I much preferred Marty - the nice bloke from a more ordinary background that Rory didn't want to be more than friends with.

MoonriseKingdom · 22/02/2017 09:35

Paris is also a rich kid but she appreciates the expensive and exclusive education she has been given. I think she also wins awards for worst parents. I'd rather have Mrs Kim as a mum than Paris's parents.

user1487175389 · 22/02/2017 09:46

OK I'll admit I'm only a little more than halfway through, but surely 'we only want to keep you safe' is the mantra of every controlling parent of a teenager ever? Certainly worked for my parents.

Paris did seem to have a horrible, if materially rich, start in life. What broke my heart was her high school graduation where she was so thrilled her nanny and nanny's kids (grandkids) had made it. Then at the start of the next season when she got to Yale and told Rory she'd 'lost her nanny' (eg her nanny had found a better job) and so she'd hired a life coach. Sad
