Was this woman unreasonable to shout at my daughter?

I was swimming with DD (18 months) and she was excited and shouting a bit and splashing.

A woman kept giving her daggers and tutting whenever she swam past and saying "too many children." Then when she got splashed shouted at DD "and you can just stop that!"

AIBU to think you don't shout at babies?

I suppose it depends where you wereswimming and whether there were lanes she could have swum in. Speaking politely would have been better than shouting in any case! :)

She (a) should not go swimming at half term during general sessions, and (b) should learn some manners of her own, considering she thinks its okay to tut and generally act rudely.

Unless it's idiots pissing around in lanes or being severely disruptive then it takes some kind of twat to get upset at water being splashed in a fucking swimming pool, especially by a little kid. Kids! In a pool! At the weekend! Perish the thought Hmm If she's that precious she can find a very early morning or late night or daytime adults only slot.

She's 18 months old.. who the hell shouts at an 18 month old for splashing in a swimming pool? I'd have drowned her told the woman where to go.

Yanbu - she a tot and it's a public swimming pool. She sounds like a crotchety bugger.

She was an idiot, it was clearly a children's swimming session. Luckily the other parents were tutting right back at her :)

Yanbu. An older child she wouldn't be unreasonable to ask to stop splashing her, but not an 18month old baby at a family session.

She might have been my next door neighbour who memorably told her sons to stop splashing in their paddling pool!

Perhaps she had mental health issues? It sounds very unreasonable. I can't ABIDE getting splashed so I just don't go in swimming pools because of course, children splash! That's normal.

I was going to say she needs to bugger off but...was it in a members only pool or a hotel spa pool? If so then I'm sitting on the fence on this one.

Nope, only the one pool. I'd have used the children's pool if there had been one as they tend to be so lovely and warm!

Splashing is inevitable in a swimming pool, FGS.
She really expected an 18 month old baby to be sensitive to the fact that she didn't like getting splashed.

YANBU. That's just shocking! Who the hell shouts at a toddler for splashing in a swimming pool. It's what babies and little children DO in water! And if she was trying to have a proper swim during a children's session than that's what's going to happen.

Did she expect your 18month old child to discuss the matter with her? Have a look at the thread here tonight on the 6 year old who opened his car door without thinking - I reckon it was the same woman both times. Fuckwits. Of course YANBU. Nor is your DD.
