cozie most of us are pinning our hopes on 2018. It's the only way to do anything, absent Trump committed a truly felonious act or becoming truly insane, and I think he's been skating on the right edge of illegality and insanity for most of his business career so that's probably not going to happen. Rank stupidity and his big mouth won't be enough to get him impeached. If GW Bush didn't get impeached over fake WMDs getting us into an armed conflict in Iraq, it won't get Trump impeached if he does something similar in Syria or Iran. Plus the triumvirate (Bannon, Pence, & Tillerson) need to keep him where he is so they can continue to move behind the scenes whilst the world is looking at Trump and saying 'What the hell??!'.

GOP candidates are responsive to the majority of their constituents, period. I live in a 'red' Congressional District here in CA and I guarantee that our Representative doesn't give a rat's ass what we think because, right now, our district is staunchly 'conservative' with Reps and conservative third party voters outnumbering Dems and liberal third party voters 2 to 1. BUT, if there was a massive influx of residents that flipped those numbers, I guarantee you he'd start backpedaling on his stances on issues faster than you can shake a snake (an apropos analogy to say the least). For us, it's all going to be about getting out the vote. Registering unregistered voters, carpools to be sure they get to the polls, phone banks, rallies. The things that the GOP just did so successfully.

We almost returned a Dem to Congress in 2008, we missed it by 1200 votes. We just need a good moderate candidate who can appeal Democrats and undecided, but also to a good number of disaffected GOP voters.

Think I'm thinking about 2018, much? Grin

My statement as to what's happening in Sweden was in reference to a story that was broadcast on @FoxNews concerning immigrants & Sweden.

.@realDonaldTrump Then perhaps you should start paying attention to your intelligence briefs instead of watching @FoxNews?

The things that the GOP just did so successfully
And you did so successfully in 2008 and 2012, back to work.Smile Same work to do here, although Labour party is in teeny weeny pieces.

cozietoesie · 19/02/2017 22:06

PS - thought of standing, Across? Smile

amispartacus · 19/02/2017 22:08

Do you really think Trump wrote that tweet?

Lweji · 19/02/2017 22:11

Was that the best they could get?
I bet he's spent most of his day looking for a better story.

It didn't help that the Swedish government got involved.

CaveMum · 19/02/2017 22:11

That's not his syntax.

cozietoesie · 19/02/2017 22:14

He copied a draft. Smile

Will Sweden summon the US Ambassador?

He's massively fucked up and has fucked up with a Western democracy.

cozietoesie · 19/02/2017 22:23

It's worse than that, ami. Sweden is a monarchy, albeit constitutional. Monarchs rank - they're the only ones who do. Wink

NotDavidTennant · 19/02/2017 22:23

He's massively fucked up and has fucked up with a Western democracy.

It makes no odds. He won't care. His supporters won't care.

Roussette · 19/02/2017 22:25

It's hardly surprising given that he gets his information off of cable news channels

AcrossthePond55 · 19/02/2017 22:25

Thought about it cozie, but unfortunately diplomacy is not my strong suit. I'd be more likely to stand up in the House and shout "Get tae fuck, bawbags!" (my new favourite phrase) than to politely wait to be recognized by the Speaker and begin a speech with '"My esteemed colleagues, I must express my dismay....". Grin

No, I'm much more effective working to destabilize behind the scenes.

woman12345 · 19/02/2017 22:28

"Get tae fuck, bawbags!" I think that could work. across

I know Nigel Farage likes to quote things that are dubious and often found in the likes of the Daily Express - but this is the fucking President of the USA doing this.

I just can't get my head around what's happened in the USA. I can't get my head around the fact that few people in the USA - such as politicians, respected academics, sports stars, actors, ex Presidents - people who many others will listen to are not simply saying WTF.

I would love to know what the thinking is over there at the moment.

On a lighter note, how is Kellyann doing?

She looked tired last week

amispartacus · 19/02/2017 22:31

Tomorrow Parliament is discussing the petitition.

I wonder what speeches will be made?

Westminster Hall
4.30 pm

Westminster Hall debate

E-petitions 171928 and 178844 relating to a state visit by President Donald Trump - Paul Flynn

Should be interesting...

It's really astounding that the US president is actually admitting relying on a fecking cable news channel for his information. And fecking Fox as well. It really is like living in the twilight zone. John Oliver has the right idea with the ads they bought which run during his 'favourite' programmes. I would not be surprised if each government dept trying to get his attention starts using the same tactic.

5 minute reels with colourful pictures & easy to follow diagrams. With 1 syllable words only where absolutely necessary.

cozietoesie · 19/02/2017 22:32

NotDavid

I doubt he cares what his supporters think as long as his perceived ratings are OK. Smile

cozietoesie · 19/02/2017 22:34

I reckon she'll be sidelined soon enough, Nevertheless. Smile

PlectrumElectrum · 19/02/2017 22:34

I never thought I'd say this but I'm setting a reminder to watch BBC parliament channel tomorrow. I can't miss this!

Neverthelessshepersisted · 19/02/2017 22:37

Can anyone link to a moderate* pro trump site so I can study his supporters at leisure?
