AIBU when out with my pushchair

To want to ram it into the ankles of anyone in front of me who walks really slow/ stops/ or cuts across me?

OP posts:
sabzii · 17/02/2017 14:34

I've accidentally pranged a few ankles with mine! I walk quickly and people can suddenly slow/stop/step into path before I can avoid them.

Actually I think it's really selfish to walk down the middle part of the street/precinct/bus station if you walk slowly. You're obstructing others! When I feel like a slow stroll I keep to one side, leaving the rest of the street clear for people to pass.

Society seems to assume that pushchair=slow but plenty of mums are rushing to appointments/nursery/buses/trains and modern prams are built to be light and fast.

I say sorry when I prang someone but TBH I don't care that much if they've barged in front of me.

barinatxe · 17/02/2017 14:39

If you ram someone from behind isn't there a danger that they will fall into the pushchair and injure both themselves and the child?

I think if someone rammed my ankles I'd probably block them more. It's quite good fun tbh.

sabzii · 17/02/2017 14:42

Oh and I'm always careful around someone who looks frail.

But seriously, why do people thoughtlessly block the street instead of keeping to one side? When I have my toddler on reins I'm very slow and always keep to the side out of everyone's way. Particularly near bus stops, train station etc when people are hurrying.

I imagine people in wheelchairs or using mobility scooters must find it frustrating to be stuck behind slow moving people, who don't make room for them to pass.

AwaywiththePixies27 · 17/02/2017 14:53

dustarr73 I know I've read the thread thankyou. Several other people are admitting to doing so though.

If they are happy enough to admit to doing it they shouldn't be suprised when people call them out on their twatty behaviour.

AwaywiththePixies27 · 17/02/2017 14:56

People with buggies are the most irritating pedestrians of all. Well, second maybe to people on scooters.

Not necessarily. The most irritating pedestrians are the ones that simply have no regard for other people around them. Not all of them have prams in front of them.

It's called manners. Many people seem to have lost them along the way.

AwaywiththePixies27 · 17/02/2017 14:58

Oh and I'm always careful around someone who looks frail.

How do you determine who is frail just by looking at them? My 80 year old Grandma does her own shopping etc. She doesn't look frail. She still fell last month and hurt herself badly.

Dawndonnaagain · 17/02/2017 15:18

Oh and I'm always careful around someone who looks frail.
20 year old dd doesn't look frail. She is very frail and you're knocking into her may dislocate, or break her ankle.
Her 20 year old twin is not bothered about people holding up her up when she uses her wheelchair, she has more consideration for others.

sabzii · 17/02/2017 15:29

I meant I take extra care in areas where there are lots of elderly people, small children or people using mobility aids. I slow down and anticipate I may need to stop suddenly. I appreciate there are people with invisible disabilities who may injure more easily, but sometimes it's impossible to avoid pranging someone if they step in front of you.

I disagree people with prams must travel slowly at all times, just in case someone steps into their path/slows down/stops. Everyone needs to be considerate, and that means not blocking the street. Keep to one side so prams/mobility scooters/wheelchairs have space to pass.

NootNoot · 17/02/2017 16:37

Its a 2 way thing- nobody is more entitled to speed or space than anyone else & manners go a long way.
It's poor form to dawdle blocking the place up, but its poor form to bash past everyone in a rush

That said the two SW19 mummies with their battle axe buggies who knocked me into the side of a parked car rather than just walk one behind the other for 5 paces, cheers for that. (angry)

Life would be so much easier of everyone had basic manners!

SuperFlyHigh · 17/02/2017 17:53

NootNoot that's hilarious about SW19! I used to work there and had the self same problems with mums with buggies (especially in the short stretch of pavement inbetween the Alexandra pub and the Argos!

I recall a few years ago I even posted about double buggies users there (would sometimes get two of them going four abreast!) who were very rude and would glare if you tried to pass or were quite aggressive. These were also "naice" mummies and I sometimes think that the "naicer" woman/mummy type can have the worst kind of arrogance and entitlement I've ever experienced in my entire life! Grin hides

NoBetterName · 18/02/2017 11:42

Maybe we need adverts on the telly, like the motorbike ones : "Think pushchair"

What a ridiculous comment. Are pushchair owners in danger of being killed by inattentive motorists any more than any other pedestrian?

Wow. How to minimize the dangers posed to bikers by drivers every single day. That's why there is a need for those adverts. (This may be a sensitive subject as I'm currently stuck at home recuperating after being knocked off my bike by a car driver who pulled straight out of a junction. At least though I survived to be able to sit at home. Another time, I may not have been so lucky).

CaraAspen · 18/02/2017 11:47

You bought the pram-tank not the pavement. So stop behaving as if you have the right to ram other people.

NotYoda · 18/02/2017 11:48

If you read the thread, you'd see that had been covered. It was intended satirically, in the context of all my other posts on this thread

Obviously I'm sorry that you had an accident.

CaraAspen · 18/02/2017 11:50

The thread may have been intended as lighthearted but there are clearly lots of people who are fed up of the selfishness of the pram brigade - judging by some of the posts.

NoBetterName · 18/02/2017 12:00

Not Yoda, it wasn't accidental, it was a collision caused by a dangerous driver and he and his type are the reason those adverts are necessary. Sorry, but some things are inappropriate to joke about.

And yes, I did read the other poster's comment about it, but you clearly don't understand the necessity of the ads or the seriousness of their message. If you did, you wouldn't find it something to joke about.

SumThucker · 18/02/2017 12:01

Pram brigade... ConfusedHmm

I can see why it's annoying, out of order to actually hit someone though.

NotYoda · 18/02/2017 12:03

I disagree. But I am still sorry you were the victim of dangerous driving.

NotYoda · 18/02/2017 12:03

that was to NoBetter ^^

NoBetterName · 18/02/2017 12:06

Well I guess there will always be some twats who think making people aware of more vulnerable individuals is trivial.

RachelRagged · 18/02/2017 12:06

Nice !!

The one who intends to ram people when she has her baby . Grow Up and learn consideration for others .

What gets me is those who are pushing their tank buggy, mobile phone cradled on their shoulder and talking in it whilst steering their buggy erratically !! Or worse, those who push it along whilst texting ..

NotYoda · 18/02/2017 12:06

''but you clearly don't understand the necessity of the ads or the seriousness of their message. If you did, you wouldn't find it something to joke about"

That's the part I disagree with.

NotYoda · 18/02/2017 12:14

X posted.

If you are calling me a twat, call me a twat. All this "there are always some people" followed by a ridiculous statement that completely misrepresents me and what I've said is just passive aggressive. I came on this thread precisely because I think that we should all try and look for other people on the road, the pavement etc.

So if you still think that's twatty, then call me a twat
