To Fucking hate periods and contraception and my GP and all this womanly bullshit.

I am 2 weeks in to my period (yes, 2 Fucking weeks of bleeding) and it shows no sign of stopping.

I've been down this road before and I'm fairly confident that it's due to my contraceptive pill.

Trouble is, I've tried pretty much every contraceptive available and none of them work!

I've got pregnant twice using microgynon,
The injection and the patches made me bleed constantly,
Had a Mirena coil which caused me lots of pain, and other sexual issues,
I have some sensory issues and HATE condoms. Honestly, the feel and smell of them makes my skin crawl.
I don't like the idea of rhythm method as I had hypermesis in my last pregnancy so I know I couldn't cope with a surprise pregnancy.

I need a GP appointment, to at least get some advice spiralling this nonsense, but our surgery is the sort where you phone on the day and despite phoning for 3 days, there haven't been any left.

So, wibu to whip out my entire reproductive system and I dunno, just throw it out the window?

Lots more to think about here,

Vasectomy is definitely out for now, and could the posters still telling me to withhold sex until dp concedes please stop now. I want sex. And I'd never be in a relationship where it was acceptable to blackmail each other into surgery.

I had a mirena coil, it migrated, was very painful and eventually came out of its own accord, with a lot of tissue attached. I don't know if a copper coil would do this necessarily but I'm not sure I'm willing to take the chances.

Wrt condoms, it's one of a few sensory issues I have, including seams on clothes, labels and a few other plastic things, most of them don't cause me too much trouble day to day but urghhh just thinking about handling condoms, let alone having one inside me leaves me cold. I suppose long term, therapy of some sort would be good, but it doesn't really solve my problem now.

Will try a diaphragm and if that doesn't work then keep pushing for sterilisation I think. I can't honestly say I wouldn't want another baby in the future, but the risks of hypermesis are too high, I never want to go through that again.

In a similar situation I paid for a private gynae appt (£150 and worth it) to get the information I needed. I then wrote to my GP telling them what I wanted and saying I was happy to approach the CCG if necessary.

The GP immediately referred me to my desired option. I am allergic to ingested hormones, so my problem is even more limiting! I was sorted within two months of my letter which was factual about the issues and clear on the outcome I wanted. And I didn't even need an appointment!

kali110 · 17/02/2017 03:14

What about tablets to stop the bleeding/reduce it every month? Not sure if the gp will consider that?

Araminta99 · 17/02/2017 08:38

He should get a vasectomy. So easy and not at all comparable to female sterilisation. What a wuss!

VikingVolva · 17/02/2017 09:11

Wuss?

For not wanting to run a 10% risk of life-long untreatable bollock pain?

And whatever happened to the principles of bodily autonomy?

ToastyFingers · 17/02/2017 09:57

I know, right?
He's not a wuss, what a horrible degrading word, like he's less of a man somehow. Wuss, Sissy, little bitch.
Withdraw sex until you get what you want.

I thought that in a loving, respectful relationship, no-one forced the other into anything. Let alone a risky medical procedure.

As an aside, after 17 long days, my period has finally fucked off. Roll on the weekend Wink

Glad to hear that op!
Good on you for not trying to blackmail him either, really can't understand why people thought this was ok Confused
Can you ask your doctor for Norethisterone? I use it if i happen to get a period as medication makes them extremely heavy and lasts for days. Theses actually stopped it.

dingdongthewitchisdead1 · 17/02/2017 18:59

I felt the same about the rhythm method, but I've been using it for a year now and I can't recommend it enough! No chemicals in your system. Improved mood, improved skin, libido has gone up.. it was a great decision! I use an app designed for those ttc and it highlights fertile days.. I just use it in reverse lol!

MrsLupo · 17/02/2017 19:22

Cerazette commonly has the same side effect profile, OP, so proceed with caution if you just change pill. Norethisterone can also cause side effects like insomnia and mood problems and is not for taking long term imo. In your shoes, I think I'd be looking at the copper coil. But yes, try again re sterilisation with a different GP if you are 100% sure.

Are you on the autistic spectrum, OP? Issues with the feel of clothes, seams, labels and other sensory inputs are common. Just a thought, and not that relevant to your thread, but maybe of use or interest.

Grumpbum · 17/02/2017 19:33

I'm on medication that is 100% contraindicated with pregnancy.
I've stopped the pill as it made me feel like shit.
Currently using abstinence which is not ideal.
My H doesn't want a vasectomy and I totally respect that, I'm going to ask for sterilisation as soon as I get up together to get an appointment

ToastyFingers · 17/02/2017 20:13

@MrsLupo I'm not on the spectrum, the sensory issues stem from a bout of anxiety and depression I suffered at about 13. Funnily enough, I've done quite a lot of research about ASD as I suspect dd1 is on the spectrum, albeit mildly, and one of my best mates growing up has aspergers.

@kali110 I've taken norethisterone before to delay a period, it worked, so that's a good idea, obviously I know it doesn't act as a contraceptive but it would be handy not to bleed like a stuck pig for 17 days of the month.

@Grumpbum sorry to hear that, if it's of any use to you, the evra patches didn't turn me into an evil butch, they just weren't a high enough dose for me. Might be worth a try for you though.

OP posts:
ToastyFingers · 17/02/2017 20:13

Bitch, not butch. I'm pretty butch whatever contraceptive I use.

OP posts:
kali110 · 18/02/2017 17:19

Yep, i meant to stop you have such horrendous bleeds!
I didn't realise that cerezzette has the same side effects, maybe it's different for everyone.
I can no longer have the injection but cerezette is fine.

Thattwatoverthere · 18/02/2017 19:01

No advice but I'm 3 weeks into my latest period and I feel your pain.

Cerazette is killing me so I need to do battle with the doctors to find a contraceptive that isn't hormonal, is effective and saves me a fortune on pads.

Plus after 4-5 days of a period I get BV which is Confused Blush

When will it stop???

Stripeyblanket · 18/02/2017 19:37

I've had similar issues. I had the implant after my ds was born because I can't take a lot of the various pills. It was awful. Made me some crazy woman and I randomly started bleeding heavily for over a month, ten months into having it. I've had it removed now. While waiting for it to be removed, the doc gave me some tablets that stopped the bleeding.
I'm considering a copper coil now as there are no hormones in it and it lasts for ten years. Hope you get sorted OP. If you can't get in at your GP, try your local sexual health/family planning clinic for an alternative but you still need to see your GP just to check everything is ok.

AveEldon · 18/02/2017 19:41

Have you seen a gynae?
They should be investigating the cause of your bleeding

ToastyFingers · 18/02/2017 19:53

I'm pretty sure he pill is the cause of the bleeding, or at least that's what doctors have told me before. My periods are more or less normal when not using hormonal contraception.

OP posts:
SpringsInMySteps · 18/02/2017 20:41

Have you had your thyroid checked? My very heavy, long periods (with additional spotting in between -joy) turned back to normal periods as soon as I was diagnosed with an underactive thyroid and put on levothyroxine.

UpYaKilt · 18/02/2017 20:57

Second the thyroid suggestion, plus asking for your iron and ferritin levels to be checked as that can be a cause of heavy bleeding too. Have you just stopped Bfing? - periods can be all over the place then.
Has your GP organised checking for infection and other problems that might be a cause rather than blaming it on hormonal contraception straight off? If you don't feel they'd do that you'd be much better travelling further to a Sexual Health Clinic.

Hisstory · 18/02/2017 21:17

I'd try for sterilization too. It's keyhole surgery and can be done under local anesthetic. The actual OP takes a few minutes and I didn't need any painkillers at all afterwards. I'm sure I was given some at the time of the OP though. It felt like a period.

I particularly like the fact it's effective immediately.
