Perfect letter, just great!

saffronwblue · 16/02/2017 09:26

'Trump causes distress rather than experiencing it'. Ain't that the truth.

blueskyinmarch · 16/02/2017 09:27

Here is a source we have not had previously

My DH passed this on to me. He is CISO for a big financial institution and Global Security is a huge issue. It seems SCROTUS isn’t taking it seriously.

saffronwblue · 16/02/2017 09:29

Trump has more in common with North Korean leaders than he realises. They like a good rally.

BiglyBadgers · 16/02/2017 09:31

Oh my goodness. So the white house currently has no CISO in place!? That is crazy.

Of course, if I was to get all conspiracy nut about it I might suggest that they have to clear out the existing security staff so they can open it up to the Russians...

Or maybe Trump just doesn't like being told he can't tweet from his personal phone Hmm

pinboard · 16/02/2017 09:37

"What is this rally supposed to be for? Or is it just an opportunity for him to get lots of adulation? He hasn't even been in office for a month, why does he need a fucking rally?
And does this mean another 6 months of arguing about how many people were there?"

YES!
Actually I think the Rally (is there ANY precedent for this)
is a GREAT thing.
Yugely.
It WILL backfire and he WILL rant like a loon and it will further corrode his credibility. Bring it on!

LOVE these threads. The Biggest. The Best. Yuge. Rally-style.

I think that letter from Allen Frances to the NYT is one of the best written things I have ever read.
Thank you so much for linking it.

HairyToity · 16/02/2017 09:47

Surely this farce cannot continue for 4 years. Trump is a menace!

I still cannot believe that so many millions of people fell for the conman.

saffronwblue · 16/02/2017 09:48

On a lighter note, a little fun activity- 'spicerise my name'

If May took it into her head to try it on (& didn't die from the embarrassment at doing something so crass, gauche & essentially un-British) can you imagine the reactions she'd get from the public... bwahahahaha...

The precedent that immediately springs to mind is Hitler. He was a one for the rallies-when-in-power. On the plus side, after the Nuremberg Rallies, there were the Nuremberg Trials. Let's just hope this time justice will arrive more swiftly...

PausingFlatly · 16/02/2017 10:07

I liked this when it was posted as a graphic on a previous thread, so I've typed it out.

(Not sure it works for stuff like the ego-rally, but it's spot on for the gutting of the Affordable Care Act, firing of the CISO, building the wall, etc.)

"When you post or talk about him, don't assign his actions to him, assign them to "The Republican Administration," or "The Republicans." This will have several effects; the Republican legislators will either have to take responsibility for their association with him or stand up for what some of them don't like; he will not get the focus of attention he craves; Republican representatives will become very concerned about their re-elections."

amispartacus · 16/02/2017 10:09

North Korean leaders likes rallies and cheering crowds and a press who reports on the antics of their glorious leader.

I wonder how much Trump is really aware of the wider world of autocrats.

On phone so didn't show link but funny. 😃

More from the same, in Lweji's post at Fri 10-Feb-17 11:43:15 here:

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/2850730-She-was-told-to-be-quiet-Nevertheless-she-persisted-Trump-cont?pg=11#prettyPhoto

"Keep demonstrations peaceful. In the words of John Lennon, 'When it gets down to having to use violence, then you are playing the system's game. The establishment will irritate you - pull your beard, flick your face - to make you fight! Because once they've got you violent, then they know how to handle you. the only think they don't know how to handle is non-violence and humor'."

Megatherium · 16/02/2017 10:14

Handshake link. Worth a giggle.

Yes. I was more thinking of American presidents, of the last 75 years, say.

re the Theresa May Parade. I think it would
A. never arise (far too British for all that sort of thing, thank you)
B. would simply provoke derision

I think Trumps Parade will also provoke derision however.
It's a Yuge mistake in his part. Yuge. But actually helpful, as well as amusing, for the rest of us, as it will hasten his demise.

Placemarking this beautiful thread, finding it hard to keep up! :)

This is from yesterday so we might have had it already. Still looks like another kick for the intelligence agencies.

White House Plans to Have Trump Ally Review Intelligence Agencies

TronaldFrump · 16/02/2017 10:30

Pausing good point.
The republicans need to either own it with Trump, or LTB. As much as I want to blame and mock Trump, there is a massive Republican party machine behind him.

hackmum · 16/02/2017 10:31

"He may be a world-class narcissist, but this doesn’t make him mentally ill, because he does not suffer from the distress and impairment required to diagnose mental disorder."

That's from the Allen Frances letter. Now I realise I'm on dangerous ground, contradicting the psychiatrist who wrote the definition of narcissistic personality disorder, but I am slightly surprised to discover that you can only be deemed to be suffering from a mental disorder if you're distressed by it. What about psychopathy? Surely that is a notable example of a personality disorder that doesn't distress the people who exhibit it?

As for whether he's impaired by it, it strikes me that he is. If you, as leader of the free world, decide to have a meeting with another world leader on a matter of international security, and you hold that meeting in a resort where you can be overheard by other guests and waiting staff, doesn't that show that your decision-making is impaired? His impulsive behaviour, defensiveness, quickness to anger are all, to my mind, signs of impairment.

ZebraOwl · 16/02/2017 10:32

Sorry, my point re: Hitler was there is no U.S. precedent...

Lweji · 16/02/2017 10:32

He is CISO for a big financial institution and Global Security is a huge issue. It seems SCROTUS isn’t taking it seriously.

Because Hillary proved that it's a matter not to take seriously?

merrymouse · 16/02/2017 10:33

I don't think rallies are really May's thing.

However, they are Corbyn's (or at least momentum's) thing and they appeared to serve him well in September. Unless they change the rules, the PLP are stuck with Corbyn until he loses member support.

merrymouse · 16/02/2017 10:36

Can somebody check - Was September really only 5 months ago? Confused
