To think people with really loud laughs need to show a bit of consideration

We were seated beside a group in a restaurant at the weekend and one woman had a really loud shrieky laugh that we were forced to listen to every couple of minutes. She could be heard across the restaurant and we weren't the only people shooting her the occasional annoyed glance, to which she was totally oblivious.

AIBU to think that loudly guffawing or shrieking with laughter constantly throughout your meal in a restaurant is fecking annoying and people should use a bit of cop on and control themselves.

Not objecting to people enjoying themselves and having a good laugh, but no need to ensure it can be heard at the other side of the restaurant.

If she's really that loud, I would call waiter over and ask that he asks her to pipe down as you can't hear your vegetables speak

YANBU, nothing wrong with a deep hearty laugh however, a high pitched shreel would try the patience of a saint

Too loud

My poor husband is guilty of all of these and every day is a struggle Grin

Might have been me. Sorry. My laugh is loud, spontaneous and filthy.

My XH was forever shushing me. I honestly can't control it.

Sneezing or nose blowing is worse.

I can't stand the attention seeking sneeze. The inhale of breath they take whilst preparing themselves to shriek the roof off is absurd.

The noises that come from some people's faces is beyond ridiculous.

However, I snort when I laughter so cannot really complain. The other diners would be searching for a piglet under the table...

There's a woman in our local pub like this. If she's there we say "oh no noisy woman!" and try and sit as far away from her as possible. Very loud voice and even louder laugh that echos round the pub even when busy.
I think making that much racket is attention seeking. and thoughtless.

My friend has a really loud laugh and I love it. It makes me laugh more when I hear her laugh. It just seems to get the party started - but I can see it might fuck off other people who aren't having such an obviously good time.

It's nothing to do with having a good time. To me if you have to laugh that loudly it's all a bit put on and a show so other people can see what a fun time you're having and how you're the life and soul of the party, particularly if you always have to laugh loudly and drown out everyone else's conversations. It's all very "me me me".

ExH had this kind of laugh in situations where he wanted to be life and soul of the party -

"hoo-ehh, hoo-ehh, hoo-ehh" in a very loud deep tone, like a rutting walrus. Probably. He was a controlling knob though.

NDN's DD has a machine-gun style giggle. Mildly annoying, but that's all.

For me it's spontaneous.

My next door neighbour has a friend whose laugh is like a shriek, there were a couple of barbecues over the summer where I wanted to shout over the fence to her to shut the fuck up. We've heard her on nights out in town and knew it was her before we laid eyes on her.

It's totally an attention seeking thing. Like Jimmy Carr and his honking goose laugh.

I had a young guy sitting behind me in a theatre who had an unbearably loud laugh. Ok, we were watching a comedy play, but he just laughed on and off all the way through, even at parts where no one else was laughing. At times I could hardly hear bits of the dialogue. I did turn round and say "SHHH!!" At one point during the second act, as I was getting really irritated, he did a stupid putting his hand over his mouth thing but no apology. The two girls with him looked mortified but did nothing to shut him up either. I can only assume he was high on some illegal substance.

YANBU to find it annoying.

I was at dinner with a group of friends recently and the waiter asked us to keep it down a bit as a neighbouring table had complained. We really had no idea we were being loud but felt bad and toned it down. Ultimately, other people have also paid to come out to have dinner, have a drink etc and deserve to be able to hear each other speak (or themselves think).

Often people don't know they're doing it so a polite request can often do the trick.

I can't tolerate people making loud noises, whether it's a shrieking kid or caterwauling adult screaming for attention in public. They all need to just fuck up and get themselves under control, no one wants to listen to that.

Seriously MumBod, it's very annoying for people near you in a restaurant to have to listen to constant explosions of really loud, intrusive laughing.
