To think people with really loud laughs need to show a bit of consideration

We were seated beside a group in a restaurant at the weekend and one woman had a really loud shrieky laugh that we were forced to listen to every couple of minutes. She could be heard across the restaurant and we weren't the only people shooting her the occasional annoyed glance, to which she was totally oblivious.

AIBU to think that loudly guffawing or shrieking with laughter constantly throughout your meal in a restaurant is fecking annoying and people should use a bit of cop on and control themselves.

Not objecting to people enjoying themselves and having a good laugh, but no need to ensure it can be heard at the other side of the restaurant.

I always assume that the ones laughing loudest are having the least fun and are putting on a show of being part of the gang, getting the joke.

What a strange assumption.

Oh dear! Yes I have someone like this in my circle and I am often really embarrassed by her incredibly loud laughing which sounds like a YAK YAK YAK sort of noise.

I see people turning to look at her and they are clearly annoyed, but she seems to think it's something that makes her sort of Yoonique Grin She is very attention seeking in general tbh so the laugh fits her "everybody look at me I am having such a good time!" personality.

I feel embarrassed for her (how British!) but I also feel embarrassed for feeling like that. It's difficult to explain, but I know it annoys me so it must be doubly annoying for strangers the far side of the restaurant forced to listen to it. If anyone ever says anything she says she can't help it and is just having fun - get over it!

No desperation to be the life and soul here. The only desperation I usually feel at a party is the desire to get home and read a book.

Occasionally though, someone says something funny, and I laugh. And it's sometimes a bit loud. The end.

It's not a strange assumption at all book. Loud laughs often sound really forced and it does sometimes give the impression that the person is not really that at ease with the group and is trying to look like they belong and are at the centre of it all.

MumBod you made me laugh out loud.

OP you weren't in a village pub at a crossroads were you? My friend has a very loud laugh.

I apologise to the OP on behalf of dh's family members.
One of them laughs like a cock crowing. That's when she's being quiet.
