Jut want to add that the ready made stuff (both courgette and cauliflower rice) is horrible, whoever said upthread that is sort of ferments in the bag is right. Just make your own, miles cheaper and tons nicer.

SilenceIsBroken · 14/02/2017 03:46

Then get hand made pasta!

If you can find where I can get handmade pasta without gluten or egg I'd love to know the details!

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 14/02/2017 03:51

I wouldn't make courgetti, but I do like to have courgette ribbons in place of pasta. So, slice them with a ribbon grater (this probably has a proper name) and then fry them in butter with salt, just to soften them a litte - much better than spaghetti, IMO.

Cauliflower rice - I like it but I can't foist it onto the family - they now. They like cauliflower cooked properly, but don't like it pretending to be rice (no idea why!)

It's gross

bonbonours · 14/02/2017 18:48

I love courgette but didn't love courgetti when I tried it. I felt like I just gad a plate of vegetables. Funny that. I could envisage mixing it with spaghetti but I'd rather just fill up the plate with loads of spray oil fried mixed veg than watery boiled courgettes.

squizita · 14/02/2017 21:20

I find it really annoying when they pretend it's pasta.

  1. Vegetables are nice. Let them be vegetables.
  2. For people who get obsessive about food, this kind of thing really isn't good. "I'm not cutting food groups/eating too low cal long term... I'm just enjoying a different kind of pasta."
squizita · 14/02/2017 21:23

Also boiled courgette as PP have pointed out is rank. Lightly stir fry it. It is full of water - boiling it always results in poor texture (from posh restaurants to great home cooks to me ... Always) which has a perverse appeal to some as it emphasises the clean boak eating element but really enjoying that element is a red flag for being the kind of person who needs to avoid food fads.

Has anyone tried the edame bean pasta? Was all well after eating?
I cooked some up not so long ago, scoffed it down and rather chuffed that it was tasty, reasonably filling whilst being low carb. Well...the following day I had explosive diarreah, obnoxious farts and wind that would interest meteorologists.

Oysterbabe · 14/02/2017 21:59

For fans of vegetables pretending they aren't, I spiralized a celeriac today and had it with bacon, leek and cheese sauce. It was lovely (despite the rank celery smell when preparing it).

RiversrunWoodville · 17/02/2017 08:55

Ooh oyster

TheNaze73 · 17/02/2017 08:58

With you there Oyster, it's lovely prepared like that

noeffingidea · 17/02/2017 09:37

Its ridiculous. If you're an adult why do you have to pretend food is something else? Thats what you do to young children to fool them into eating vegetables.Cauliflower is still cauliflower, whether it's grated to look like rice or not. Courgette is still courgette, whatever shape it's in.
If you want to substitute vegetables for pasta or rice then just cook a pile of vegetables and pour your sauce over them.
The fact that supermarkets cater for this sort of fad by preparing them in that way just shows that there are some gullible customers around.

MagicChicken · 18/02/2017 07:26

You aren't pretending it's something else. Courgetti is just a courgette cut into the shape of spaghetti and it can be used as a substitute for pasta in that it makes a good base for sauces and the sauce clings to it. That's all. I don't think anything is trying to convince anyone else that a pile of courgette is actual spaghetti or taste exactly the same as spaghetti any more than they are trying to pretend that a salmon fishcake is the same as a Victoria sponge on account of the word cake.

PossumInAPearTree · 18/02/2017 07:37

I normally don't like the texture of courgette but it's fine as courgetti.

And I can't stand the taste/texture of cauliflower but grated up its fine. Must be the texture really because logically I know it must taste the same.

So I'm eating more veg and less carbs which is good.

felinewonderful · 19/02/2017 09:24

Yanbu it's a ridiculous concept as a pasta alternative. Nice as a side dish of vegetables though. The same goes for cauliflower rice, cauliflower as a pizza base etc. Awful
