I bought ready made and microwaved it for 3 minutes- it was to go with Spaghetti Bol so couldn't imagine it raw??

It's nowhere near the same as pasta but it's OK. You have to be careful cooking it otherwise it gives off a lot of liquid. Cauliflower rice is OK, but the premade stuff you get in supermarkets honks. As in, smells horrible.

bumsexatthebingo · 13/02/2017 19:54

I was very disappointed with the carrot spirals as a substitute for spaghetti. And I usually really like carrot.

RiversrunWoodville · 13/02/2017 19:55

Also intrigued what a boodle is? Love courgetti, I spiralise carrots courgettes and turnip all the time for stir fry and occasionally squash but less fussed on it. Helps me not eat carbs during the week. Also cauliflower rice although it probably helps we are a veg farm so have plenty

Titsywoo · 13/02/2017 19:55

I use it along with pasta so I reduce the carbs and get more veg. I only do homemade not shop bought as theirs are watery and crap. So a whole courgette spiralised and fried for a couple of minutes then a small amount of spaghetti and mushrooms with pesto is bloody lovely.

Oysterbabe · 13/02/2017 19:55

Don't boil the courgetti, stirfry it so it's not watery.

MagicChicken · 13/02/2017 19:57

I use it raw. The heat of the sauce is enough to just warm it and soften it so it's still al dente without going watery and mushy.

LeaningTowerOfGaffney · 13/02/2017 20:01

I really like cauliflower rice, but you have to season it, it really absorbs flavour. I like to use curry powder (depending on what I'm eating with of course).

SayrraT · 13/02/2017 20:03

I love courgetti, I prefer it to pasta. I think it being mushy is because some people might be trying to cook it like pasta. I just use it raw, it's never mushy.

p1nkflam1ngos · 13/02/2017 20:05

It's nice stir fried very briefly in garlic oil.

We use the spirilised vege and the rice ones a lot. We had tonight corguette, squash and carrots spirilised with mince as spag bol. Usually have pasta made from rice (gluten and corn free) but I thought we'd better cut down on rice after the article someone linked yesterday. (We do eat a lot of rice products)

The vegetable rice we get sainsburys because they are separate vege in each pack- I can't stand the smell of the tesco mixed one. We add them to potatoes for rainbow waffles. The beetroot one goes into coleslaw- my teen has no idea she's eating raw beetroot.

1hamwich4 · 13/02/2017 20:11

As a poor student I once liquidised the sad remains of a slightly manky cauliflower into bits. It made quite a good substitute for mince in a pasta sauce provided you weren't expecting actual meat.

I can't help imagining courgette spaghetti being rather slimy though...

muddypuddled · 13/02/2017 20:13

I love it but you have to flavour it really well with your slag bol or whatever. Also love cauliflower rice, add soy sauce, honey and egg fry it with a stir fry and sauce like sweet chilli and it is amazing!

TheMysteriousJackelope · 13/02/2017 20:13

We get Edamame pasta. It tastes pretty much like wholegrain pasta to me as I don't like pasta at the best of times.

DH likes it which is just as well as he is diabetic. The DC despise it.

VestalVirgin · 13/02/2017 20:14

Of course it is not an alternative for pasta. Pasta gives you calories, which you NEED - you can't just replace that with a vegetable!
(Unless you are severely overweight, but really, why do people these days assume that everyone is overweight?)

And of course it doesn't taste remotely the same.

ThymeLord · 13/02/2017 20:17

Boodles are just butternut squash noodles. I don't find them too sweet.

Eolian · 13/02/2017 20:19

YANBU. It's quite nice if you like courgette (which I do) but it is quite obviously nothing like spaghetti!

ClaudiaApfelstrudel · 13/02/2017 20:21

I'll have to try butternut squash noodles, sounds interesting!

I find courgettes are a bit too liquidy to really pass as a good enough spaghetti. I tend to make vegetable curries with all vegetables I can buy, beans, broad beans, spinach, carrots, brocolli, courgettes, even stinging nettles. A bit of curry powder and cinnamon go a long way, add a bit of cream and it's lovely.

Madeyemoodysmum · 13/02/2017 20:24

Tried it from Sainsbury's too and it was vile Wasted most of it.

Woodpecker1234 · 13/02/2017 20:25

It's only nice if you make it yourself, this includes cauliflower rice. I think if you buy it premade it just ferments in the bag so the texture and taste is really different.

it only really works if your buy barely ripe fresh veg and prepare it at home, I find the pre-prepared stuff slimy and gross! Especially if your used to fresh pasta which has a bit more bite to it!

londonrach · 13/02/2017 20:27

Finally. Op you are sooo right.

ASDismynormality · 13/02/2017 20:37

I really like it and cauliflower 'rice' too. I stir fry them and make my own rather than buy pre-made.

MikeUniformMike · 13/02/2017 20:39

I've wondered about the courgetti. I tried the ready made stuff and it wasn't worth trying again. It was wet and tasteless.

MakeItStopNeville · 13/02/2017 20:41

I LOVE cauliflower rice when made with garlic, lime and coriander. I use courgetti to replace half the pasta instead of all of it with meatballs.

StealthPolarBear · 13/02/2017 20:44

Edam me pasta sounds nice. Everything else sounds disgusting. What's wrong with good old delicious pasta?
