To think that courgette spaghetti is NOT a perfect alternative to pasta?

Despite the claims on the packet it really isn't is it?

I don't like courgette spaghetti or cauliflower rice but I love butternut squash spaghetti/ sweet potato tagliatelle/butternut squash lasagne sheets. I am looking forward to trying 'squaffles' if they are ever back in stock in sainsburys!

Butterymuffin · 13/02/2017 19:20

Catch I've seen it in my Asda lately. Definitely still around.

NoelHeadbands · 13/02/2017 19:22

I don't think they market them as products to increase veg intake though do they? It's not like 'hidden veg in sauce'.

I thought they were for people like me who aren't keen on pasta, or low carbers

ilovewelshrarebit123 · 13/02/2017 19:23

Try the butternut squash spaghetti from Aldi instead, it's a lovely alternative.

dailymaillazyjournos · 13/02/2017 19:25

I got a pack of the pre-cut stuff in Sainsbury recently out of interest and it was a vile, watery mess. Yak. Will not be buying it again. I once made cauliflower rice and came to the conclusion I'd rather have something properly cauliflowery (soup, curry etc) than just have a pile of crumbs. Maybe I'm just not getting the concept but I think I'd rather go without pasta or rice than have a veg substitute.

blowmybarnacles · 13/02/2017 19:26

I have the slim pasta if I'm trying to watch my carb intake as pasta is my weakness and I'd eat far too much

I got mine in a deal off groupon

I like to mix it with the courgette stuff and have a spiralizer to make my own

SailAwayWithMeHoney · 13/02/2017 19:30

I love courgette spaghetti - but it's not as filling as pasta. I tend to sub half the pasta with the courgette and that works quite well.

Cauliflower rice is lovely (imo) but then I don't like rice so cauli-rice is perfect for me.

charliethebear · 13/02/2017 19:30

Courgetti is the most depressing, disappointing food I think I've ever eaten. I love courgette but it was just watery and unsatisfying.
Cauliflower rice is okay though.

PurpleAlerts · 13/02/2017 19:35

Courgette when spiralised always looks like a lot but when dropped into hot water seems to shrink tremendously and even when well drained seems very soggy. Butternut squash or sweet potato is better but then more carb heavy than Courgette

Motherofhowmany · 13/02/2017 19:37

It's not as bad as that cauliflower rice bs

RedBugMug · 13/02/2017 19:37

yanbu
pasta is perfectly good food.
courgette goes very well with pasta

p1nkflam1ngos · 13/02/2017 19:42

I quite like it. I generally don't like vegetables, but don't mind the courgette spaghetti so I just use half as much spaghetti and mix it together. When it's mixed like that I usually don't notice it and neither do the kids or partner.

limitedperiodonly · 13/02/2017 19:43

You are right. I like courgettes, but in their place

ThymeLord · 13/02/2017 19:44

I really quite like sainsburys boodles and their BNS chips are pretty tasty too!

p1nkflam1ngos · 13/02/2017 19:45

The people I know who are more likely to use courgette spaghetti, cauliflower rice etc, are 5:2 fasters. It's just a way of bulking up the dish but with less calories - which matters a lot when you don't have a lot of calories to spare on fasting days. Every single calorie is accounted for.

PossumInAPearTree · 13/02/2017 19:45

I love it.

Courgetti for spaghetti
Boodles for noodles
Cauliflower cous cous for rice.

RooMama · 13/02/2017 19:47

I've got one of those spiralizer cookbooks. There are a few good recipes in there which I make regularly but substitute the vegetable boodles for wholemeal spaghetti. May have missed the point of the cookbook, but makes dinner much nicer.

ThymeLord · 13/02/2017 19:48

Seren I've had the squaffles and tbh I didn't think they were great. They shrunk down to little dried up shards!

PossumInAPearTree · 13/02/2017 19:48

And dh doesn't understand the packaging

I was taking half a pack of out of date cali cous cous to feed the Guinea pigs. He started saying I couldn't feed cous cous to them. I said it's not cous cous, it's just cauliflower. He was ranting like I was daft, pointing at the pack " cous cous, it says cous cous". Took me five mins of explaining.

ThymeLord · 13/02/2017 19:49

I love saying boodles Grin

Ollycat · 13/02/2017 19:49

What's a boodle? Is it butternut squash? Isn't it massively sweet?

Surprised no one has mentioned beetroot rice yet. I love beetroot but turned into rice its just weird.

Courgettes are disgusting anyhow so spiralising doesnt make a difference.

MTB1003 · 13/02/2017 19:52

Yanbu, it's just as much a load of crap as 'cauli' rice Hmm it's also so mushy and if you don't cook it then it's crunchy, nothing like pasta at all.

altiara · 13/02/2017 19:52

Are you cooking it first? I make my own with the spiralizer and don't cook it, I like it if I'm doing low calorie/low carb as it's not as mushy as my spaghetti!

MagicChicken · 13/02/2017 19:53

Well it's not as nice as spaghetti I'll grant you, but for a low carber it's an absolute godsend and tastes better than you would expect.
