To wonder how much David Lloyd gym memberships cost?

Our (fairly expensive already!) Virgin gym is being taken over by David Lloyd.

Some of the prices I've seen online for their gyms are horrendous!

Can anyone tell me what they're paying at the moment?

Our gym has tennis courts and a creche. At present we get three hours a day free creche use. Any idea if these are extra with DL?

It's a lot. Near enough £80 a month. But I think you will stay on the original contract if you were originally with virgin.

It's very expensive and a lot of services you have to pay extra for. I do like it though. I never feel self conscious in there.

Any idea how much the kids are?

Do they offer discounts for second adult / big organisations (e.g. Virgin do an NHS employees discount).

I'm £88 pm for DS and my membership, it used to be just over £100 but they reduced my fees around a year ago. I'm not too sure of the breakdown now but when I joined I was around £85 and DS £24.

I think we pay about £80 for me and then £25 for the children. DCs do swimming and tennis at the club.

In 2011 we were paying 160pm for the 4 of us. Ended up giving it up.

At the moment the full rate for the first adult is £91 and the second is £65 (we get a corporate discount on this) so pay about £90 for a couple.

Are there group sessions for kids? Virgin have supervised activities from 4-7 on week days which are free.

Yeah every day they have activities for kids, craft and active. Tennis and swimming lessons are extra though.

We pay £177 a month for 2 adults, a 5 yo and 2.5 yo. We're in London so our prices are apparently higher than the rest of U.K.

If a gym session costs £12 (walk-in charge) & a swim costs £5, by the time you take time off for holidays or illness, you need to go regularly 3x/week to get your money's worth. wowza.

We've got 3 DC. They're £16/month on top of the £90. So £140ish in total.

The London Virgin gyms are a lot more than ours.

£96 off peak with a baby. Plus £6 an hour for the crèche. That isn't including the tennis.

I didn't sign up.

We go twice a week every week. I do two classes and my DH does one. At the moment it seems OK value for money. It's a luxury but I work long hours and this makes me take a break.

I pay £123 for me and DS including rackets. We have outside pool too which is good for the two days of sunny weather we get every year.

There are free after school activities for kids including stuff like film club and crafts.

We can use other clubs too.

I believe they do offer discounts for NHS etc.

Ours is 60 miles out of London and my friend pays £230 a month for a family of 4. Creche is extra.

£6 an hour for the crèche? I would have considered it if the crèche was included in the membership price.

We pay about £180 for 2 adults and a 5 year old. Ours includes rackets. We use it a lot, so for us it is good value for money.
If I was to pay elsewhere for the weekly activities DS does, it would probably cost £30 - £40 per week.
So if you use it, it is good value for money.

£6ph for creche for all ages? Virgin charge for under 3s, but £6 for larger ratios seems harsh.

There aren't any classes for under 3s so you have to put them in the crèche. Any older and they can go to one of the active or craft classes (or the extra cost swimming or tennis lessons) that are part of their membership. These classes usually run along side the more popular adult exercise classes so parents can drop kids at activity and go to a class, or just potter about in the gym.

My point is (which I didn't make clear) you can always work out a system where you don't have to pay for 3+ Child and you still get what you need out of the gym.

I pay £96 for off peak at our David Lloyd. Peak would be £125. We can only afford for me to be a member as it's £38 per child and mine would never have time to go anyhow.

Ours is packed to the gills with families, and seeing as it would cost about £370 per month for a family of five like ours I'm staggered at how many can afford it
