I know Mark Cuban well. He backed me big-time but I wasn't interested in taking all of his calls. He's not smart enough to run for president!

GingerIvy · 12/02/2017 13:25

Not sure what that's about. Confused

AcrossthePond55 · 12/02/2017 13:28

Aligning oneself with those who are in positions of power is common strategy, it will probably keep you safe in the short term, whether it is effective in the long term will dependent on a variety of factors which can be difficult to measure and predict

Sort of reminds me of Peter 'Wormtail' Pettigrew in the Potter books. You know, it's funny/not funny, but there are quite a few parallels between the Trump's election and Voldemort's second rise to power. I've been struck by Bannon with his hand up Trump's arse like a ventriloquist. Scarily the same as the way that Voldy didn't make himself MoM, but chose to stay behind the scenes and let Pius Thicknesse 'run the show' which left Voldy free to plot and move in secret.

Wait! Could Trump be under the Imperius Curse? Nah, he's just a narcissistic sociopath.

GingerIvy · 12/02/2017 13:28

Oh wait, I've found it.

Pausing Interesting you mentioning 9/11 and flags. For a period of time afterwards, pretty much anyone who didn't fly the Stars and Stripes was open to suspicion, or at the very least not being 'patriotic' or caring towards the victims. I made a remark once that there were victims of other nations in the Towers so maybe we should fly their flags too lest they be forgotten. The responses to my suggestion were, for the most part, less than favourable.

The same with not regarding police and fire as superheroes above and beyond all others. To an extent this 'cult' of police/fire as 'untouchable' that was cultivated then has contributed to some of the out of control officers that we have seen since. I have great admiration for our police and fire services, they put themselves in danger daily. But that doesn't mean they shouldn't be 'policed' themselves. But I digress.

Meryl Streep continues to speak out. I do wonder how much risk high profile people are exposing themselves to. I suspect potentially quite a lot 😟

Perhaps people should ask in the US, which are the most prosperous states? Are they more liberal or conservative? Which protect their vulnerable and accept immigration better?

Interesting idea but the prosperous states are California and NY, which also have the highest population so you would have to take that into account.

Lweji · 12/02/2017 14:33

Aren't American workers supposed to be given jobs first and for employers to show there was no available equal national alternative?
What's the current law?

Interesting comment on executive orders, from the first issued by Washington.

But population also tends to flock to prosperous states.
If they are producing more than taking, despite having immigration and providing more care than others, is it a population effect or a policy effect?

Westfox · 12/02/2017 14:44

That's probably the case with NY, not so sure about California. Weather and lifestyle play a huge part.

I am in the US and would hate to live in California

On our way home from the Lego Batman movie. DH and I both commented on Batman's sociopathic billionaire behaviour at the beginning, which was quite Trumpish in mannerisms & language. There was even a line in one of the songs which went 'who pays their taxes? Batman: not me, I'm a billionaire!!' Interested to see if anyone else seen it & thought there was an edge to the first 1/3 of the film?

illegitimateMortificadospawn · 12/02/2017 15:11

I can recommend the Lego film if you want a laugh. It even had 'British robots' (Daleks). Grin
