The dining room at Mar-A-Lago is the new White House situation room, and if you can pay the fee, you're invited. www.cnn.com/2017/02/12/politics/trump-shinzo-abe-mar-a-lago-north-korea/

M0stlyBowlingHedgehog · 13/02/2017 18:49

You see, all those photos of Trudeau actually make me a bit Hmm. I think my feelings of mistrust crystallised with his little TV clip in the run up to the Invictus games, when lots of national leaders were recording "go, our brave ex service men and women..." clips. Trudeau's started like everyone elses, then when a couple of guys who'd lost arms started doing one arm push ups, Trudeau got down on the floor with them and started doing one arm push ups with his other hand behind his back. And for me I'm afraid it was one of those "I'm seeing you as you are" moments which can't be unseen - he shifted it from being about the disabled veterans still doing amazing things to being all about him. And I just saw Putin doing his bare chested hunter thing - a better looking, political liberal (hence more palatable to me in terms of what he does) version, but the same underlying "it's all about me" narcissism. I'm afraid I don't trust the guy. I could see him turning out to have feet of clay on some pretty major issues.

ZebraOwl · 13/02/2017 18:50

FlyMe

Nope: she's not only British by birth she's even white British. So REALLY not someone you'd expect to have an issue. It is possible Trump has confused ballet & burqas I suppose. Ballets & bullets? Or maybe Bannon saw "The Nutcracker" at Christmas & is scared someone is going to vanquish him with a well-aimed pointe shoe...

Re the Oroville Dam in CA; I live 50 'air miles' from it but in the 'right' direction and at a higher elevation.

It is NOT the dam itself. It's an emergency overflow weir that is spilling over due to all the rain/snow we've had. It's causing erosion at the bottom of the weir and the concern is that the weir, not the dam, might fail. But it's a real danger and over 180,000 people in the area have been evacuated.

I'm sure federal disaster funds will be asked for if there's a catastrophic failure of the weir. Gov Brown has already asked SCROTUS to declare California a disaster area due to flooding and mudslides. So far there has been no response AND SCROTUS has made statements regarding his intentions to 'hurt' Californians because we are considering becoming a Sanctuary State.

As much as I hate it, I almost wish he would refuse it. Perhaps if some of his supporters in my state are faced with not being able qualify for low/no interest FEMA rebuilding loans, emergency aid, or see their streets and public facilities sit damaged for lack of federal matching funds, perhaps then they'll get that wake up call and realize that they supported and contributed to the campaign of a rabid dog for President. Maybe then they'll realize that the answer to their question of "What's in it for ME, Mr Trump" is "Not a goddam thing!".

Farage wants Trump to have a rally at Wembley, citing example of Indian prime minister.

I know nothing about the Indian prime minister's visit, but off the top of my head there is a large Indian community in west London and Wembley is close to Neasden temple.

I don't think there is a large right wing American community in north west London?

Anyway, I very much doubt the government would allow this because of risk to public safety. The problem isn't just what Trump is saying and doing now but what he might be saying and doing in 6 months.

cozietoesie · 13/02/2017 18:57

Ha! Give us 6 months more, merry, and I'll be more pleased than I am right now.

I'm afraid I don't trust the guy

I wouldnt claim to trust any of the major party leaders or heads of state to be honest. I don't think you become prime minister or president without having a pretty stonking ego and being prepared to make some pretty unpalatable decisions. Also it is unlikely there will ever be a politician who will always make the decisions or policy choices in think they should (I doubt even I would if I ever accidentally ended up in power). Tradeau is good looking and popular and he clearly knows it. However, on the whole I think he has shown himself to be on the right side of the line much of the time. Comparing him to Putin based on a childishly egotistical mistep is pretty harsh. Putin is one step away from crazed dictator.

AcrossthePond55 · 13/02/2017 19:14

Oooh, they just broke into my show to cover the live press conference of Trudeau and Scrotus discussing their meeting. This might be good!

Please, PM Trudeau, please make Scrotus look (more) like an arse. Please, please, please!!! Please, pull no punches. Oh, plleeeezzzzeee!
