Re the Oroville Dam in CA; I live 50 'air miles' from it but in the 'right' direction and at a higher elevation.
It is NOT the dam itself. It's an emergency overflow weir that is spilling over due to all the rain/snow we've had. It's causing erosion at the bottom of the weir and the concern is that the weir, not the dam, might fail. But it's a real danger and over 180,000 people in the area have been evacuated.
I'm sure federal disaster funds will be asked for if there's a catastrophic failure of the weir. Gov Brown has already asked SCROTUS to declare California a disaster area due to flooding and mudslides. So far there has been no response AND SCROTUS has made statements regarding his intentions to 'hurt' Californians because we are considering becoming a Sanctuary State.
As much as I hate it, I almost wish he would refuse it. Perhaps if some of his supporters in my state are faced with not being able qualify for low/no interest FEMA rebuilding loans, emergency aid, or see their streets and public facilities sit damaged for lack of federal matching funds, perhaps then they'll get that wake up call and realize that they supported and contributed to the campaign of a rabid dog for President. Maybe then they'll realize that the answer to their question of "What's in it for ME, Mr Trump" is "Not a goddam thing!".
