To think feeding 40 people for £50 is more than possible

I was planning to make a chilli con carne, curry, pulled pork, meatball pasta, carbonara in large pots.

Add sides of rice, garlic bread, potatoes, chips, pizza.

Snacks of crisps, nuts, quiche, cocktail cheese and pineapple, cruidetes with dip,

Large homemade cake

Different desserts.

My mum thinks this doesn't sound that interesting and I should be doing fancy canapés etc.

Caterers all wants £6 a head which I can't afford and don't need to ask I'm a good cook.

Am I being too ambitious?

What would you do to feed 40 people on £50?

I feel like OP was hoping this would end up in classics or be hailed as some kind of hero by the mythical chicken types. This has fallen flat on its face.

Westfacing · 13/02/2017 20:01

Pulled porkies Grin Grin

Thread was worth it just for this!

harderandharder2breathe · 13/02/2017 20:14

OP obviously used her time machine to go back 50 years or so to shop for her ingredients, that's why it's all so cheap!

BriocheBriocheBrioche · 13/02/2017 20:15

This thread has had me in stitches!

Maybe OP should get a stop gap job as a caterer (although it might be below her unless its always for charity) until she gets her driving license ans social work job.

Need to find the model thread!

Can't have been much of a 'very long walk' if they are done dusted, fed and home by 10am

Thanks for reminding me why I take this entire site with a huge pinch of almond flour salt.

clementineorange · 14/02/2017 00:28

Hope that's an exceedingly cheap, reject clementine

LOL. It's all I could afford on my budget. Got it at Parks Cakes. Be careful when eating though, the mixer cut of part of my finger...

Bahh · 14/02/2017 00:47

Time warp buffeter 😂

That's it, I have no more shit to lose. All gone. Can't cope.

RedBullBlood · 14/02/2017 01:12

Why? Just, why? An odd story, easily blown to bits...what a baffling place this site can be sometimes.

But, as a pp said, it was worth it for the 'devil's avocado' and the 'pulled porkies'!

3luckystars · 14/02/2017 01:44

I'm not very good with maths, or cooking for crowds so I can't comment but am just looking for the recipe for Devils Advocacy if anyone has it.

3luckystars · 14/02/2017 01:45

Devils Advocado even!

EmeraldScorn · 14/02/2017 01:51

How do I search for her old threads? They sound very entertaining in my half drunken stupor.

3luckystars · 14/02/2017 02:12

I really want to cook and invite people over now!

MagicChicken · 14/02/2017 03:38

omni wow that lot was a bargain, especially considering it includes a random saxophone. You could probably get 50 quid for that on Ebay alone. Grin

welovepancakes · 14/02/2017 13:58

Am I the only one who has been looking online for midnight charity walks in the Oldham area, to see if the event actually existed?

Pacha11 · 14/02/2017 13:59

CantSleepClownsWillEatMe Mon 13-Feb-17 12:01:32

The magic MN chicken tales have just become way more believable by comparison to this thread!

To sum it up, haha.

DubiousCredentials · 14/02/2017 14:00

Or maybe Chester depending on where the OP decided she was living.

GinIsIn · 14/02/2017 14:02

Nope - I checked for both - there weren't any! Grin

MagicChicken · 14/02/2017 14:19

welove Nope 😂😂😂

EssentialHummus · 14/02/2017 14:38

I had guacamole devil's avocado for lunch today. Just letting you all know.

EnriqueTheRingBearingLizard · 14/02/2017 15:29

Depending on whereabouts in Chester you start and whereabouts in Oldham the factory shop is, you must want an awful lot of cheap cake to make a 100 mile plus round trip worthwhile. Especially when you don't drive Confused

welovepancakes · 14/02/2017 16:01

I think there is a tardis involved. That would explain the time travel too

HeeHighls · 14/02/2017 17:05

Whatever the reason for this thread, I've seen so many posters on other threads suggesting mental health as a possibility. Yet it seems like a circling frenzy here to catch the op out.
Can you not at least say, "well done" or at the worst "as if" then just leave it?

I may be feeling a bit raw and kinder than usual due to the news of the mother found burned to death having left her five children.

Leave the op alone please. We know nothing.

NarkyMcDinkyChops · 14/02/2017 17:10

Oh please, you can't trot out "she may have mental health issues" on every single thing.
OP is trolling, and quite well too. Fair fucks to her for the laughs. Well done on that, not well done on the rest!

GinIsIn · 14/02/2017 17:15

HeeHigh I'm sorry that the news today upset you but to me, it's in really poor taste to lump in what happened to that poor woman with severe MH problems with someone like the OP who is clearly just being a bit daft online for the sake of it.
