To be ashamed of the Labour Party leadership

Long term member, did not support Corbyn, but even I am surprised by quite how bad he's been.

Where is the opposition? I get that Brexit is difficult, but where is Labour on the collapse of the NHS, the explosion of homelessness, the decimation of local council funding and the ticking bomb that is school funding?

Why is it that we now look to the Lords, the Cof E and petitions to be the opposition?

Shocking state of affairs.

Interesting article here from the guardian:

www.theguardian.com/politics/2017/feb/24/the-view-from-copeland-lifelong-labour-voters-want-corbyn-out

flippinada · 24/02/2017 20:02

Oh yes the CND rally, how could I forget. Honestly the man is like a parody of himself. Except it's not funny.

flippinada · 24/02/2017 20:12

I read something similar on the live blog earlier by the same writer, looks like it's been worked into a full article.

I agree with the general thrust of the article, but that probably won't come as a surprise. Labour is headed for wipeout if JC stays as leader.

HappydaysArehere · 24/02/2017 20:14

I always said if I couldn't vote Labour I wouldn't vote at all. What a change! He is a useless puppet. His strings are being pulled by his Marxist cohorts. Even Diane Abbott does her own thing and throws a sickie when directed by her leader. Poor Labour Party.

Fakenewsday · 24/02/2017 20:15

I can't argue with a two pronged strategy of voting Tory to get Jc out and staying in the Labour Party to try and vote him out as a member as that's the only currency he values

blackistheneworange · 24/02/2017 20:21

From the Have I Got News For You FB page, but too close to the truth.

To be ashamed of the Labour Party leadership

Sunshine, moonlight, Boogie!

Takes me back that does!

flippinada · 24/02/2017 20:36

Funny, but very close to the bone.

20nil · 24/02/2017 21:04

No, I can't leave and I can't join the Lib Dems for the reasons I outlined a million posts ago. We need to reform what has since its inception been the Party (when in power) which has done most to transform this country in the best ways. I still believe in core Labour values, just not a shit leadership which seems content for the country to go to hell.

We need to reform

I think we are all in agreement on this point.

Lalsy · 25/02/2017 08:43

Yes.

Owen Jones has said he is writing something this weekend but it is not sustainable.

WhirlwindHugs · 25/02/2017 08:48

I don't think abandoning ship will help either (although I'm very tempted. The Lib Dems are calling to me) I think it's going to be a relentless fight to pressure the MPs and HoLs we do have to stand up for what's right in the meantime plus a bit of patience.

I really think given enough rope JC will hang himself. Already people I know who were very keen on him seem to have dropped off the political radar. I'm wondering how many of those newly enthusiastic people have moved into 'doubtful' and by the next leadership challenge might be open to someone new.

Personally I know I've ducked out of opportunities in RL to say 'actually I agree he's a bad leader' and will be making an effort to speak up more!

I don't think it'll be this summer though. Next might be more achievable.

Lalsy · 25/02/2017 08:57

I have decided to stay but I do understand why people are leaving. I am giving my name to something I am ashamed of and I have wanted to leave several times. Speaking out helps me square my circle (I am doing so a bit publicly as well as here) and I regularly reply to letters from HQ asking for help saying you have to be joking - get rid of JC and I will consider it.

I agree about JC's support, judging by the twitter barometer. There is a lot of sneering at MSM and Blairites but seems to me less in the way of proper comment and analysis. And the unions are making noises.

Hi all again yes it's shit isn't it just when the country needs the strongest opposition we are at our weakest since the Foot era.

At least Michael Foot was a decent honest true socialist and an honourable man. I see JC as the opposite I am afraid weak, thin skinned and pig headed

Lalsy · 25/02/2017 09:11

Rugby I agree - ridiculously thin-skinned - he keeps running away from the press.

Who was the bloke on radio 4 now defending him, saying imagine how badly we could have done if we didn't have Jeremy?

teawamutu · 25/02/2017 09:15

lalsy whaaat?!? They are completely and utterly bloody delusional!

How on earth would anyone sane and with the most basic level of intelligence come to that conclusion? They must spend their entire lives at rallies and agreeing with each other on Twitter.

Lalsy · 25/02/2017 09:16

And I take it back about support - just seen a Paul Mason piece arguing that the Blairite plot to lose two bye-election seats in one night has failed. It sounds like something out of a Soviet satire.

Lalsy · 25/02/2017 09:18

tea I know. Didn't catch his name. I spat coffee over my laptop.

Rugbyplayersarehot · 25/02/2017 09:19

Yes I think they only talk to each other really and simply won't or can't engage with the rest of the party or the press.

He must have an agenda I think and it's not to get labour into power. He can't possibly really believe he could win the next or any general election.

I hate conspiracy theories but what's the other logical conclusion. He and his cronies are destroying labour.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 25/02/2017 09:40

That tweet by Paul Mason was ridiculous just as Ian Lavery and his run in with Andrew Neil was.

As for the Cat Smith interview after the Copeland loss. Completely deluded.

teawamutu · 25/02/2017 09:43

make, what sort of reform do you have in mind?

birdsdestiny · 25/02/2017 09:51

I was shouting at the radio as whichever momentum bloke was saying 'but look at the support Jeremy' gets in the rallies. How many bloody rallies do you see the Tories holding.

teawamutu · 25/02/2017 09:53

Quite. They go for votes instead. Far less fun but a smidge more important in a parliamentary bleedin democracy.

Elendon · 25/02/2017 10:14

I now see those rallies Corbyn holds on a line with POTUS post his election. It's all cognitive dissonance to those who still think he can turn it around by campaigns. It's bizarre.

blackistheneworange So funny and now I have that great song in my head.
