Mall Lobby to guarantee rights of residence of EU citizens.
It's on the 20th of February.

I am in Scotland and have no way of making it there (even though I have registered and I have mailed by MP, but have not heard back).

Any proxy attendees who fancy having out in Parliament for a while?
There might be canapés and fizz, who knows?! doubt it

I just want to spread the word about this event.

The more MNers/people attend or mail their MP, the more presence there is on the day, the more likely it is that there will be some clarification about what the status of EU citizens currently residing in the UK is likely to be.

The website says it ends at 6 - any idea if it's ok to turn up late?

I move to the UK in 1993 when various agency advertised very hard in my home country (Germany) to attract junior doctors to the UK as the was a scarcity of British-trained doctors. As it happened, there was an over supply of German junior doctors, I wanted to improve my English and I wanted to work abroad longer term, so it seemed like a good idea at the time.

Fast forward 24 years working for the NHS, 1 British husband, 4 DCs, a mortgage later, it now appears that I may have to spend time/money/nervous energy to apply for Permanent Leave to Remain.

At this stage in the evening , I think I am just going to bugger off back to where I came from if it comes to that

I am London-based but I'm supposed to be at work during those hours.

Is there a central resource for
a - contact details of MPs
b - what is the "right" thing to send to them regarding this issue?

If you started a thread with those you'd be able to ask all UK-based MNers to help, and they'd only need to have internet access and a spare 5 mins (which we all clearly do have!) rather than being London-based and able to go to a specific place on a Monday afternoon.

There is a very easy link allowing you to mail your MP, but only after you have registered.
There is a pre-loaded letter that one is encouraged to change according to what one wants to say.

The UK is still your home and there is no reason why Brexit should change that. You have been here long enough to be a citizen and you have a job in the NHS, which regularly recruits from much further away than the EU. I am sure loads of people will go to this event and it is important to remind the government that people care about this, but I don't think it will make any difference because it isn't in the government's interest to lose lots of key workers and split up families.

Do apply for British citizenship though, as Germany doesn't allow dual nationality except with other EU countries, but I am under the impression they are going to allow existing German-UK nationals to keep both. Plus once you are a citizen you will have full voting rights - you could have voted in the referendum if you had already become a citizen. I know it is a bit inconvenient and it has become more expensive than seems reasonable, but friends who have done it have actually gained a sense of emotional attachment to their new citizenship at the end of the process, especially when their kids already had a British passport but they didn't.
