I mean a sandwich bag of cereal with another little bag of sugar inside? Currently I'm scraping glued on cereal and sugar off the bottoms of bowls every day! Kids are 7, 10 and 14

Suchalovelyday, how would you store a chopped up strawberry in a bag of cereal for 5 days?

Somehow whenever anyone restricts anything on mm the "my neighbours children were never allowed chocolate and now they mug old ladies for twixes" story comes out. Just putting across an alternate view.
when I say I have no willpower I doam age not to mug old ladies :o

bobble, I was going to let them choose a box of cereal each for the week, then portion each box out into baggies of appropriate size for the child, then stuff the baggies back into the box so all they have to do is take one

Cool thanks Smile

I recommend Lakeland if you go down the personalised Tupperware route. They do all kinds of storage pots, special pens for labelling etc.

Or you could go IKEA and just take a Sharpie to them I suppose. But it wouldn't feel as lovely Wink

Cereals like Rice Krispies and all of that similar shite need sugar to cover how disgusting they are! Would they not eat granola sweetened with honey, or porridge or summat?! Or even better, a savoury breakfast like eggs. I read that kids are eating less of the old cornflakes etc for breakfast, and more things like eggs, and are healthier for it! No source, soz - can't remember where I saw it.

Sounds like a sensible way of controlling sugar.

As I kid I was quite partial to a Weetabix spread with butter with sugar on top.

When i was a child there was no other way to eat cereal other than with the top of the (full fat) milk and sugar. But then when I first started working in 1985 and for years afterwards it was ok to sit at your desk talking to customers whilst smoking a fag.

I cannot imagine sugar on cereal, any cereal....oh well perhaps half a teaspoon in porridge if there wasn't any golden syrup available.

Seems like a sensible idea to me OP.

Did someone really say that 7 is too young to get breakfast on their own? My DCs were getting their own cereal and milk at age 4 and 6.

I guess the problem is with your plan is that kiss need to learn to self regulate
Especially the 14 year old
Because when they become independent to you they'll go crazy
Like I did when I went to uni after never having junk food, put on 2 Stone in a year !

You could get this www.amazon.co.uk/Royal-Classic-Cafe-Sugar-Dispenser/dp/B00511PA12?tag=mumsnet&ascsubtag=mnforum-21

And get a felt tip draw a line where 3x dispenses of sugar take the overall sugar level to.

And threaten with certain death if the sugar should fall below that line by the time you get downstairs.

The Tupperware would be easier but this would be more fun....

They can, stealth, but they won't. They'd rather have no breakfast than put strawberries on their cereal

Sorry OP, but you and my own parents and me and every other person I know are failing your children's needs.
After some consideration i've ordered these. Go on, do the same it's never too late to change.
Marshmallow fluff on toast with Nutella is a personal favourite.
Calling SS on myself now.

P.s
buy sachets of sugar/ration said cereal/sugar each week and tell the children when it's gone it's gone and they might portion there breakfast bowls more sensibly.

7 isn't very little and isn't too young to get their own cereal, especially with older siblings.

My 9, 8 and 6 year old have been getting their own breakfast cereal for over a year. They use my measuring cups and spoons for cereal/sugar, they are allowed two cups of cereal and 1 teaspoon of sugar on weetabix/cornflakes. Mine know that if they go overboard and waste loads then they won't be allowed to get their own cereal, it usually works and they stick to the limits set. If they're still hungry they have some fruit if there's time before school.

Wheetabix with a big visable layer of white sugar on top, ooh I've not hadn't that for years. I might have it tomorrow, for nostalgic reasons. Blueberries just don't compare. Grin

If you think it'll help your children cut down then go for it OP. My DS tries to drown his shit in a box cereal with honey so I've had to buy the little honey portions from Costco and limit him to one per morning.

My little boy won't eat porridge or weetabix with out sugar or honey , I normally set out the cereal the night before already portioned in a bowl with the sugar allowance , he helps him self to yoghurt or milk .
Nolt wrong with a but of sugar as long as they are not eating it all day and brush their teeth after .

Erm my 8 month old happily demolishes a single Weetabox for breakfast (made with his warm formula) never mind an 8yr old!

I fairly regularly do porridge with a teaspoon of hot choc powder stirred in. Sometimes I even let the kids have some :o

Could you buy a big box of sugar sachets like you get in a cafe and put them in with the bags?
