I mean a sandwich bag of cereal with another little bag of sugar inside? Currently I'm scraping glued on cereal and sugar off the bottoms of bowls every day! Kids are 7, 10 and 14

I always think you have to put things in perspective! My kids have a good healthy diet and nice clean teach their weight is fine for their height age. They like a bit of sugar on their wetabix so they have it! That's it! I don't worry I don't analyse. I sprinkle a bit on, they eat it and if we're having a rare good morning where we aren't rushing round like maniacs I even wash up!

Honey is better than sugar as it's unrefined

Just like eating brown or white bread

Assumed that was common knowledge.

Maple syrup is one of the 'healthiest' sweeteners of you need to eat things sweetened.

Can't stand sugary or sweetened stuff myself.

I may make my children read this thread. They think I am the only person In The World that weighs cereal. They would eat it until the box was empty if I let them!

I might try this with Tupperware-type tubs rather than bags.

Hatemylifenow · 10/02/2017 16:55

Whenever I hear "unrefined sugar" I want to murder fearne fucking cotton and deliciously fucking Ella.

MapMyMum · 10/02/2017 17:04

😂 the cocaine comment just reminded me of Mrs Doyle in Father Ted offering round cake that 'has cocaine in it...'

MapMyMum · 10/02/2017 17:05

Difficultyear brown bread has no nutritionl benefit over white bread. You need to go for wholemeal/grain to get the goodness. Brown bread is just unbleached flour

motherinferior · 10/02/2017 17:07

In what way, precisely, is honey better? What does its lack of refinement confer, nutritionally, which makes it 'healthier'?

LolDeLol · 10/02/2017 17:07

Grin.

IToldYouIWasFreaky · 10/02/2017 17:08

Why is it better that honey is unrefined? Better how?

IToldYouIWasFreaky · 10/02/2017 17:08

Oh sorry Mother, you beat me to it! Carry on! Grin

motherinferior · 10/02/2017 17:09

This thread is making me want to go and eat a large bar of chocolate. Fairly traded chocolate anyway because that sort of thing bothers me more, frankly.

I have also made a loaf of organic WHITE BREAD - well it's that posh cream-coloured bread really, what with me being achingly middle-class and all - for supper.

motherinferior · 10/02/2017 17:12

And slung crisps on the supermarket order for next week because I will have teenagers infesting the house complaining that they are ABSOLUTELY STARVING and because I have no objection to the odd crisp.

IToldYouIWasFreaky · 10/02/2017 17:14

Do you add sugar to them though Mother?

motherinferior · 10/02/2017 17:16

Obviously, some cereals have a reduced sugar and salt content now - e.g. plain Weetabix or Shredded Wheat.

THE OP'S KIDS ARE GETTING PLAIN WEETABIX.

And I have been known to put sugar on strawberries or raspberries. White sugar. Sugar so refined my mother would have got on with it.

motherinferior · 10/02/2017 17:18

Oh, and I add glorious Demerara sugar when I bake bananas. I could bake them naked but no, I add lime juice and brown sugar. They are blissful.

OhSoggyBiscuit · 10/02/2017 17:18

This thread is legendary. Mad props to the OP for holding their own against the sugar trolls.

Alaia5 · 10/02/2017 17:19

Your bread sounds lovely motherinferior.
Meanwhile I'm fighting my way into Soho for sake with blackened cod.

OxfordMourning · 10/02/2017 17:21

There's the same amount of sugar in honey, maple syrup and refined white granulated. None of them are any better for you, neither will they kill you.

TollgateDebs · 10/02/2017 17:24

Nope, never! Fruit yes, sugar no. If the cereal already has it in, should be used as a sweet and not breakfast.

OxfordMourning · 10/02/2017 17:29

Cereal as a sweet Tollgate? Do you mean pudding or a sweet like Haribo?

Hatemylifenow · 10/02/2017 17:30

I love it when people don't rtft.

Thanks toll, no one on this very long thread has said that v

Shannaratiger · 10/02/2017 17:31

Sorry haven't read whole thread. Dd 13 has 4 Weetabix which she all eats. Definitely would bag up if it was getting wasted. BTW Dd has half teaspoon of sugar on her Weetabix.
