crazy stories from when you met in-laws' for 1st time (funny)

Just was wondering if anyone else had any funny stories from when they met in laws for first time or if I just have all the strange luck lol

So years ago when first went round to new boyfriends house (we were teens, he still lived with parents) for the first time he told me that his dad worked nights and that I needed to be quiet... Fair enough.
Bout an hour later I needed a drink and asked to get a glass of water, got to the kitchen found the glasses just as im about to take a sip their huge cat jumps on the counter making me shriek and smash the glass on the floor.
Next thing bf father runs down the stairs completely naked holding a golf club.
Well we all stand in silence me covering my eyes and bf dad going red and running back upstairs.

Does anyone else have any embarrassing in law stories?
Im poorly with horrible cold could do with a few laughs.

On meeting my now deceased mother in law, my DP of the time warned me that her cooking was somewhat eccentric and that I shouldn't feel embarrassed about not being able to eat what I was served.

Sat down to dinner and was served with a large, plain portabello mushroom and a whole leek. Both boiled. Nothing else.

The first time I went to the in-laws for Sunday lunch was memorable - though it wasn't quite the first time I had met them but it was the first time I had been to their home.

All the family were round the table and MIL-to-be was serving veg when she caught one of the wine glasses full of red wine and it started to tip. I shot out my hand to stop it but in doing so I knocked over my glass. The two glasses collided, both smashed and one end of the table and DH's younger brother were covered in red wine!!

As if that wasn't bad enough, later in the meal DH knocked over a glass of white wine and that went all over hos other brother.

Apparently after I had gone home they discovered the red wine had also splattered all over the wall so they had to redecorate.

Despite that we always got on very well.

I can't repeat mine it's too mortifying - let's just say she wasn't expecting to meet me in his room, we were in a "compromising" position and it's a good job she was a midwife

WE met at uni and went home to his for the weekend.
They were in bed when we got there. MIL had given up her room for me and gone into FIL room.
At 8 am she came into her room, pulled back the duvet and said I need to see if your one of those slags who sleep in make up!
We hated each other for the next 20 years!

She wasn't exactly my mil but I was with her son, my ex for 8 yrs. She cooked. I ate it. Excused myself to the bathroom then promptly threw up. It was nasty.

One of the first times I met my now mil, dh and I were telling her that we were expecting. We hadn't been together very long and yes it wasn't ideal. But she did the mn mil thing and threw her toys properly out of the pram. In fact she cried and stamped her foot like a toddler. Then my fil called me a gold digger!

I can see the funny side now.

I didn't have anything embarrassing happen when I met FIL for the first time, but DH embarrassed himself the first time he cooked a meal for my parents. He had met them before, but this was the first time he had to spend a whole evening with them.
He cooked beef stew with dumplings. Something he's usually pretty good at.
The dumplings were vile. I initially thought he'd overdone the salt, but it turned out the suet was really off. Poor man was mortified and kept apologizing. My parents took it in good grace but it was a long time before he offered to cook for my family again!

My MIL (who likes to think she's rather genteel) walked in the dining room, where I'd just set the table for dinner, took one look and reset it. Apparently I'd set the dessert spoons pointing the wrong way... My OH always reckons she thought I was worth the investment. The embarassing thing was I used to work as a silver service waitress, so really should have known better.

She lives abroad so we don't see her very often. The next time I saw her we went to visit her on her stud farm, one of the mares was being given an ultrasound and I've no idea why I spluttered out "oh I've just had one of those" (for PCOS investigations). She looked at me askance, obviously thinking it was some weird way of me telling her I was pregnant with her grandchild (I wasn't!) and told me I had good child bearing hips. We don't have the closest of relationships!

I was staying with DP (now DH) at his house while his parents were away for the weekend. DP and his brother had no idea what time they would be coming back. Brother cooked a nice fry up for lunch. Future ILs came home soon after and started ranting about coming home to cooking smells while my poor DP was trying to introduce me and they were going, "Yes, yes, hello, Baggy, nice to meet you, now (to DP and his B) it's very inconsiderate of you to cook food just before we come home..."

Fast forward a couple of years; we got engaged on a weekend away. Got back to his place late. DP was very excited to tell his parents, who were in bed reading, ran upstairs, came down a few minutes later looking very abashed...I found out later (a lot later) that MIL had told him she'd wished he'd given it a bit longer before asking me and FIL said he'd have liked him to play the field a bit more.

I felt so loved.

The first time I met my in laws the dog jumped up on sofa and started shagging my arm. I was trying to shake it off discreetly when MIL starts shouting at it to get down. Then she shouted FIL to "come get the bloody dog, it's getting fruity with Debs arm".

I have another...
When my dh was working near my parents house and was desperate for the toilet, luckily he had their spare house key, he thought my parents were out as the car wasn't there and ran up the stairs and walked in on my mum in the bath
They can laugh about it now but he always shouts when he lets himself in.

Walked into the house to meet a boyfriends family when we were teenagers to be greeted by his DM scream singing Queens 'don't stop me now' barrelling through the house on a tricycle. Her panicked face remains one of the funniest things I've ever seen. (She was trying to teach his much younger brother how to use it).

My (now ex)mil and I first met in his shared house after his graduation. I was visiting for a week, they had dressed up posh for the event and so she wasn't exactly comfy. She walked in to the room, said "i'm sorry I have to get out of this skirt!" dropped it, walked over in tights and petticoat and said "nice to meet you. Sorry for the striptease!"

First night I slept over my boyfriends house when I was 19 (been together a month but hadn't yet met his parents) I came downstairs for a cuppa and his mum was sat in this kitchen (she didn't live with him but it was her old house). She asked who I was and I introduced myself. She replied "best do you as well then", I was very confused until it transpired that boyfriends toddler niece had nits and as bf had babysat her the previous day and had gorgeous long hair, his mum had come round to check him and put nit solution on his hair. She did mine as well lovely lady, god rest her soul.

Not me...but my friends mil,loves to surprise with her yummy food...my freind ate the whole lot before asking what it was ....she assumed chicken....no it was squirrel...

First time dd met my very conservative in-laws (age 4) she was being a bit of a show off. I told her to stop being silly and she replied with "Why don't you just call me a twat?"

MIL's jaw dropped, FIL nearly choked on his drink and I, extremely red-faced, did my very best to explain she meant 'twit' (what my dad used to call her when she was being silly) and that I had never called her a twat. Future DH was no help at all and ran off to piss himself laughing.

She's 19 now but i still want the ground to swallow me up every time I think about it.

The first time I met my PIL, MIL picked a fight with FIL and tried to force me to give an opinion on the argument. Not as bonkers as some of these but it was bloody uncomfortable!

Not as uncomfortable, mind you, as a few months later when she told me DH's birth story (he was a massive baby - 12lbs!). She announced, "I couldn't sit for weeks - ripped front to back, I was!" and then turned back to the television while I was like and trying not to picture her fanny looking like someone had dropped a lasagne

I had to move into my DPs parents for a while (he was still living with them) so my DM and DSF drove me round there with all my stuff.

I knocked on DPs front door and I thought it was odd that no one was answering as I'd just phoned him to say I was almost there.

I heard a bit of commotion going on behind the front door and finally his mum answered. DP was stuck in the downstairs loo, the lock had jammed.

My stepfather, a former carpenter, had to rescue him! And the first thing he ever said to my parents? 'I'm glad I hadn't just been for a poo' I don't think my family will ever let him live that one down!

Not strictly the 1st time I met MIL, it was about the 3rd time. We (Me, DH, FIL, MIL) we're going out for dinner and drove past a bar that DH and I had been in during one of our dates and he mentioned out loud that I'd sat on his knee for most of the evening.

MIL leaned forward from the back seat and said "Slag" and gave me the most withering, hateful look!

We get on OK now, but things were horrid for years because she thought I stole her baby, but really she drove him away!

great thread! First time I met MIL I dressed up a bit as going out for a meal as I came in she said "hello" closely followed by "you look like a witch" I just stared motified....now I am old I would have said "better than being one". The next time we met we travelled some way to stay for the weekend, they had invitd someone more suitable to stay and spent the weekend gushing about how marvellous she was in everyway!! She has not mellowed but I have toughened up
