I like the Churchill one, "if you are going through hell, keep going".
I also quite like " God helps those who help themselves", not sure why and I'm not particularly religious.

This is great, thanks. I'm compiling a book of quotes for a relatives birthday so have pinched a few of these.

Very cliched, but: 'don't wait for your ship to come in, swim out to it.'

'If that's the worst thing that ever happens to you, count yourself lucky.' (My late grandma, if we complained about trivial things!)

'happiness is found when you stop comparing yourself to other people.'

'Stars can't shine without darkness.'

'I'm too busy working on my own grass to notice if yours is greener.'

Conquer all mysteries by rule and line"

This is my absolute favourite thread ever, I love it and so many of these are worth holding on to! Brilliant!

Here is on from my dad:
'you have a brain, use it, and fuck everyone else!'

He wanted to believe in myself, it really stayed with me because he shouted it and he meant it!

Patsy99 · 05/02/2017 20:22

And another:-

"A sentimentalist is one who desires to have the luxury of emotion without paying the price".

There's a lot of this about I think.

IckyPop · 05/02/2017 20:25

We’re all a little weird. And life is a little weird. And when we find someone whose weirdness is compatible with ours, we join up with them and fall into mutually satisfying weirdness—and call it love—true love.

'The woods are lovely, dark and deep,
But I have promises to keep,
and miles to go before I sleep, and miles to go before I sleep.'

'Love is not true love that alters when alteration finds'

Probably inaccurately-quoted but I use these versions all the time...

I collect quotes and have many written down, this thread has added to my collection, so thank you for that.

Let your boat of life be light, packed with only what you need - a homely home and simple pleasures, one or two friends, worth the name, someone to love and someone to love you, a cat, a dog, and a pipe or two, enough to eat and enough to wear, and a little more than enough to drink; for thirst is a dangerous thing.

Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
The courage to change those things I can,
And the wisdom to know the difference.

Use it all the time to try and calm myself if I'm panicking.
