SWP puts me off to. Women's march was all the more marvellous because the only SWP dicks there were giving out their idiotic anti semitic newspaper. Plus they will want to provoke violence if they aren't in the pay of the authorities to do so. And Trump protests are 'safe' whereas pro EU ones aren't although Trump is going to be our new boss.Hmm
Just my thoughts,Bigly.

The shooting in France has just been on the BBC news - guy attempted to run amok with a machete, and was shot by a policeman. Machete man is seriously wounded, one of the security guards at the Louvre has a head wound (not reported as life threatening).

amispartacus · 03/02/2017 13:08

Trump uses Paris attack to justify actions

Said NOTHING about Quebec attack last week.

I have no doubt the timing is not coincedental

FFS I hate this about the Left, as far as I'm concerned, stopping Trump and fascism is much more important than bloody in fighting. Angry

amispartacus · 03/02/2017 13:10

And there will be the usual 'this action justifies my behaviour' from people.

And I guess that list of 7 countries might grow if it does turn out to be someone from a different Islamic country.

What happens if it turns out the guy is French?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 03/02/2017 13:14

I remember the SWP being there at my very first protest - anti poll tax. I was fascinated and horrified in equal measures.

There are always people you don't agree with at demos, just make sure you don't accidentally use one of their placards.

M0stlyHet · 03/02/2017 13:14

Re. lefty infighting - it is quite right to be concerned about this. I despaired of the Labour party, post referendum, when the Tory party was leaderless. They could have decided to go for the jugular and try to shape national policy in the months that followed. Instead they decided to tear the party apart with an entirely unforced leadership crisis of its own.

I think the only thing we can do is to try to combat it as much as possible as individuals - I'm no Corbynite, but I've actually joined the Labour party since, because rather than jump ship in protest, I think it's important to ensure that a broad range of left-wing voices continue to be heard.

amispartacus · 03/02/2017 13:14

I hate this - there are people who are dangerous and who use violence to make a point. People on all sides. People who listen to the words of powerful people, influential people and then take those words to heart.

And then act on them - it's then used to justify discrimination and to crack down on people.

It also leads to hate and mistrust of people who are different.

I really fucking hate it.

I have the news on in the background and saw the Paris attack. Thankful he only had a machete.

But it gets you wondering, I can't believe I'm saying this, it plays into Trumps hands, so if you can read the subtext...

Look the Muslims are at it again, been watching too much GoT to think such an attack would be even remotely successful.

Hope the guy injured recovers soon.

We had German raids yesterday too, not sure if he utilised that for his rhetoric.

The more he pisses the extremists off, it doesn't have to be on US soil, merely a Western country.

Dear Extremists,

Stop feeding the fluffy haired troll. We don't like what he's saying either!

Yours sincerely

Western People

OhYouBadBadKitten · 03/02/2017 13:17

Thank goodness for the security guards at the Louvre, paid trained people who saved the lives of others. Bloody horrible incident :(

SingingInTheRainstorm · 03/02/2017 13:18

Did anyone watch the documentary on the British kid that tried to assassinate Trump? He was obviously fueled by someone or some group. Add in some mental health issues you have a guy that thinks he can not only succeed but get away with it. Scary.

Now he's on suicide watch as he's depressed that Trump got in. All really quite strange if you watch footage of him. His Mum looks like she's from the 80's. Not to be nasty.

MrDacresEUSubsidy · 03/02/2017 13:23

SWP were at the protest I attended on Monday. I am about as far removed from the SWP as it's possible to be, without being fascist!! They won't stop me going to a protest. When a very gobby man who was busy trying to flog copies of the SW paper told me why I SHOULD buy it, I politely pointed out to him that this was an anti-Trump protest and that he should not assume the right to try and take it over to push forward his agenda. I think he was a bit taken aback that not everyone would agree with him - because the people around me supported my stance!

Likewise the person who was waving the Palestinian flag - I wasn't there to protest about Israel/Palestine and I was polite but firm when I told them this. I have also emailed the protest organisers to tell them that they may want to consider this when organising further demonstrations, as it runs the risk of putting off people who would otherwise join your march.

WhenLoveAndCakeCollide · 03/02/2017 13:23

The only Bowling Green massacre I'm aware of is this one, which was a college football game between Bowling Green State University (Ohio) and The Ohio State University, in September last year.

I see Trump is now repeating what other Repugnicans have already insinuated, which is protesters are being paid. Having attended the women's march in Chicago, and the protest at O'Hare airport, I would like to know who's got my check?

Appreciating money is one thing. It's pretty well hand in hand with a monopoly on belief though. (If what I believe is the only truth, everyone who doesn't hold to it must have an ulterior motive. Love of money is easy to sell.)

GingerIvy · 03/02/2017 13:29

Would it be too much in poor taste to hope the perpetrator in France is American and a Trump fan, trying to stir up trouble, and is caught and expose?

I find it much too convenient that each person is immediately pegged as shouting the same phrase each time. Hmm
