Just seen the Arnold schwarzenegger clip, I have a new found respect sort of for him.

TheClaws · 02/02/2017 22:58

Zebra I'd prefer to blow up an orange balloon. You could draw a face on it - even put a little wig on top - and make it say whatever you want. I don't think anyone would notice the difference TBF. It's just full of air. You don't even need to feed it (ego, that is)!

Ami thanks for the beautiful, beautiful new thread. It has brought me up to date. Unfortunately I find I'm unable to bother with any other MN threads ATM. They seem a bit pointless. But then I'm a little bit obsessed and I need to put my iPad down Sad

Who's the woman in green? She needs to do some serious reading/educating herself. She seems extremely uninformed. Confused

GingerIvy · 02/02/2017 23:15

Not sure. She does seem rather ill informed.

Chippednailvarnishing · 02/02/2017 23:16

I'm quite deaf, lipreading the lady in green is hard work.

The discrimination towards muslims, or apparent muslims, entering the US has been rife for years.

I have a friend who is UK born & bred, but her first name is, apparently, a muslim name. She had no idea, but she travels regularly to the US with her DH, as he has business over there. Every Single Time she was singled out for a 'random' search and held and questioned for up to 10 hours each time. Her DH took to going through booking flights and going through immigration separately because he couldn't afford to miss the business meetings. Each time she was 'allowed to go on her way' she would be reunited with her luggage to find that it had been gone through with a fine tooth comb, and all of her toiletries would have been squeezed out and destroyed. Eventually one of the airline staff disclosed that she was on a watch list due to her 'Arabic' first name. I don't want to out her, but trust me, this is a name everyone will have heard of, and there are well known English TV presenters with the same name. They had to hire a US lawyer to make contact with the relevant US Department (Homeland Security??) to go through enhanced vetting and get removed from the watch list.

I have another friend who is also born & bred in the UK, but whose Dad was originally from the Yemen, so not only does he have a Yemeni surname (although UK passport), but he is also swarthy skinned. They brought their kids to Disneyland and he was held for over 12 hours. As a family they vowed years ago that they would never, ever again visit the US.

cozietoesie · 02/02/2017 23:18

Interesting article in the Guardian about Brave New World v. 1984 - apparently, Obama (remember him?) spoke about it also. I must re-read both.

If I have the time.

SanFranBear · 02/02/2017 23:21

George W Bush post 9/11

The article says it all really - the man who was roundly considered one of the worst presidents in living memory gave a speech promoting tolerance and religious freedom. I don't think he could've said anything different at that time but I honestly cannot imagine the Emperor reiterating that the vast majority of Muslims are peace loving and just like us.

Didn't someone with a fair experience say that he was 'not fit to serve'?

That is part of what disquiets me. He truly does not see his position as 'service'.
