Many, many people took recreational drugs in the 90s. Where are they now?

I'm not a drug addict and none of my friends were at the time, we just took Es at the weekend, sometimes other drugs. We all went to work or college, seemed like everyone else did this too. We had a great time, weekends were for dancing and hugging, I didn't get on with drunk people and one night stands and it suited me much better.
I moved away from where I grew up, nice area to another nice area.
When I mention partying in my youth to other mums where I live now, they look at me as if I'm an addict who needs help Confused.
Are they all pretending? There were thousands of us doing this so where are they now? And why do people who never took drugs appear to feel so morally superior? One of the women where I live openly talks about cheating the system financially yet looks at me like I'm scum because I went out and had fun 20 years ago. (And probably once a year now!) I feel that because I mentioned this one evening in a pub I have alienated myself from the local mums.

Wow Cote how embarrassing for you. 😂 You are quoting a completely different quote to the one I was referring to

Here it is, your quote copy and pasted.

You lot are making me consider leaving a will in favor of whoever can prove he's a drug dealer
I've known a few and they were far better company than you pearlclutching killjoys

😂😂😂😂😂
No need for me to rewrite history was there! Lol

bummymummy77 · 07/02/2017 12:23

I'm glad you see this as a game Cote. Many of us have suffered loss and are still suffering and don't. To make light of that and turn it in to a fun little morning's bickering and point scoring is shocking.

At no point when people have pointed out that you've really hurt their feelings have you said anything like "well that's my opinion but I'm sorry if I hurt your feelings" as even most of the more obnoxious mumsnet posters would.

I'm just Shock at your callousness and lack of empathy and how you seem to be enjoying winding people up about the death of loved ones.

Klaphat · 07/02/2017 14:23

Shame on you, Cote. Why won't you see that vomiting emotive statements all over the thread trumps your rational objections to dubious claims? You've been very naughty, go sit in the corner!

CoteDAzur · 07/02/2017 14:49

Twitters, "you lot" wasn't aimed at you so I quoted the post that actually was. But anyway, I'm glad that you are having so much fun Smile

Fabsmum · 07/02/2017 15:00

"stalwarts of their local NCT who think that having any drugs during childbirth is positively immoral."

Probably 'have been known to be of the opinion that taking opioids in labour can affect your baby' the stuck up natural birth facistas

I never took E. and feel a bit hard done by now. Did take acid a few times and smoke my way through colossal amounts of weed, took speed almost every weekend for about a year. I mixed with a crowd who used heroin too. Lost 3 drug-using friends to suicide/overdoses.

I'm a very boring, long married professional woman now.

I'd still like to take E though. Might save it for my 60th birthday.

CoteDAzur · 07/02/2017 15:03

bummy - I'm not winding you up and I actually said (at 10:23) that I'm not saying that you're lying. You are having a foul-mouthed tantrum all by yourself because you know some people who died and seem to think that means you must be believed whatever you say.

You are acting like this is your grief thread which I have rudely crashed in a flippant manner about fun. It is not. This is a lighthearted thread about fun days many years in the past, where you chose to post some personal stories and went berserk when I said they don't make sense.

I have the right to not believe your stories. The rational thing would be to either answer if you can or just say "Whatever". Not to have a 12-hour tantrum about how dare some stranger think it doesn't make sense Hmm

Unless you have some more insults for MNHQ to delete, I consider this exchange closed. Have a nice (calm) day.

Headofthehive55 · 07/02/2017 15:06

I'm afraid just one tablet can have harmful consequences, you are incorrect in your assumption cote.
Even if you have taken the same drug previously, your body can react differently, and even within the same parts of a batch some tablets can be contaminated.
Different people react differently too, so if your friend is ok, there is no certain way of knowing if you will be too.

Strongmummy · 07/02/2017 15:27

Head of hives, thing is Cote is queen of drugs. She knows all the drugs. All of them. She knows the best dealers. The best. You can't argue with that. She also used to shop at Cyber dog which makes her really hard core. Yes, totally hard core. The rest of us who used to use, have had different experiences, think talking about drugs is a total yawn fest coz we've moved on and realise that, yes it was fun, but we were a bit daft in our youth, have always though that wearing neon was shit, our opinions don't count. That's because she's the best. The BEST!! This is her thread, about her knowledge and her experiences on drugs. The sooner all of MN realises this the better. ALL OF MN. This thread is classic.

perhapsiwill · 07/02/2017 15:34

Everyone would get along a whole lot better if they all took an E. SmileSmile

I'd rather eat my own hair perhaps I will then do that again. There's something called having too much of a good thing and fucking with your brain cells

Twittery · 07/02/2017 16:05

Cote
Twitters, "you lot" wasn't aimed at you so I quoted the post that actually was. But anyway, I'm glad that you are having so much fun

It was clearly aimed at me and all the other 'pearl clutchers and 'killjoys' on this thread. Are you now trying to pretend it wasn't or are you just confused.

Your post from yesterday at 3:08 talking about pearl clutchers, cocaine and abortion clearly wasn't aimed at me. I wasn't the person you quoted in your post and I hadn't even posted anything on the thread or several days before that post Confused Try r reading the thread carefully before saying things that are untrue as it makes you look foolish.

CoteDAzur · 07/02/2017 16:54

perhaps Grin

CoteDAzur · 07/02/2017 16:59

Strong - I haven't touched any drugs for over a decade and I never claimed I tried them all. Feel free to continue ranting about me, though Hmm

Or possibly, don't.

What is it about a few people talking about a bit of fun they had years ago that makes you want to piss all over it?

CoteDAzur · 07/02/2017 17:08

Head - "even within the same parts of a batch some tablets can be contaminated"

Some, possibly. Although no group of people has ever died from some contaminated Es AFAIK. But one? It is always one isolated incident that is branded "contaminated deadly pill".

All I said that I don't see how one pill (whether Es, paracetamols or whatever) can possibly be contaminated, since they are all made in batches of thousands.

More likely, people take many different things over a long night and this gets told to others (police, parents, etc) as "Just took 1 and collapsed).

thenewaveragebear1983 · 07/02/2017 17:10

There's a quote on a different thread about inspirational quotes that goes 'if you repeatedly open your mind, your brain falls out' or something like that. Very apt.
My druggy days were some of the best days of my life, but were also some of the darkest, particularly towards the end. I agree with the pp who said I'd rather eat my hair than do an E again, never mind the rest.

Greta84 · 07/02/2017 17:15

Cote give up

californiansunrise · 07/02/2017 17:19

The vast, vast majority of people who have died after taking pills/MDMA can be attributed to other factors - they have other drugs in their system being the most common or tragic things like Leah Betts who drank too much water.

Dying from MDMA alone is practically unheard of.

Dulcimena · 07/02/2017 17:20

The rest of us who used to use, have had different experiences, think talking about drugs is a total yawn fest coz we've moved on

But you haven't really moved on, you've been posting on this thread for pages. If it's of no interest to you and a total yawn fest, why are you still giving it so much of your energy?

Nothing wrong with a bit of nostalgia for those who want it. If you don't then that's fine, move along, nothing to see here. We're all grownups.

OhtoblazeswithElvira · 07/02/2017 17:21

Do illegal drugs cause long-term lack of social awareness? Grin

pineapplesplit · 07/02/2017 17:27

Just because it was dark does not mean there was no positive.
Its not black and white.
I agree with the pp who said it was some of the darkest times and some of the happiest.
I often talk about my drug taking years with affection and humour even though i lost friends and even though i almost died myself.
Theres nothing wrong with being honest about your experiences. I know how serious drug addiction can be but i also know how fun and rewarding some casual drug experiences can be for people.
Just as with alcohol some people have no problems and just have fun but there is also a very serious dark side for some individuals.
I certainly dont think that means you have to pretend everyone always has a dark time and its always serious.

ageingrunner · 07/02/2017 17:31

People take drugs because it's enjoyable, that's the truth. They wouldn't bother otherwise.

Strongmummy · 07/02/2017 17:34

Dulcimena, u know what? I just like a good row to be honest. I hope you've enjoyed reading.

Dulcimena · 07/02/2017 17:42

Strong - lol - fair enough! Grin

I've only dipped in and out. It can be an emotive subject, clearly, but I don't think it was ever intended or expected to cause the kind of offence that some posters have taken. It's been an interesting thread to watch really.

As you were :)

Strongmummy · 07/02/2017 17:46

Ha ha Dulcimena and It just keeps going. I am actually going to duck out now coz you are right, I have spent far too much time on it. Smile

Headofthehive55 · 07/02/2017 17:47

cote , there are all sorts of reasons why one pill might be contaminated. Try watching the batch bake on gbbo to see how perfectly they all turn out!
