To think Jehovah's Witnesses can become a bit of an annoyance

There are two ladies that often come round our estate. There are many others that also come, but this particular couple are the ones who seem to call the most.
As I'm a SAHM I'm usually at home when they call. I would never be deliberately rude to them, but I'm getting a bit annoyed by them continually coming to my house. They know I've recently had a baby as the first time they came I was pregnant. They even turned up the day I went into labour and DH answered the door to them!

Last time I saw them they were hinting at coming inside to meet the baby. How on earth do I politely tell them I'm not interested? Some of the others who have been don't seem to take no for an answer!

I have two of them who seem to come knocking every few weeks. They came twice on the same day last time. I've told them politely and non politely that I am not and never will be interested.

It really bugs me. I don't like being rude to people but I'm sick of being hassled when I'm trying to mind my own business. When I'm out and about I'm stopped by every fucker with a clipboard or leaflet within a mile radius. I do not want to deal with that at home too.

All religions are basically about control and power structures. All religions are inherently misogynistic and all seek to collect money from their followers. Because of the power structure most religions have been guilty of abuse over women and children's bodies and choices.

There.

Our lovely cleaner is a JW. We rarely get JW callers at the door, but if we do I just tell them my friend is one, she gives us all the brochures and info. and they go away withiut a struggke. Actually she doesn't; when she started with us she told me straight away that she was a JW but would not bother us. However we still tease each other about our pagan Christmas festivities and her non-birthdays. Before she converted to being a JW she was a Sikh and she often brings us wonderful dhals and curries.

Rupeomatic · 02/02/2017 12:58

I know you have to be a bit simple to be devoutly religious but surely you have to be even more simple to think that's a good idea

Now thats quite a statement.

The last bit, about a life of male dominated subservience I completely agree with though.

Well, that's fine then. We can't possibly hold them to account for that, could we? Or are you allowing us to do that?

GinIsIn · 02/02/2017 13:02

formerpigwrestler Don't google -it's every bit as bad as it sounds. And it's done to 8 day old newborns. Without anaesthetic.

Now we've established that all religions get some stick on MN, and that I've provided some evidence of that, Ouriana, what's your point? Because you acknowledge that the JW have some pretty shitty beliefs.

Cockcidalmaniac Im happy to concede Im wrong if other religions are getting bashed on here as well, I hate religion so usually stay away from threads like that!

So; if you stay away from religious threads, how on earth can you argue that other religions don't get criticised on here?

How ignorant and scary. I'm guessing you are a trump supporterror.

Nope I'm really not, and isnt it the fault of mainstream religions that the republican party is such a nightmare

The ones that I have visiting rarely come as I live out in the sticks. Always very pleasant to me and my family but it does annoy me how they try to get you to join a religion that you just don't want.

I did get quite annoyed when they were handing me their 'watchtower' newsletter thing and asked me what I thought was gods name. My reply was that he had many names such as Allah, he then 'corrected' me and told me no it was Jehovah.

I respect people's faith but don't go preaching your beliefs to others, let them make up their own minds.

If they are hinting to see the baby let it fly over your head until they directly ask then just make an excuse that you need to be somewhere or doing something of vital importance.

SoFeckingCross · 02/02/2017 13:20

Could be worse; where I live we not only have a large Kingdom Hall we also have a Mormon Temple............

Get one lot come round, the others will be out the following week.

I can honestly say hand on heart I would be equally rude to any fool who thinks they have the right to disturb me in my own home and tell me that my life choices are wrong; as a mixed race/religion/culture relationship we get enough judgment as it is(-mainly from his family. . . )

LucklessMonster · 02/02/2017 13:26

It is interesting that some religions/cults are generally seen as friendly and harmless and others are seen as sinister. For example, I bet a thread about Hare Krishnas would have gone the other way even though they hold very similar views to women as JWs.

I'm not defending.JWs - I think they're all as dangerous as each other.

Alconleigh · 02/02/2017 13:29

It's a bit obtuse to claim this thread is religious intolerance, when it's quite clearly intolerance of the arrogant position that it's ok to bother people in their homes. If any other religions did that, they'd be criticised for it as well. I feel the same way about any random who bothers me at home; it's my nest, my cocoon, bugger off!!

I've noticed them a lot more in central London at the little stands recently. Which I have no problem with, as they're not, you know, trying to convert me in my home.......

God, I haven't seen them for years. They only ever seem to pop up in 70s films about airports.

Lweji · 02/02/2017 13:47

I saw Hare Krishnas in London recently.

AliceThrewTheFookingGlass · 02/02/2017 13:52

I just find it distasteful when its a thread solely focused on one religion

How many people from other religions come knocking on your front door trying to covert you? If I was to have Muslims knocking on my door preaching about Allah and trying recruit me. I would be just as annoyed.

By contrast there is a little church round the corner and once or twice a year when they have some sort of special exhibit on a bloke will knock on the door with a leaflet and say 'you're more than welcome to come' with a smile before walking away. I'm okay with that. There's no preaching, pressure or a barrage of questions about my beliefs/lack of beliefs, just a friendly invite that I am able to accept or decline without being guilted.

DanGleballs · 02/02/2017 13:53

Maybe a bit drastic but...

toogoodtobetruex · 02/02/2017 13:59

To people saying get a sign that says no cold callers or whatever, I wish it worked for us. DH's elderly grandfather has one of these signs and still gets JW's knocking on his door regularly. He just doesn't answer now but yeah, the signs don't always seem to work?

TheDayIBroke · 02/02/2017 14:09

They used to have subliminal images in their literature, and not very Christian ones at that.
