There are two ladies that often come round our estate. There are many others that also come, but this particular couple are the ones who seem to call the most.
As I'm a SAHM I'm usually at home when they call. I would never be deliberately rude to them, but I'm getting a bit annoyed by them continually coming to my house. They know I've recently had a baby as the first time they came I was pregnant. They even turned up the day I went into labour and DH answered the door to them!

Last time I saw them they were hinting at coming inside to meet the baby. How on earth do I politely tell them I'm not interested? Some of the others who have been don't seem to take no for an answer!

Most religions are pretty vile, Jews chop bits off babies, extremist muslims commit the most horrific atrocities and christians follow the bible, which recommends sacficing those who wear mixed fibres (Leviticus).

Apart from this daft 'whataboutery' on display here, I've been on threads discussing exactly that.

Islamic people do not make a nuisance of themselves by accosting people at their house door. Read the OP again.

Personally I've never had anyone from any other religion or cult persistently knock my door & try to convert me to their beliefs. No matter how many times I tell them I'm not interested. I know lots of JW who have been brought up in the cult/religion. The only people I know that have joined in later life have been extremely vulnerable.

It isnt whataboutery its a valid point that on mumsnet JWs are fair game whereas other religions are treated with respect.

We've had threads discussing circumcision, we've had threads discussing Islam. MistressMia was an apostate from Islam, IIRC. I used to enjoy those threads, and i used to like reading her stuff.

I read and laughed a lot at that bun fight and it was religion in general. Its the singling out one religion I dislike.

No? When someone is preaching at volume 10 it's hard to not hear it.

If I want to become religious I'll find my own info, thank you. Trying to recruit/convert me by turning up on my doorstep or shouting about how Jesus died for me I didn't fucking ask him whilst I'm trying to do my banking or a spot of shopping is going to do the absolutely opposite. I don't want to hear it. I was forced to go to church as a kid and as a result I cannot stand having it forced on me in any way. It's rude. And you can say what you like, but they look down on us 'poor' people because we haven't found their faith. As if somehow they are better because they believe.

Plus if you feel the need to force it on people then is it really something that will enrich their lives? No. Things worth finding will be found. And what is worth finding is personal to everyone, so let people find their own beliefs.

I used to work with a lovely lady that was a JW. She'd joined up at 16 when she met her DH, and she would often explain their religion and beliefs without trying to sign you up but her deference to her DH and the fact her 4 uber intelligent DDs were all taken out of education at 14 to "spread the word" broke my heart. She wasn't allowed to vote, had to ask her DHs permission for everything and even her part time job (that incidentally fed them all as DH was a useless arse) was on his terms. It particularly upset me that her DDs are all bright intelligent young women with huge futures but their only goal in life is marriage to another JW and a life of subservience. I've always thought it a horribly male dominated religion myself.

And I've just found this thread about Islam, after about 5 seconds of searching. There's plenty more.

Every time there's a terrorost attack, we get loads of threads about Islam. The circumcision one is even back doing the rounds here at the moment. Stop the special pleading.
